75-1 - Good rotation of the strike from the skipper as he prods the ball into the covers for one. Another single is added to the total as Warnapura turns the ball into the leg side. The batsman scamper through for a quick single. Full one from Aamer and the natural angle of the delivery sees it going down leg meaning that as the batsman is clipped on the pad the ball flies down to fine leg for two.
69-1 - Nicely driven by Sangakkara but he picks out the cover fielder. Cut away backward of square by Sangakkara for a single.
68-1 - Two more to Warnapura as he flicks the ball past midwicket. A single to Warnapura as he nudges the ball to square leg. Nicely played by Paranavitana as he plays the ball late, dabbing it past slip for four. Malik gave up the chase a touch too early though, he could have reeled it in. WICKET! Paranavitana gets down on one knee and has a big heave across the line, he misses and has his stumps disturbed! A bit of a delay in giving it out, as umpire Taufel was unsighted, but replays confirm he was bowled.
53-0 - A leg bye as Warnapura is rapped on the pads looking to nudge the ball into the leg side. Paranavitana turns the ball into the midwicket region for a single. Warnapura dabs the ball wide of mid on for a single. A good bouncer from Aamer finds its target, hitting Paranavitana on the body, no damage done though.
50- 0 - Ajmal returns some sanity to proceedings with a tidy maiden.
50-0 - It's Mohammad Amer to continue after tea. One more to the total as Paranavitana whips the ball to deep square leg. Aamer strays down leg and Warnapura is onto it, helping the ball on its way to the fine leg fence. Four more! Great timing as Warnapura hammers a cut behind square. Big lbw shout to end the over as Warnapura tries to turn the ball into the leg side but umpire Harper isn't interested. That was a good shout, perhaps the angle had the umpire thinking it would go down leg.
What a session it's been! After fighting so hard to get back into the game Pakistan collapsed horribly to hand the initiative back to the Sri Lanka. The home side haven't looked back, racking up 41 without loss in their six overs before tea. Join us in twenty minutes for the evening session.
41-0 - A bit of spin before tea with Saeed Ajmal coming on to bowl. Paranavitana is watchful before going back on his stumps as punching the ball to deep point for a single. An lbw shout to end the session but it was more hopeful than anything else, it was going way down leg.
40-0 - Another no ball from Gul as Warnapura pushes wide of Younus at mid off, the skipper fires in the throw forcing the batsman to bring out the dive, but the throw doesn't find the target. Single to Paranavitana as he nudges the ball into the on side. A great piece of timing from Warnapura as Gul once again oversteps, the batsman uses his feet well to flick the ball through to the square leg boundry. Another no ball, Pakistan really can't afford this. Warnapura hooks the ball out to the man at deep square for a single. Warnapura prods the ball into the leg side for a single to end the over.
29-0 - Warnapura races to 19 with another four, flicked wide of mid on. Big lbw shout from Aamer as Warnapura looks to turn the ball into the leg side. Umpire Taufel sayWarnapura races to 19 with another four, flicked wide of mid on. Big lbw shout from Aamer as Warnapura looks to turn the ball into the leg side. Umpire Taufel says there was bat involved though so not out. s there was bat involved though so not out.
24-0 - A bit of extra effort sees Gul overstep. Warnapura rocks onto the back foot and cracks the ball through the covers for four. Bouncer from Gul and Warnpaura goes on the hook. He's not quite onto it in time and gets a top edge that flies very fine for six. Single to Warnapura as he turns the ball into the leg side. Oooh, Paranavitana gets an edge behind, he plays it with soft hands though and the ball bounces short of slip.
11-0 - Paranavitana gets off the mark in style, cutting a short and wide delivery to the fence. Solidly driven through the off side, it stops just short of the fence though, three runs.
4-0 - Umar Gul is going to get things going for Pakistan; he'll need to strike early. Super shot from Warnpaura as he drives powerfully through the covers, stamping his authority on the innings early. He's been out of form so that's a good way for him to get going.
