130-2 - Amla near gives his wicket away. He goes for a pull but ends up skying it. Luckily for him it goes over the head of mid-off. Dropped! Amla mistimes another wrong 'un and this time it goes straight to long-off. Nicol makes a mess of it and Amla survives. Insult to injury as Nethula's wide down the leg-side runs away for four. You can see Nethula is hurting as he overpitches and gets hammered through extra cover.
118-2 - Southee gets excited as Amla plays a full toss off middle stump to square leg. Duminy picks up three with a pull shot. Short and pulled for a boundary by Duminy.
109-2 - Amla works it to the man on the cover boundary for a single. Close! Duminy looks to paddle it, but gets a top edge and it goes in the air. McCullum runs to his left, but it's well out of his reach.
106-2 - McCullum needs wickets and decides to bring Southee back into the attack. Single to Duminy while Amla pulls for yet another boundary.
100-2 - We will have some spin now as Tarun Nethula comes into the attack. The leg-spinner is greeted with a boundary as Amla slaps it through point. Amla picks up a couple of singles to go to 50 from 51 balls. The South African century comes up with a single down the ground.
92-2 - Amla picks up one to the sweeper patrolling the cover boundary. An inside edge from Duminy flies through square leg.
89-2 - Ellis and McKay have managed to drag things back the past two overs. Duminy takes advantage of the big gap through midwicket. Amla looks to drive and gets a thick edge down to third man. Short and pulled to the deep backward square leg fence for four.
83-1 - Full toss and Duminy clips it away for two. Referral! Excellent delivery from McKay as Duminy plays all around a straighter one. The umpire thinks it is good and gives him out. Duminy is confident he hit it and immediately goes for the referral. Hot Spot shows he hit it. That's why we have technology. Worked through square leg for one.
80-2 - Amla runs it down to third man. Beauty from Ellis as his bouncer hits Du Plessis on the grill. WICKET! Easy as you like from Guptill on the fence. Du Plessis decides to take on another shorter one from Ellis but he skies it down to deep square leg. Guptill catches it right on the rope and just as he is about to go over the fence, he pops it gently back up before comes back into the field of play to reclaim the catch. They want another look at it, but that was brilliantly done. JP Duminy is the new batsman in.
79-1 - The punishment continues as Du Plessis strokes it through extra cover. Overpitched and driven for yet another boundary. South Africa have already hit 13 boundaries in their innings. Make that 14 as it beats the diving fielder at mid-on. Du Plessis gets away with one. He mistimes his pull, but it falls in no-man's land in the midwicket region.
63-1 - Bowling change as Andrew Ellis is into the attack. Tidy medium pacer that will be looking to dry the runs up. Du Plessis is not interested in that plan and he uses his feet to go airborne for four. It went high and bounced short of the long-off boundary. After a quick single from Du Plessis, Amla opens the face of the bat and runs it to third man for four.
54-1 - Amla really looks like he is in a hurry to finish this game early. He looks to flat bat it down the ground, but gets a bottom edge to it. Wow a maiden!
54-1 - Good shot from Du Plessis, but the man at mid-off does well to keep it down to a single. A tad short and Amla flicks it through square leg. McKay puts his body on the line to save one. That brings up the South African half-century. Yet another boundary as Du Plessis gets it past cover.
46-1 - McCullum makes his first move as he brings Andy McKay into the attack. Du Plessis works the wrists to get it to third man for a single. Smashed through cover by Amla. That was hit really hard.
41-1 - New Zealand need to drag things back here. Quickly! On the legs and worked through midwicket for three by Du Plessis. Nice bouncer and Amla looks to go after it, but he doesn't get bat to it. Two more through midwicket.
36-1 - Du Plessis gets in on the act as he smashes a half-volley through extra cover. Flurry of boundaries for the South Africans. Misfield from Ellis at cover gives Du Plessis a single. Four more as Amla runs it past the bowler. Wow! Next one is crashed wide of point. It really is raining fours at the moment.
23-1 - Width and Amla punishes him through extra cover. Shorter one from Southee but Amla simply leans back and allows it go through to the keeper. Timed down to fine leg for four more. Twelve from the over as the final ball is hit through the covers.
11-1 - Wide and short from Mills and Amla cuts through cover for a boundary. Straight down the ground from Kallis. That is one of the finest shots in the cricket manual. WICKET! Kallis goes next ball as he plays a lazy shot at a ball well outside off. He gets an inside edge and McCullum dives forward to take the catch. Kallis doesn't want to go as he's not sure if the keeper took a clean catch. They go upstairs and the replays show the batsman has to go. The in-form Faf du Plessis is promoted to No 3.
