•

    Over 81 Tremlett 0-0-0-0nb-0-1-2

238-6 - Yes he is. Tremlett is handed the new cherry with a packed slip cordon. He gets a couple to lift sharply straight away. White picks up a single down to fine-leg and O'Keefe drives between the bowler and mid-off for two.

  •

    Over 80 Panesar 0-1-0-0-0-0

234-6 - White drops it on the off-side for a sharp single. Panesar hasn't turned it very much and the pitch is offering no help. He has, however, been commendably accurate in support of the seamers. The new ball is now due - is Strauss going to take it straight away?

  •

    Over 79 Collingwood 0-0-0-1-0-0

233-6 - Another bouncer from Collingwood is given the full treatment by White, fortunately there is a man back on the square-leg fence so it's just a single.

  •

    Over 78 Panesar 0-3-0-0-0-0

232-6 - White gets down rather stiffly on one knee to get his sweep away for three. Australia A trail by 61.

  •

    Over 77 Collingwood 0-0-0-0-0-0

229-6 - Glorious day in Hobart, the best of the match. The sun is out and there is a gently breeze blowing across the Bellerive Oval - perfect for a game of cricket. Collingwood is back on now and is convinced he has bounced out (!) O'Keefe. Umpire Simon Fry is unmoved and replays back up his judgment, the ball having hit O'Keefe on the shoulder on the way to Strauss at slip after he missed with his attempted pull.

  •

    Over 76 Panesar 0-1-0-0-1-1

229-6 - O'Keefe has settled in alongside White and the partnership is starting to become annoying for England. Panesar is worked around for three risk-free singles. The new ball is due after four more overs, Shahzad and Tremlett are being saved for it.

  •

    Over 75 Bresnan 0-1-0-0-0-2

226-6 - O'Keefe takes on a bouncer and hits it up in the air but short of Shahzad on the backward square-leg boundary. White is fortunate not to drag an attempted leave back onto his stumps after waiting too long to raise his bat out of the way. Good running allows White to turn one into two after easing the final ball of the over into the leg-side.

  •

    Over 74 Panesar 2-0-0-0-0-0

223-6 - White attempts to smear Panesar's first delivery over midwicket but it comes off the underedge and down to fine-leg for a couple.

  •

    Over 73 Bresnan 0-1-0-0-0-1

221-6 - Bresnan to continue after lunch and immediately he has the ball reverse swinging in at O'Keefe, who inside edges into the leg-side for a single. White retains the strike with a single to square-leg as Bresnan gets his line wrong to provide easy pickings.

  • Lunch

Chris Tremlett took three quick wickets as Australia A were reduced from an overnight position of 128-3 to 219-6 in their second innings by lunch on day four. Tremlett (3-43) denied Phil Hughes (81) a century and then, in his next over, removed Tim Paine (2) and Steve Smith (0) with successive balls. Australia A still trail by 74 and their hopes of escaping with a draw now rest firmly with skipper Cameron White (75no) and seventh-wicket partner Steven O'Keefe (8no).

  •

    Over 72 Collingwood 0-0-1-0-0-0

219-6 - O'Keefe inside edge a drive out to square-leg for a single as another uneventful Collingwood over takes us through to lunch.

  •

    Over 71 Bresnan 0-4-0-0-0-4

218-6 - Bresnan digs it in short and White pulls in imperious fashion to the square-leg boundary. He tries to repeat the dose but the ball doesn't bounce as much as expected and this time he makes contact only with fresh air. Tremlett makes a diving stop on the boundary after chasing White's cover drive - but the third umpire determines his efforts were in vain and White is credited with another four.

  •

    Over 70 Collingwood 0-0-0-0-1-0

210-6 - Strauss, probably with the first Ashes Test in mind more than the situation of today's game, decides to give Paul Collingwood's medium pace an outing. Not much doing, Trott's fumble in the covers allows White to scoot through for a single.

  •

    Over 69 Bresnan 0-2-0-0-0-0

209-6 - After Tremlett's three-wicket burst, Strauss recalls Bresnan for a pre-lunch spell. O'Keefe, who impressed with 66 in the first innings, collects a couple off his pads.

  •

    Over 68 Panesar 0-1-0-0-4-0

207-9 - White sweeps hard and sends the ball to the square-leg boundary at a rate of knots. He attempts to repeat the dose but this time gets an edge and it drops not far short of slip.

