Rafael Nadal says he will not follow in Roger Federer's footsteps and miss major tournaments to maintain his fitness.
Nadal is aiming to play a full schedule despite his rival Federer sitting out the whole clay court season for the second year in a row.
Federer's decision led to him winning Wimbledon last year before victory at the Australian Open this year.
But Nadal said: "There are tournaments that I can't imagine missing on purpose.
"I don't see myself missing Monte Carlo on purpose. I don't see myself missing Wimbledon on purpose, or the U.S. Open, or Australian, or Rome."
Nadal must win the Monte Carlo Masters this week to avoid Federer taking his place as world number one.
The 31-year-old Spaniard, who recently returned from a hip injury which ended his Australian Open, accepts this may change as he gets older.
"I can't say 'never' because I cannot predict what's going to be in the future."
The Spaniard went three years without a Grand Slam before beating Stanislas Wawrinka in the 2017 French Open final.
He went on to win his 16th Grand Slam title at the US Open by beating South African Kevin Anderson in straight sets.
Nadal is chasing an 11th title at both Monte Carlo, Barcelona, and Roland Garros, which begins on May 27.
