Arsene Wenger Bolton v Arsenal

Wenger's transfer policy is showing signs of creaking

Arsenal FanZoner Ali May thinks it's time Arsenal owned up about how much really sits in their transfer piggy bank, and that they should either spend it or give it back to the fans.

Well my fellow Gooners it has been a rollercoaster of emotions since the season opener. And that's a bit of an understatement!

If you watched my opening day performance on FanZone you will have seen us get off to a great start. A home win over newly-promoted West Brom and three points on the board.

Not only did Sami Nasri get off to a flyer but you will also have seen my 1987 home shirt stretched over my body for its TV debut. Cue much ridicule from various supporters.

We are a young team bulging at the seams with talent but our lack of experience was there for all to see on a dreadful away result against Fulham. This brought back the traditional feeling of 'here we go again'.

Inconsistent

A routine demolition of a spineless Newcastle did little to convince at this stage. Consistency is what brings trophies and despite two fantastic victories in the North West (usually an unhappy hunting ground) against Blackburn and Bolton we then delivered an unbelievable "performance" at home to Hull.

Even the shock of seeing Eboue score could not top this. Credit to Hull who came to us and played. They showed more desire and our complacency combined with our usual profligacy in front of goal gave us only our second ever defeat at the Emirates. I left the ground wondering where do we go from here? We only had to wait a few days for the answer.

Having met the boys for our routine pre-match refreshments, talk was underway as to how we would perform against Porto. A 4-0 drubbing combined with slick play and passion put our fears to rest and left us all feeling that our recent results were just a blip.

Oh dear. Back to the Premiership and we grabbed a late equaliser up at Sunderland. More points dropped.

All in all it makes it very hard to make a judgment based on these results.

Get the iron out!

On our day as good if not better than anyone in Europe but we must iron out these lapses in concentration if we are to bring some silverware back home. We need consistency.

Nasri looks a decent player and we have high hopes for him. RVP is scoring goals and if we can keep him fit then that will be a huge bonus. Clichy is playing out of his skin and Cesc continues to show us what a world class player he is, but we do need to protect our back four as they have looked dodgy at times.

Not sure if Denilson is the answer but time will tell. Theo, hat-trick for England et al, is now showing his true potential and looking fantastic. What pace and ability!

Threadbare squad

A large proportion of the Arsenal faithful have been questioning Wenger's transfer policy. We will all be delighted if proven wrong but I fear the inactivity in the transfer window will come back to haunt us.

Our squad just can't compete with Chelski or Man USA when we suffer an injury to a key player. Speaking of which, what on earth has happened to Rosicky? It will be a year out by the time he returns and all for a hamstring?

If we do not have the money then fine, not one of us will complain, but don't come out and say we have £40 million for players and then don't spend and get left behind.

My season ticket is very expensive and all of us are contributing towards this "£40 million". Either reduce the prices, spend the money or be honest. Either will do for any Gooner.

Optimism

We now go into some fixtures over the next few weeks that will define our season. Home to Spurs (hahahahahahahaha nice one), Man USA, Everton, Villa and tough away days at West Ham and Chelski.

I know we can do it if we keep our minds on the job. I also see us ending Chelski's home record. You'll see - 1-0 to the Arsenal.

So come on Arsenal, let's get the job done and play our game. We know you can do it and so do you. We are all behind you 100 per cent so let's get cracking and show this lot who's boss.

I hope the next time I write I will be gloating over some great results. Keep the faith my fellow Gooners and in Arsene we trust.

Come on you rip-roaring Reds!
