Injuries have meant the Sheffield stylist has been dormant since beating Hector Saldivia last October, seeing three potential dates with IBF champion Devon Alexander fall by the wayside.
With the American having fulfilled his mandatory defence against Lee Purdy, a fight with Brook is on the backburner but the Briton insists Alexander is one of many options.
"It's been very frustrating for me - the worst thing I've ever had to go through," he told Sky Sports of his injury nightmare. "But that's history now, I can't do anything about it.
"I'm still mandatory for the IBF title so I'm looking to make a statement in this fight and come back with a bang.
"You can't just start where you left off. It's been a slow rehab but we're pushing on now.
"The first fight (against Jones) was a war, and it's got fireworks written all over it and it'll be an exciting fight like the first time.
"The fact is I'm still Alexander's mandatory but you don't know what's going to happen in boxing. I'm ranking highly by all the governing bodies so I could fight for another world title.
"I need to get back in people's minds - I've missed the fans and I think the fans have missed me."
With Alexander now lining up Amir Khan for his next defence in December, Brook will be in line to face the winner - and a potentially mouth-watering showdown with Khan.
"I think you know I want to knock Amir Khan out like he has been before," he added. "I'd love to fight him and I think we all want that."
Brook vs Jones is the co-feature on a night that sees Olympic Champion Luke Campbell make his professional debut at Hull KR's MS3 Craven Park stadium.
