Josh Warrington will fight for European title in front of hometown fans

Josh Warrington has been handed a European featherweight title shot against Davide Dieli.

The unbeaten Yorkshireman will have hometown advantage when he challenges Dieli for the vacant title at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on October 4.

A hugely successful year for Warrington will hit another high if he adds the European title to his British and Commonwealth belts.

The 23-year-old has already picked up wins over respected domestic rivals Rendall Munroe and Martin Lindsay in recent months.

His Italian opponent holds a respectable record of 15 wins and three losses, but will have his hands full against the in-form Leeds man.

Ricky Burns, the former two-weight world champion, returns to action on the undercard after successive defeats.

The Scotsman suffered a shock points loss to Dejan Zlaticanin in June, just a few months after losing his WBO lightweight belt on points to Terence Crawford, and could return at light-welterweight.

Brian Rose will also be hoping to rebuild after his brave stoppage defeat by WBO light-middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade, while exciting super-middleweight Callum Smith can extend his 13-fight unbeaten record.
