Enzo Maccarinelli has vowed to complete a dramatic comeback with a world title win over Juergen Braehmer on Saturday.
There were calls for Maccarinelli to quit the sport after a number of crushing stoppage defeats, but he revived his career at light-heavyweight and will challenge Braehmer for the WBA title in Rostock, Germany.
The 33-year-old fully admits he struggled in his last few fights at cruiserweight, which included worrying knockout losses against Denis Lebedev and Alexander Frenkel.
But Maccarinelli is determined to prove he was right to continue by becoming a two-weight world champion this weekend.
"Winning in Germany is not about becoming a two-weight world champion - it's about redemption,” he told Wales Online.
"People thought I was finished and I can't lie, some of my performances in the last couple of years have been terrible.
"But there was a lot going on in my mind and I should have taken a break from boxing.
"It's a good story though - I've been at the top and I've been at the bottom, and now I'm climbing my way back up again."