  •

    Over 67 Tremlett 0-0-0-0-3-0

202-6 - Tremlett gets another go at O'Keefe, who picks up three off his pads to bring up Australia A's 200. They still trail by .

  •

    Over 66 Panesar 1-0-0-0-0-1

199-6 - I was impressed by Panesar's spell last evening as, even though he didn't get a wicket, he had several near misses. He has not looked quite as threatening so far today.

  •

    Over 65 Tremlett 0-0-1-4lb-0-0

197-6 - Tremlett is causing all sort of problems. O'Keefe has his helmet clanged by a surprise bouncer - first one he's bowled all day. It races away for four byes and O'Keefe, who would have been in big trouble in the pre-helmet era as that would have hit him close to the temple, then shows good heart by getting in line and blocking the next two to survive the over.

  •

    Over 64 Panesar 0-0-0-1-0-0

192-6 - Monty is back round-the-wicket to White, who pushes a single into the covers off the back foot.

  •

    Over 63 Tremlett 0-W-W-0-0-0

191-6 - Wicket! Tremlett does the damage again, winning an lbw verdict against Paine. The ball nipped back off the seam and hit Paine in front of middle - it was going on to hit leg-stump. Wicket! Two in two balls for Tremlett as Smith celebrates his place in Australia's first-Test squad by shouldering arms at a delivery that again seams back - this time just enough to clip the outside of off-stump. Tremlett on a hat-trick. O'Keefe easily survives the hat-trick ball, driving a full delivery along the ground the mid-off. He only just manages to keep out his second delivery, jamming down on a defensive prod to one that kept a bit low. Superb over from Tremlett.

  •

    Over 62 Panesar 0-1-0-0-4-0

191-4 - With Panesar over-the-wicket and pitching into the footmarks outside leg-stump, White makes solid contact with a sweep and sends it searing to the backward square-leg fence. the risk factor of that stroke was high but he made it look easy.

  •

    Over 61 Tremlett 0-W-0-1-0-0

186-4 - Wicket! Strauss plucks a blinding catch out of the air at first slip. Hughes cut hard and the resulting edge went quickly to Strauss, who reached above his head and to his right to make a two-handed grab. Hughes departs for 81, an innings that was a curious mixture of the sublime and the ridiculous. New batsman Tim Paine opens his account with a quick drop-and-run into the off-side.

  •

    Over 60 Panesar 0-0-0-1-0-0

185-3 - After a drinks break in Hobart, a refreshed Panesar produces a tidy over. Just a single for Hughes, punched down the ground off the back foot, from it.

  •

    Over 59 Tremlett 0-0-0-0-0-1

184-3 - England obviously think the best way to attack Hughes is from round-the-wicket as the seamers have bowled exclusively from that angle at him today. Hughes has to jam down hard on a defensive prod to keep out a ball that seamed back at him.

  •

    Over 58 Panesar 1-0-1-0-0-0

183-3 - The other major decision Australia's selectors had to make was regarding Mike Hussey. But Mr Cricket's century for Western Australia yesterday, coupled with the failures of his young rivals Usman Khawaja and Callum Ferguson in this match, made that an easy call. White pushes a single to mid-on and Hughes also rotates the strike, forcing the ball into the covers off the back foot as Panesar drops a touch too short.

  •

    Over 57 Tremlett 1-2-4-0-0-0

181-3 - So what do you make of Australia's decision to leave out Nathan Hauritz for the Ashes opener? His absence means either leg-spinner Smith or uncapped left-armer Xavier Doherty will play in Brisbane. My money's on Doherty, particularly as Kevin Pietersen's struggles against left-arm spin continued in this match when he was dismissed by Steven O'Keefe on day two. I think Hauritz is unlucky, he's no world beater but is probably Australia best spinner. Doherty has not exactly set the world alight in first-class cricket. Agree? Disagree? Let me know at graham.mair@bskyb.com. Meanwhile in Hobart, Hughes drives through extra cover for his 11th four. Tremlett has not found a consistent line or length during his first two overs.

  •

    Over 56 Panesar 0-0-0-3-0-0

174-3 - Spin for the first time today in the shape of Panesar. And it's a good opening over, mixing up his pace. White, who has a reputation for murdering spin bowling, only just clears Shahzad at mid-on after advancing to drive. Not convincing.

  •

    Over 55 Tremlett 1-0-3-0-0-0

171-3 - Tremlett is into the attack for the first time today. White drives wide of mid-on for three to complete his 33rd first-class half-century (68b, 7x4).

