George Groves has confirmed he will fight Fedor Chudinov for the vacant WBA 'super' world super-middleweight title.
Groves will bid to win a world title at the fourth attempt when he tackles the big-hitting Russian.
"CONFIRMED. I fight Chudinov for the @WBABoxing super super-middleweight championship of the world!" tweeted the Londoner on Wednesday morning.
Groves' promoters Sauerland added on Twitter that negotiations over a venue and date for the 168lbs showdown will continue until January 5, 2017.
The 28-year-old secured his title shot when he defeated domestic rival Martin Murray on points in a WBA eliminator in June.
Groves (25-3-0) lost to Badou Jack on points in September 2015, and was twice stopped by Carl Froch in his previous attempts for a world title.
Groves will return to the ring for the first time since his victory over Eduard Gutknecht at Wembley Arena in November.
Gutknecht collapsed in his dressing room after the fight and was rushed to hospital, where he underwent surgery to relieve swelling on his brain.
The 34-year-old remains in a coma and has since been transferred to a hospital in his native Germany.
Last week, Groves launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for his stricken opponent.
Chudinov (14-1-KO-10) suffered his sole defeat of his professional career when he lost a controversial points defeat in a rematch with Felix Sturm in February.
Sturm made history by becoming the first German to win a fifth world title, but tested positive for a performance enhancing drug in April and vacated the title due to an elbow injury in October.
