George Groves showed flashes of his best, says old friend Carl Froch

George Groves

George Groves beat Martin Murray in the British super-middleweight last-chance saloon scrap, so who better to analyse it than his old friend, Carl Froch?

I am not making this up, but you've got to say George Groves did alright. Maybe even a little better than that.

I am still not convinced he has a God-given right to win a world title, but I can see him definitely getting another shot if he carries on like this.

Of course the best-in-the-business jab was working well again and looked very sharp.

There were a few little glimpses of what we all knew but as much as we all like Martin Murray, the size was an obvious advantage.

But let's not take anything away from Groves because I wanted to see him back to his old self and as I said, there was enough of that.

Of course the best-in-the-business jab was working well again and looked very sharp. He also showed some decent counter shots and used that right as well, so it wouldn't surprise me if he got a fourth world title fight.

You know I am not that impressed with the super-middleweight division these days, but I don't see why not.

If I would criticise anything it would be that it turned into a real hard shift for him.

After putting Murray into deep waters I though there was a chance of him hurting him, or Martin being pulled out around the seventh, but by the time it got to the 10th, Martin was right back in it.

George Groves won a unanimous points decision over Martin Murray in an exciting contest which saw both fighters hurt

He even caught Groves a couple of times so that in itself proves we are still waiting to see all of the old George Groves. But then again, going the full 12 rounds is something I wanted to see and that was a big plus after what he's done in the past.

People will say his best performance was in the first one with me and yes, that was my worst performances, but I agree. It probably was.

George Groves took the initiative against Martin Murray at The 02 on June 25.

He threw some really hard shots then and he clearly still does because we saw a really brave performance from Murray, but will Groves match him and get a fourth shot? Probably.

The jury is still out but I am going to be positive. There were signs that he is back and with Shane McGuigan working with him and giving him a different outlook, he certainly has taken a big step in the right direction.
