Kell Brook and fellow world welterweight champion Jessie Vargas have traded blows on social media ahead of a prospective unification clash this summer.
IBF champion Brook (36-0-KO25) had been expected to confirm a clash with WBO holder Vargas (27-1-KO10) at Bramall Lane in September but with talks yet to be completed, the American launched a verbal assault.
Vargas said via social media: "I signed my part of the deal a month ago but things have changed and I want to update and apologize to my fans. The date for my next fight has been changed due to the fact that Brook is having trouble signing his end of the deal.
"Thank you for your support and I will keep you informed.
"He doesn't seem to be interested in the fight from the looks of it. Next big fight that the fans would enjoy would be the [Timothy] Bradley rematch!"
The outbursts prompted an angry reaction from 'The Special One', who responded: "Stop talking **** @jesse_vargasJV TR [Top Rank] have the terms (over 3 times your biggest purse). We are ready to knock you clean out #unified."
Vargas, 27, won the vacant WBO belt with an impressive ninth-round stoppage of Sadam Ali in March.
