Luiz Felipe Scolari Chelsea v Portsmouth

Scolari: Blues looking good

What price a sunny day in August? The terrible weather this month means the Bank Holiday weekend has snuck up un-noticed and with the addition of the re-arranged races from York, there's a feast of sport to get our teeth into.

Premier League

One game into the season and John McCririck will be bursting with excitement as the Premier League favourites have already 'flip-flopped' with Chelsea down to 11-10 with Sky Bet to win the title after getting off to a flyer last weekend.

Luiz Felipe Scolari and Deco took to English football like a duck to water and they should win comfortably again at Wigan on Sunday. Keep a close eye on the corner markets when Chelsea play on Sky Bet Live. They beat Portsmouth 8-3 on the corner count on Sunday and will win at a lot more this season than in previous campaigns with the style Scolari is trying to play. It was noticeable on Sunday how much more attacking the full-backs are, especially Jose Bosingwa.

There are two Sky Bet Live offerings - behind the red button on Sky Sports 1 - this weekend. With everything that's going on at Manchester City, West Ham will never have a better chance to win at Eastlands on Super Sunday and Portsmouth should put up much more of a fight against the champions on Bank Holiday Monday. The draw at 13-5 makes plenty of appeal.

I also fancy West Brom to pull off a surprise this weekend at home to Everton. David Moyes' side did superbly to finish 5th last season but that was largely down to their excellent form at Goodison Park. Away from home they lost seven games and scored only 21 goals, one less than Reading!

This term Everton seem to have problems on and off the field and will be up against a stubborn West Brom side, who I expect to produce similar heroics to Hull last weekend. They looked well organised at the back against Arsenal, play good football and have plenty of attacking threat. 2-1 looks good value for a home win and to 'win to nil' at 11-2 also stands out.

Cricket

England (6-4) will have their work cut out against South Africa (1-2) in the one-dayers but I'm looking forward to backing Owais Shah on the top run-scorer markets.

The Middlesex batsman is about to burst on to the international scene. He has already played in 42 ODIs and averages only 27 but most of his innings have been cameos at number six.

Now he finally gets the chance to bat at number three and has all the tools to succeed as he's the one English batsman capable of nudging the ball around for ones and twos as well as hitting it out of the park, as we saw on Twenty20 Finals Day. Shah is in the form of his life, relishes the big occasion and a big price at 9-2 to be England's top series run-scorer.

Also, keep an eye out for a price for Sri Lanka to win ICC Champions trophy. Sides may withdraw and plenty won't want to be there, whilst in contrast Sri Lanka are up for it, are the form side in one-day cricket, have the two most dangerous bowlers in the world (Murali and new sensation Ajantha Mendis), and could easily end up hosting the tournament.

Olympic Games

I am dreading Monday! I will be lost with no Olympics coverage to watch after two sensational weeks in Beijing.

There are still some exciting events to look forward to this weekend, none more so than the men's marathon in the early hours of Sunday morning. Many of you will have seen the brilliant Martin Lel win the 2005, 2007 and 2008 London marathons, setting a course record of 2:05:15 this year to show he is in the form of his life.

In 13 major races since 2003, Lel has won 10, finished second once, third twice and has had Beijing in his sights for a long time now. Olympic marathons are usually tactical affairs and none of Kebede, Goumri, Shami or Sammy Wanjiru, who he left for dead on the Mall in April, can match Lel's legendary finishing kick. Snap up the 7-2!

Tri-Nations

I fancied South Africa to beat the All Blacks last week, but despite having more of the ball the Boks were soundly beaten.

Naïve tactics from Peter de Villiers were largely to blame and if he was 'out-coached' by Graham Henry last weekend, I dread to think what will happen against the shrewd and innovative Robbie Deans. I'm therefore surprised to see the Wallabies being given a seven point head start.

Horse racing

This week should have been one of the best in the racing calendar but the weather put paid to the Ebor Meeting and full marks to the authorities for saving seven of York's races and thereby giving us spectacular racing on Friday and Saturday.

I still fancy Wicked Daze in the Ebor - now the Newburgh on Friday - and can't wait to see Duke Of Marmalade v New Approach on Saturday. The three-year-old fillies are a useful bunch but I'm less convinced by the colts so if they both show up and granted quick ground, I will go to war with the Duke.
