The Kazakhstan bomber floored his outclassed opponent three times in what was a routine voluntary defence of the belt.
Golovkin's powerful right hand sent the Ghana boxer to the canvas at the end of the first round.
A quick left hook knocked Adama down in the sixth, forcing an eight count, and he was down again with a left jab in the seventh for another count before a left hook prompted the referee to stop the fight.
That makes it 16 straight knockout wins for 'GGG', who is closing in on a clash with an elite level fighter - many of whom are avoiding him.
"I feel terrific, I'm very happy with my performance," Golovkin said. "From the opening round I was comfortable with the fight and felt good about my power and the pace of the fight. He was a tough opponent but I was never hurt."