The Pakistani players are trotting out into the middle; they're joined by the umpires and the Sri Lankan opening pair of Warnapura and Paranavitana.
It really has been quite a day here in Colombo! Resuming on 178-1 the visitors have crashed to 320 all out. One has to think the rot started at the top with skipper Younus Khan getting himself out with an unnecessary reverse sweep. From there it was all Herath and Kulesakara, with the little spinner picking up his first five-wicket haul. A target of 171 shouldn't trouble Sri Lanka, but it won't be easy first up batting under heavy cloud with a new ball.
320 - It looks like Sri Lanka have decided to take the new ball and Kulesakara is steaming in with it. A single down to third man, wide of the slip cordon. WICKET! Another one for Kulasekara, Pakistan are all out! The ball pitches outside off and nips back off to clip Ajmal on his back pad, it was quite high but looks like it would have hit the stumps. What a turnaround from Sri Lanka!
319-9 - Gul goes for the big slog sweep over midwicket but he can't get anything on it. WICKET! Herath gets another one, Gul is gone! It pitches on off and goes on straight, Gul has a big stride in but umpire Taufel is confident it would have hit and gives him his marching orders. It looks a good decision. That's Herath's maiden five-wicket haul.
319-8 - It's Kulasekara to continue after the drinks break. Oooh, good stuff from the bowler as he beats Aamer outside off. Aamer controls the ball nicely, dabbing the ball short of slip. A swing and a miss to end the over, it's a maiden.
319-8 - There's just a slip and short leg in for Gul. Herath beats his outside edge and then bowls the quicker one, but this time the tail-ender is equal to the task. It's a maiden and the umpire signals for drinks.
319-8 - Kulasekara keeps Gul back in his crease and the bowler defends pretty comfortably. The fast bowler sends down a bouncer and the umpire signals a wide. The extra ball gives Gul an opportunity to put it wide of backward point.
317-8 - Gul defends nice and easy and then keeps the strike with a single wide of short leg. For the first time in six overs, Pakistan have batted through an over without losing a wicket.
316-8 - Kulasekara is down the leg side and it's too far for Dilshan. The ball rolls away to the boundary for four extras. WICKET! A wicket falls for the fifth over in a row. Kulasekara brings it back into Abdur Rauf who looks to defend. He misses the ball and gets hit on the pads right in front. Umpire Harper lifts his finger and sends Rauf back to the stands for a pair. New man Mohammad Aamer is beaten past his outside edge.
312-7 - Shoaib Malik, who has lost several partners, takes the fight to Herath as he walks down the track and goes straight tdown the ground for six. WICKET! Oh dear! Malik looks to defend the straighter one, but it goes between bat and pad and clips the left bail. Seven down now with a lead of just 162. Six wickets have fallen for just 27 runs. Can Sri Lanka wrap this up quickly to leave them a target of less than 200? Umar Gul defends the remaining four balls.
306-6 - Akmal is onto the back foot and pushes it into the covers for a couple. WICKET! Another one bites the dust! Akmal plants his front foot and looks to defend with a straight pad. He misses the ball and there's a massive appeal for lbw. The umpire says it's out, but it looked a touch high as it hit the Pakistan wicketkeeper on the flap. Abdur Rauf strides out with Sri Lanka on a roll. This has been a typical Pakistan collapse.
304-5 - WICKET! Sri Lanka get another on! Alam plants his front foot and looks to defend the spinner. However, he gets an edge and the ball lops into the air and the man at short leg takes a comfortable catch. Pakistan have lost their last four wickets for just 18 runs. Their lead is 154. Kamran Akmal is off the mark with one to point.
303-4 - Kulasekara gets some movement off the seam and Misbah allows it to go through to the keeper. WICKET! Misbah looks to work it to the on-side, but misses the ball and gets hit on the pads. Big appeal and the umpire lifts his finger. Replays show Misbah was unlucky as it was probably going down leg side.
302-3 - Misbah turns it past slip for a single and his partner gets a big stride out to the rest of the over.
302-3 - Fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara finally gets his hands on the new ball. Misbah turns it to square leg for one. Tidy start from Kulasekara.
