Reid's departure after 14 years in the job had been widely expected and was confirmed by Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie in a posting on their official website.
The Eagles won 140 games and six NFC East titles under Reid, went the NFC title game on five occasions and lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX.
"Andy Reid won the most games of any head coach in Eagles history and he is someone I respect greatly and will remain friends with for many years to come," said Lurie.
"But, it is time for the Eagles to move in a new direction. Coach Reid leaves us with a winning tradition that we can build upon. And we are very excited about the future."
Reid was due to make $6 million in 2013 in the final year of his contract.