  •

    Over 54 Shahzad 0-4-1-0-0-0

167-3 - White drives just to the on-side of straight for his seventh boundary. The Australia A skipper is a difficult man to bowl at when he gets going - very powerful, finds the boundary with ease. His side trail by 126.

  •

    Over 53 Bresnan 3-0-0-0-4-0

161-3 - White clips off his pads for three as Bresnan strays onto leg-stump. Hughes edges a drive wide of the solitary slip and away to the third-man boundary - that would have gone straight to second slip, Strauss pays the price for his conservatism.

  •

    Over 52 Shahzad 0-0-1-0-0-0

154-3 - Australia's squad for the Ashes opener is: Ponting (capt), Watson, Katich, Clarke, Hussey, North, Haddin (wkt), Johnson, Doherty, Siddle, Hilfenhaus, Bollinger, S Smith. The big news is that Nathan Hauritz has been overlooked - meaning either Xavier Doherty or Steve Smith will provide the spin option at the Gabba. Mike Hussey, as expected after his century yesterday, keeps his place. Hauritz, Usman Khawaja, Callum Ferguson and Ryan Harris are the four to be dropped from the original 17.

  •

    Over 51 Bresnan 0-0-1-1-0-0

153-3 - Hughes gets a single behind square on the leg-side and White picks up one to backward point. Australia are due to trim their squad from the Ashes opener from 17 to 13 names shortly. Will keep you posted.

  •

    Over 50 Shahzad 4-0-0-1-0-0

151-3 - Hughes, who may be needed by Australia in Brisbane next week if Simon Katich fails to recover from a shoulder injury, edges a drive down to the third-man boundary - safe enough as it went all along the ground and there is only one slip in place anyway. Fair to say Strauss isn't going overboard with his field settings - but then his captaincy approach is generally quite conservative.

  •

    Over 49 Bresnan 0-0-1-4-0-0

146-3 - White is a much better batsman when he looks to play his shots. He finds the cover boundary with a force off the back foot, it reached the fence even though a fielder managed to parry it. Kevin Pietersen was the man to get a hand on it and he has now left the field to get some treatment clutching his right hand. Eoin Morgan is on as sub fielder, hopefully Pietersen's injury is not serious...

  •

    Over 48 Shahzad 1-1-0-0-0-0

140-3 - Australia A will probably have to bat into the evening session if they are to save this game - they have a fairly long batting line-up so it's definitely possible. White and Hughes each pick off a single into the leg-side as Shahzad gets it too straight.

  •

    Over 47 Bresnan 0-0-1b-0-0-0

139-3 - Bresnan is generating some inswing (possibly reverse - not sure) this morning and he has been right on the money. Bresnan is also going round-the-wicket to Hughes with the same field as Shahzad - just a slip and a gully in close. One ball later and England captain Andrew Strauss decides to bring in a second gully - in addition to a man at backward point. Hughes scored a lot of his runs yesterday in that area and England have obviously had a think about it overnight.

  •

    Over 46 Shahzad 0-0-0-0-0-0

138-3 - Yorkshire seam from both ends as Shahzad joins Bresnan in the attack. Just a slip and a gully in place for the left-handed Hughes with Shahzad operating from round-the-wicket. Hughes is content to have a look, except for one crashing cut which goes along the ground straight to the man at backward point.

  •

    Over 45 Bresnan 4-0-4-0-2-0

138-3 - Bresnan almost makes the breakthrough with the first ball of the day, White getting a leading edge down to the third-man boundary - he would have been stone dead lbw had he missed it. Kept a bit low - not a good sign for Australia A. White finds the boundary again later in the over - but again it is lucky as this time an inside edge goes past the leg-stump and away to fine-leg.

    Conditions

The good news for Australia A is that the sun is out today and the pitch, although the odd one kept low last evening, remains on the whole good for batting. England could have to work hard for their wickets. Bresnan, who took all three to fall yesterday, is at the end of his run and we're all set...

    Victory push

England are in a strong position to press for a morale-boosting victory in their final warm-up match before next week's Ashes opener in Brisbane. Australia A are due to resume on 128-3, still 165 behind. Phil Hughes (58no) and Cameron White (22no) are the unbeaten batsmen overnight and will be making their way to the middle in just under half-and-hour. There is plenty of batting for them still to do if the home side are to salvage a draw.
