The WBA have delayed their crucial ruling on whether to sanction a heavyweight world title fight between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko due to "legal matters".

A planned fight between IBF champion Joshua and Klitschko is hanging in the balance as the Ukrainian is expected to target an alternative bout with Lucas Browne in Hamburg if the WBA does not put its vacant belt on the line.

The WBA were due to reveal their decision on Thursday, but are yet to make an official announcement.

WBA president Gilberto Mendoza Jr told ESPN's Dan Rafael the organisation had "too many legal matters to consider", which relate to "the settlement agreement with Lucas Browne".

Browne claimed the WBA 'regular' belt after a 10th round stoppage win over Ruslan Chagaev in March, but was later stripped of the title after failing a drug test.

The WBA has since reached a legal settlement with the Australian, who was originally ordered to face Fres Oquendo for the 'regular' belt.

Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn has urged Klitschko to push ahead with an eagerly anticipated fight with the IBF champion, rather than a "soft touch" in Germany.
