Scott Quigg hopes to work towards another world title fight in 2017

Scott Quigg is targeting a world title eliminator by the end of 2017 as he pursues the winner of the Carl Frampton-Leo Santa Cruz rematch.

The Bury man has followed Frampton up to featherweight and will watch with interest when the WBA 'super' champion battles Santa Cruz again in Las Vegas on January 29, live on Sky Sports.

Quigg remains determined to avenge his points defeat to Frampton last February, but is also keen to face Santa Cruz, who was named as a possible opponent when they fought at super-bantamweight.

"I'm always going to want that rematch with Frampton," Quigg told Sky Sports News HQ. "I would love to fight the winner.

"I would definitely be open to fighting Leo Santa Cruz as well. It's a fight that has been mentioned in the past and you want to be involved in those fights, and I believe I'm good enough to beat them fighters on my day."

On his debut in a new division, Quigg moved into the top 10 of the WBA and WBC rankings with an explosive stoppage of Jose Cayetano, and hopes to edge closer to a world title shot with a 'big name' fight.

"I felt a lot more comfortable and not as worried or stressed about making weight," said the 28-year-old. "I'm eating more, so I'm a lot happier.

"A world title won't be the next one, but we're looking at the back end of the year, hopefully being in the mix.

"It will either be a defence of what I've just won or we're trying to push for an eliminator for a world title, so it will be a big fight and a big name either way."

Watch Carl Frampton's rematch with Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas on Sunday January 29 from 1am on Sky Sports 1.
