Amir Khan tells Michelle Phelps he has no problem fighting Gennady Golovkin if he beats Saul Alvarez

Amir Khan has been using Mixed Martial Arts as he prepares to take on Saul Alvarez and admits he will have at least one fight in the sport.

The 29-year-old is taking on one of the toughest tests of his career in Las Vegas at catchweight this weekend, taking on the WBC world middleweight champion at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Khan, the former super-lightweight world champion, has moved up almost two weight classes to face 'Canelo', but revealed he has been using the full-contact combat sport, MMA, which could well lead to a new career.

Saul Alvarez and Amir Khan went face-to-face to start the countdown to this weekend's Las Vegas showdown

"It's always good to do some MMA stuff," Khan told Michelle Phelps of behindthegloves.

"I always do grappling with them [other MMA fighters] because in fights you might have to do that. There might be a time when I have hurt Canelo or he has hurt me and I have to hold on to him and you have to know how to get out of that hold or break him off.

"Doing a little bit of that and training in other sports always helps and it does make you a better fighter.

"I probably will have a fight in MMA definitely, because whenever I've watched MMA I've never seen anyone who is quick or who has speed like me, so I think I could catch plenty of them out with my good boxing and grappling skills."

Khan says he has no problem in facing the WBA and IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin if he is able to beat Alvarez on Saturday.

"It's something I am going to do and once I win this fight and if it is 'GGG' [Golovkin], it's him," he added.

"I respect him as a great fighter and he's an amazing fighter and it's all about fighting the best names in boxing and that's what I love doing."
