The Milwaukee Brewers suffered their first defeat on the road this season as an Andrew McCutchen-inspired Pittsburgh Pirates claimed a crushing 11-2 victory.
Last year's National League MVP McCutchen thumped his first home run of this season and drove in three runs, while Pedro Alvarez also contributed a three-run shot in an eighth inning where Pittsburgh ran riot.
Gaby Sanchez also homered in a six-run inning that ended any hope the Brewers had of launching a fightback.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were grateful for Hyun-Jin Ryu's efforts as they edged to a 2-1 win over the San Francisco Giants.
Ryu stretched his scoreless streak on the road to 26 matches with seven strong frames, while Tim Federowicz and Adrian Gonzalez drove in runs to seal victory for the Dodgers.
The Minnesota Twins did the double over the Toronto Blue Jays, comfortably winning the first game 7-0 before hitting back from a 5-1 deficit later on to seal a 9-5 success.
Brian Roberts, Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann and Yangervis Solarte each drove in two runs as the New York Yankees cruised to a 10-2 triumph over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Ian Kinsler proved the difference with a homer and driving in four runs in the Detroit Tigers' 7-5 win over the Cleveland Indians, who slipped up despite Michael Brantley's home run and four RBIs.
Ben Revere's RBI single in the eighth inning gave the Philadelphia Phillies a 1-0 win over the Atlanta Braves and David Ross' two-run RBI double led the Boston Red Sox to a 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.
Matt Adams drove in three runs and Matt Holliday two as the St Louis Cardinals hammered the Washington Nationals 8-0, while Kevin Kouzmanoff doubled twice and scored two runs in the Texas Rangers' 8-6 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
Wilin Rosario's tie-breaking groundout in a three-run seventh inning proved crucial in the Colorado Rockies 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres and the Kansas City Royals eased past Houston 5-1 to earn a three-game sweep over the Astros.
