Ashley Young adidas player insights

What makes a great player?

Every individual is different whether it is a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder or forward. Me being a winger pace, trickery, scoring and creating that is how I would put it.

When did you realise you could become a top player?

I am still realising I am a good player. As a kid I have always wanted to play in the Premiership and represent my country and luckily for me I have had the opportunity to do a few of them things and hopefully things can get better so that I can achieve more.

You obviously had ability but how important was training?

Training is very important - if you don't train you don't learn. Even now playing in the Premiership training is very important so if you are not there training you are not going to learn.

Who was your inspiration growing up?

Ian Wright was my inspiration. When I was young I was an Arsenal fan; I was a forward back then and it was definitely him.

What was the best piece of advice you received?

Keep my feet on the ground and keep working hard in training and enjoy the game.

Can you give one top tip for any aspiring player?

Always enjoy the game, keep trying and keep learning.
