Stephen Smith feels he has the power to stop Jose Pedraza

Stephen Smith is convinced he will become Britain's latest world champion in Connecticut this weekend..

The 30-year-old will take on undefeated Puerto Rican Jose Pedraza for the IBF super-featherweight title at the Foxwoods Resort in the early hours of Sunday morning and is confident of victory.

Smith is one of four boxing brothers and is looking to follow in the footsteps of younger sibling Liam, who is a world champion at light-middleweight.

Asked if he was confident of emulating him, Smith - whose other brothers Paul and Callum have won British titles - told Sky Sports: "Definitely.

"It has never been a race with us but there has always been that little bit of bragging rights.

"When I join him as world champion, we can sit there and give Callum stick!"

Pedraza has won all 21 of his fights as a pro, claiming the title when he convincingly outpointed Andrey Klimov last June, before a split-decision win over Edner Cherry when he defended the belt in October.

Regarding Pedraza's likely tactics, Smith said: "He may come out with movement. He has seen me and seen my style, and may think that movement is the best way.

"I believe he won't stand with me.

"I have said all along, I believe I punch hard for a super-featherweight and, if I land, he will know he has been hit. I believe I can get rid of anyone.

"It is going to be a bit of a cagey fight at times but I will up the pace and I think he finds the weight hard as well.

"We will see how the fight unfolds but I am very confident that I will be dominant on the night and I will be a new world champion."
