Tony Parker led the way with 21 points - including a jump shot with 5.2 seconds left to seal the win - as the Spurs moved one-up on the defending champion.
Tim Duncan also weighed in with 20 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks, while Manu Ginobili scored 13 points as the Spurs rallied from 72-69 down in the fourth quarter.
However the Spurs also had Kawhi Leonard to thank for the win after he shackled Heat danger man LeBron James.
James did pick up his 10th career play-off triple-double - with 18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists - although made just seven of 16 shots.
Dwyane Wade also scored 17 for the Heat but it wasn't enough to avoid defeat.
