Jamie McDonnell will come out firing on all cylinders when he takes on Tomoki Kameda in America on Sunday night.

The WBA world bantamweight champion puts his belt back on the line following their first meeting in May, when he edged a close decision after 12 rounds despite being floored in the third.

McDonnell (26-2-1-KO12) feels a slow start made the fight closer than it should have been and under the guidance of Dave Coldwell, is ready to put the pressure on Kameda (31-1-KO19) from the first bell in Texas, live on Sky Sports.

"I think it will be a fast-paced fight," said McDonnell.

"I started too slowly last time and I don't want that to happen again. I believe I will stop him late. I took him into the trenches last time but I didn't put it on him enough.

"I think I will make a big statement. I have a great engine and I always come on strong in the back end of the fight.

"I think from round six on it was my fight [in the first fight]. I started too slowly but I worked hard and got the win.

"We knew he was going to be fast, but he's the fastest I've faced. I got tagged with a right hand but I know what to expect now. I've sparred against a lad that throws his right hand like Kameda does so I know how to keep out of range for that.

Ed Robinson looks back at the May showdown between Jamie McDonnell and Tomoki Kameda

"I feel I am hitting harder. I've been working on my power in the gym, and I feel it's going to pay off."

McDonnell wants to fight the biggest names in the bantamweight division and is even ready to move up a weight to mix it with the likes of Scott Quigg and Carl Frampton.

By contrast, Kameda knows another defeat will push him back down the ladder, having been the WBO world champion before vacating it ahead of his first crack at the Yorkshireman.

And while McDonnell has familiar faces in Coldwell and his brother Jamie in his corner, the Japanese fighter has a new set-up in place to try to avenge the defeat.

"I have a completely different team now with Ismael Salas and Angel Heredia and 'Stitch' Duran as cut man," said Kameda. "I feel much better going into this fight with better sparring and preparation and it will show in the fight. Salas has a great game plan and I can't wait to perform it.

"McDonnell is tall, so getting inside his jab took some extra work.  He's a good veteran but I will show I'm the superior fighter once again."
