Eddie Hearn says he has had positive talks about a possible unification bout between Kell Brook and Jessie Vargas

Eddie Hearn is hoping to line up WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas as Kell Brook’s next opponent.

IBF champion Brook improved to 36-0-KO25 when he stopped mandatory challenger Kevin Bizier inside two rounds last month.

Now Hearn, Brook's promoter, wants to secure a high-profile summer opponent for the 29-year-old Sheffield native and has set his sights on a unification bout against American star Vargas (27-1-KO10).

"These guys know how good Kell Brook is so it's either going to take for us to travel or a lot of money, which we're prepared to pay, for them to come over," Hearn told Sky Sports News HQ.

"Vargas is the unification fight so that makes perfect sense. I want Kell to try and pick up the belts, [WBC champion Danny] Garcia is not available so Vargas is a great option for us.

"If he wants to come and make a load of money to box in the UK we can do that, if he wants to fight in Las Vegas, Kell's willing to travel as well."

Other potential opponents for Brook are former two-time former WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley and Lamont Peterson, who holds a win over Brook's domestic rival Amir Khan.

Bradley lost a unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao in April, putting his availability for a summer bout in question, but Hearn sees Peterson as a viable option if he is unable to make the fight with Vargas.

"Bradley probably won't be available until later in the year after coming off a tough fight with Pacquiao," Hearn said.

"Peterson is still in the running. I like that fight as well, he's got wins over Khan and a very close fight against Garcia as well. If we can try and pick up another title that will be fantastic.

"We're really pushing to try and get this fight for Kell Brook. He needs it, he deserves it and it is my job to deliver it because he's that good.

"We have a lot of world champions in Britain and they're doing fantastically well. How many can go on and unify the division and beat the very best in the division?

"Once they win the title that's the next step for them. Kell Brook is ready to explode on the world scene, we've just got to make it happen."
