Unbeaten light-heavyweight hope Thomas Oosthuizen returned from a lengthy break to stop Daniel Bruwer in nine rounds in South Africa.
The troubled 28-year-old (26-0-2-KO15) had not fought for more than a year but showed little sign of ring rust as he knocked his opponent down in the fourth and seventh sessions on his way to an encouraging victory.
Bruwer (24-7-1-KO21) had been out of the ring for nearly two years and restricted himself to single-shot attempts to derail Oosthuizen, who exhibited superior punch-picking and timing throughout.
Southpaw Oosthuizen roused the Gauteng crowd in the fourth as he produced a stunning right hook to the body that sent Bruwer crumpling to the canvas, where he would be deposited again by a left to the head three rounds later.
Oosthuizen continued to stand and trade with his foe and by the ninth, referee Tony Nyangiwe had seen enough after Bruwer was staggered by another sustained assault.