301-3 - Misbah is off his pair with a whip shot through square leg. Herath beats the bat, the stumps and the keeper and they take two byes. The extras bring up the visitors' 300 and take their lead past 150.
298-3 - Sangakkara keeps faith with Paranavitana after his wicket just before lunch. He nearly gets another one as Alam cuts very late and the ball flies between keeper and slip.
294-3 - Sangakkara has decided to take the new ball, but persists with the spinner, for the time being at least. There's just a short leg in. WICKET! The plan works. The new ball skids on and Yousuf plays all around it and gets hit on the back leg. Big appeal and umpire Taufel lifts his finger. Misbah-ul-Haq, who is on a pair, comes out to the middle. It's a wicket maiden from Herath.
Welcome back to the afternoon session. The morning session was all Pakistan, let's see if the hosts can bounce back.
Brilliant session for the visitors as Fawad Alam moved onto 164. He was kept good company by his captain Younus Khan who hit 82 before suffering a brain freeze with an attempted reverse sweep. With their lead 144, there are lots of work to be done by Sri Lanka's bowlers. Do join us again after the break.
294-2 - As expected, Sangakkara opts not to take the new ball, but he does throw the ball to Mendis to bowl the final over before lunch. Yousuf opens the face of the bat and steers it wide of the slip for a couple and then gets beaten past the outside edge. The over and session ends with three singles.
289-2 - The new ball is due after this over, but it is unlikely that Sangakkara will take it. Yousuf steers it to square and takes one. Herath gets one to spin back into Alam, who does well to keep his hands down.
288-2 - Paranavitana replaces the woefully out of form Mendis. WICKET! The off-break bowler makes the breakthrough for the hosts. Actually, he didn't make the breakthrough, Younus gave them the breakthrough. The Pakistan skipper looks to play a premeditated reverse sweep, but gets a top edge that lobs up and into Dilshan's gloves. Younus will be kicking himself, especially with lunch just around the corner. Mohammad Yousuf is up and running with one to mid-off while
285-1 - The lead continues to grow with a couple of well-judged singles. The 200-run partnership comes up with an Alam edge past the keeper for four.
279-1 - Mendis flights it and Alam drives down the ground. Mid-off has no chance to cut it off. It's been a very poor spell from Mendis. He was also not his usual self in the first Test. Is he missing his mate Muttiah Muralitharan or maybe it's the change in captains that's affecting him?
272-1 - Younus sweeps to fine leg, Alam inches closer to 150 with a push to mid-on before Younus goes to point. Alam goes to 150 with a sweep shot. Superb stuff from the debutant.
268-1 - Play gets hold up as Younus needs a change of gloves. Alam is now two short of 150 after taking a single to fine leg. Younus opens up, clearing the front leg and going straight over the bowler's head for a boundary. He keeps the strike with a little dab to the on-side.
262-1 - Younus turns over the strike to Alam with one to square leg. The debutant is closing in on another milestone here. He moves to 147 with one to fine leg.
260-1 - The two Pakistani batsmen have done an awesome job this morning. Taking the singles on offer and cashing in on the rubbish balls. Speaking of rubbish balls, Mendis goes short and wide again and Alam cracks it through the covers for a boundary.
253-1 - Weather update for you. It's slightly cloudy at the moment, but rain is only expected late in the afternoon. Herath keeps things tight as Younus comes forward to defend. The Pakistan skipper eventually gets off strike with one to backward square leg.
252-1 - Alam gets it to mid-off for one and Younus cuts for a single. Better over from Mendis after his 11-run opening over. He looks well short of confidence.
250-1 - Younus sweeps to midwicket for three and Alam goes down the ground for one. Herath gets some sharp turn and draws the edge from the Pakistan skipper's bat, but it falls just short of Mahela Jayawardene at first slip and goes for four. Pakistan's lead is now 100 runs.
