Former world title challenger switches to Hatton Promotions
Former WBC super-bantamweight challenger Rendall Munroe has split with promoter Frank Maloney to join up with Hatton Promotions.
Maloney had helped guide the 'Boxing Binman' to a world title shot against WBC champion Toshiaki Nishioka in October.
And Munroe had been due to make his return to action after that loss in a low-key eight rounder in Sunderland next month.
However Munroe has now opted to team up with Hatton Promotions and the Leicester southpaw will now appear on the undercard of Amir Khan's WBA title defence against Paul McCloskey at the MEN Arena on April 16.
Ambitious
"I don't think Frank is too happy and I can understand that," admitted Munroe's manager Mike Shinfield. "But we feel this is the right thing to do at this stage of Rendall's career.
"Frank has done nothing wrong and there has been no fall out. He still promotes two of my boxers.
"Rendall is ambitious; he wants to be a world champion and this deal makes sense. We did not want to take the risk of getting into a rut or going stale.
"The Hattons are connected to Golden Boy in America and if it was a choice between boxing in front of 800 fans in Sunderland or 15,000 at the MEN, what would you do?"
