Ohara Davies is causing a stir so Nigel Benn, Ricky Burns and other boxing figures have their say

Ohara Davies is making noise as he climbs the ladder

Ohara Davies has been hitting the headlines for both actions and words lately - but what does the boxing world make of him?

The young Hackney fighter (12-0-KO10) shattered the unbeaten record of Zoltan Szabo last week and has been demanding a clash with former Commonwealth super-lightweight champion Dave 'Rocky' Ryan (17-9-KO4) ever since.

Word around some campfires is that Davies' increasing brashness would be punished by defeat to the Derby veteran but most are celebrating the rise of 'Two Tanks' as he sets about adding to the English lightweight title he won in April.

With his heavy hands, unbridled ambition, penchant for trash talk and a dazzling variety of hairstyles all intensifying focus, we asked members of his team plus world champions past and present to assess Davies' prospects.

So here's what they say about Ohara Davies...

Nigel Benn

'The Dark Destroyer' was visiting Tony Sims' gym to oversee the preparations of his son Conor when he met Davies.

He's got some long arms and we did some pad work. I wish I was out there to work with him more because he wants to listen. He's a lightweight or super-lightweight and I think he can go all the way.

What I like about Ohara is not just his training or dietary discipline - I actually like the way he talks. He told one guy that he should be gardening and I actually think he believes that. When he talks, I believe him. I believe in what he says and he's a lovely guy who's turned his life around.

Ricky Burns

Scotland's sole three-weight world champion is a gym-mate of Davies and the pair have sparred countless rounds.

Ohara is so awkward and he's got the longest arms ever. He can bang with both hands as well. I think he'd beat a lot of the top domestic fighters already. When you're sparring him and watching him spar other guys, you know he can really hit.

When I say he can really hit, I mean he can properly hit so I can only imagine what it must be like with lighter gloves on. If he lands on any of them, and it'll only be a matter of time before he does, then I think they'll go. As long as he gets the fights at the right time and is progressed along nicely, he's 100 per cent going to be a world champion.

Kevin Mitchell

After retiring earlier this year, former world lightweight challenger Mitchell offers Davies advice in and out of the gym.

I think I'll be involved with Davies quite a lot. He's flying there and smashing people to pieces in sparring. He's hard work for anyone, to be fair. I think he'll be the next big thing. I've padded with him.

He's a freak. He's unbelievable. He'll definitely become a world champion and I think he'd clean up the British lightweight division now. You should see him in the gym - any opponent he's put in with, he deals with easily. He's a character but I tell you, Ohara can really fight. He's got the ability to do great things.

Sims made the transition from reality TV show 'The Only Way Is Essex' and now manages Davies among others.

He's an exciting fighter, very avoided in his weight category. He's more than on a domestic level now. I think he could definitely fight for the British title, but it's just whether someone will give him the shot and if they don't give him the shot, he's got to become mandatory and I think that's what he's working towards now.

He's very eccentric, he's got his own personality. Not everybody agrees with some of the things he says. But I think that's just what make him Ohara.

Benn is a close friend of Davies' and the pair are seen as two of the brightest stars under Tony Sims' tutelage.

I sparred him and it was the sharpest I've ever seen him. He hit me once with his famous left hook and it felt like the earth had been pulled from under my feet. I tried to play it off cool but it wasn't happening.

As he fights better people, I think he'll show how good and how strong he really is.