242-1 - Finally Ajantha Mendis comes into the attack on day three. There's a short-leg and leg-slip in for him. He starts off with a short one and Younus pulls it away for one. Another short one and Alam pulls it away for four. The boundary brings on the 150-run partnership. Alam then sweeps fine and gets four more before taking one to square leg. Short and wide again and Younus plays it to the sweeper on the cover boundary.
231-1 - Surprisingly Ajantha Mendis' long wait for a bowl on day three continues. Younus goes to midwicket for one while Alam sweeps for a couple.
228-1 - Alam gets it down to deep backward point. Kulasekara is too short and Dilshan can't gather cleanly and Pakistan take a a bye. Alam drives down the ground and good fielding from Mendis at mid-off keeps it down to a couple.
224-1 - Younus plays away from his body and it's in the air for a little while, but falls safe. He gets off strike with one to deep point. Alam keeps the strike with a paddle.
222-1 - After two consecutive maidens, Younus gets the scoreboard ticking again with a pull shot for one. Kulasekara ends with a yorker which Alam deals with comfortably.
221-1 - There's a silly point (who is quite far away from the bat) and a short leg in for Herath. Alam, though, plays the over out quite comfortable. Another silly shout for lbw from Sri Lanka and umpire Taufel just shakes his head.
221-1 - Younus walks into a couple of shots, but he can't get it past the fielder. It's the first maiden of the day from Kulasekara.
221-1 - The left-right hand combination turn over the strike with a couple of quick singles. It's a tad short from Herath and Alam goes wide of mid-off for three. Runs continue to come freely as Younus drives through extra cover for a couple and then dabs it to the on-side for one.
213-1 - Double bowling change sees Nuwan Kulasekara come on for Paranavitana. Younus initially struggles to find the gaps, but a cut shot down to third man gets him the single. Alam keeps the strike with a well-judged run to midwicket.
211-1 - Rangana Herath replaces fast bowler Thushara. Younus plays it into the covers and takes off for one. Rangana is looking to get it in the marks outside the left-hander's off-stump, but Alam defends pretty well.
210-1 - Paranavitana continues and Younus helps himself to four with a straight-bat shot over mid-off. Younus gets his 21st Test 50 with a paddle to the on-side.
205-1 - Younus gets it between slips and gully for a boundary. Sangakkara brings in a short cover to stop the Younus cover drive. He takes a single to deep backward square leg.
200-1 - Younus picks up three with a shot off the back foot through the covers. Alam gets an outside edge past slip and it runs away to the boundary. Some spin for the off-break bowler. The boundary also brings up Pakistan's 200 and stretches their lead to 50 runs.
193-1 - The 100-run partnership comes up with a push into the covers by Younus. Alam twice steers it past point and gets a couple of both occasions. Ouch! The left-hander takes his eyes off a bouncer and it hits him smack bang on the helmet and he lands on his back side. Younus has a little chuckle from the other end. Alam hits back with a punch off the back foot through covers.
184-1 - Kumar Sangakkara springs a surprise by deploying part-timer Tharanga Paranavitana first up. Alam defends off the front foot for most of the over. He decides to pad up one ball and there's a shout from the Sri Lanka's, but that's never going to be out. Alam's first boundary comes with a lovely cut shot through cover.
180-1 - Thilan Thushara kicks off proceedings with a slightly widish one and Younus Khan is caught fishing. He gets off strike with a quick single to backward point. Alam was a little slow out of the blocks, but no harm done. Alam's first run on day four comes with a push to point.
The Sri Lanka team form a huddle in the middle and here come Pakistan's centurion Fawad Alam and captain Younus Khan.
Sri Lanka's Trevor Bayliss believes the bowlers face a difficult job over the next two days. However, he remains positive that they can take a couple of early wickets.
You are welcome to email me, shahida jacobs, at any time during the day.
Fawad Alam's century on debut has helped Pakistan to a 28-run lead. They will need to bat for pretty much the whole day if they don't want to go 2-0 down in the series. Hosts Sri Lanka will be looking for a quick breakthrough with the ball, knowing that one wicket could spark another famous Pakistan collapse.
Welcome to our live coverage of day four of the second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
