Swedish boxer Erik Skoglund has been placed in a medically-induced coma after surgery to repair a bleed on the brain, and is in "a serious yet stable condition".
Skoglund was taken to hospital in Sweden after feeling ill following a training session on Friday in his hometown of Nykoping.
The 26-year-old fighter last fought on September 16 when he lost to Britain's Callum Smith in the World Boxing Super Series quarter-final contest in Liverpool.
Sauerland Promotion released a statement that said: "As previously reported, Erik Skoglund was taken to hospital yesterday (Friday) having felt ill after a training session in his hometown of Nykoping.
"Erik was placed in a medically induced coma and underwent surgery last night to repair a bleed on the brain. Doctors are pleased with the results and Erik remains in a serious yet stable condition.
"The next 3-4 days are critical for his recovery. During this time, we ask that everyone respect the privacy of Erik and his family. We will communicate further information when it becomes available."
Super-middleweight Smith offered his support to the Swede, writing on Twitter: "Thoughts and prayers are with Erik Skoglund and his family. Wishing him a speedy recovery."
WBA super-middleweight champion George Groves also took to social media to wish Skoglund well, tweeting: "So sad and deeply concerning to hear the news Erik Skoglund has fallen ill and is in a medically induced coma.
"He is such a nice guy, thoughts are with his family and team."