2-0 - Tim Southee starts things off from this end. The Kiwis desperately need to pick up a few early wickets. Kallis picks up a single to the leg-side. Amla is up and running with one to third man.
0-0 - Kyle Mills has the new ball in his hand. Interesting to see South Africa open with Kallis instead of Ontong. Plenty of experience at the top. Tidy start from Mills as he doesn't offer width. Amla is happy to see out a maiden.
South Africa are about to get their chase underway at McLean Park in Napier. Jacques Kallis will open the innings with Hashim Amla.
Brilliant comeback from South Africa after they looked in trouble early on. Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum hit half-tons during a century partnership, but once South Africa made the breakthrough the wickets kept tumbling. Morne Morkel was the man who did the business with his five-wicket haul. Join us again in about 30 minutes for the chase.
230 all out - Morne Morkel will send down the penultimate over of the innings. Flat batted down the ground, but Morkel gets a hand to it and it's only a couple. WICKET! All over as Morkel gets a five-wicket haul South Africa bowl New Zealand out. Ellis looks to go out of the ground but skies it to Steyn at long-on. That is that.
228-9 - Ellis looks like he is going after it now. He turns down a single from the first ball. He backs up his decision not to take a single by going down the ground for the maximum. He takes the single off the fourth ball to give the No 11 two balls.
221-9 - Ellis runs it past point for one. WICKET! Bit of extra bounce from Morkel (there's a surprise) and Southee looks to baseball bat it out of the park, but he doesn't get hold of it and Steyn takes the catch at mid-on. WICKET! Morkel is on another hat-trick as Tarun Nethula goes for a first-ball duck. He gets a gentle edge to the keeper. Andy McKay sees off hat-trick ball. Well it is more a case of Morkel not bowling a good ball. If it was on the stumps it would've given the batsman problems, but it was well outside off.
220-7 - Albie Morkel gets a bowl here. Southee picks up four with a thick edge wide of the keeper. Wow! Southee goes for a pull and, although it's a tad high on the bad, he clears the rope for six. Six more as he clips a ball on his pads over the fine leg fence.
202-7 - Steyn will bowl out here. Ellis gets an inside edge and comes back for a second. That brings up New Zealand's 200. Steyn finishes with one for 37.
198-7 - Ellis clips it through midwicket for a single. Finally a big hit from Southee as he goes down the ground for four.
192-7 - Steyn comes back for his penultimate over. Something's going to give soon, you feel. Southee will surely take on the bowlers? Short one and Southee does well to fend it off. It's a maiden.
192-7 - Worked around the ground for a couple of singles. The South Africans are really tightening their grip on things here.
189-7 - Kallis returns and Southee punches him through extra cover for two. Kallis mixes things up with a slower ball and beats Southee. Missed run-out chance! Hit straight to cover and it's yes, no, yes. The fielder just has to hit, but he doesn't.
186-7 - Peterson comes back. De Villiers is looking for a couple of quick overs here. Worked through midwicket by Ellis. South Africa have really tightened the screws here. Southee is off the mark with a single to the sweeper on the cover boundary.
184-7 - The batting Powerplay is out of the way. The Kiwis scored 20 runs and lost five wickets in the five overs. Couple of singles to the total. WICKET! The Black Caps lose another one as Franklin drags it back onto his stumps. Bit of bounce from Morkel forces Franklin onto his toes, but he ends up chopping it onto his stumps. South Africa are into the bowlers as Kyle Mills strides in. WICKET! Morkel is on a hat-trick as Mills goes first ball. Short and Mills fends it off. Duminy dives forward from point to take the catch. That ball was right at the throat. Short one to Tim Southee, but there is no hat-trick.
182-5 - New Zealand's middle order have really let the likes of McCullum and Guptill down. They have not been able to build on the good platform that was laid. JP Duminy gets a bowl. Punched down to long-on for one by Ellis. Franklin picks up one to the same area.
180-5 - The Powerplay has worked out well for South Africa as they have picked up two wickets, including the crucial one of Brendon McCullum. Steyn is back into the attack. WICKET! Steyn gets in on the act as he picks up the wicket. Across Ryder and the foot movement is nowhere. He gets an edge through to the keeper. Andrew Ellis is the last recognised batsman in. Single to third man.
179-4 - Tsotsobe will bowl out here. WICKET! Another New Zealand batsman fail to get a big one. McCullum looks to flick it through the leg-side but he ends up picking out Justin Ontong at deep square leg fence. James Franklin comes in. He is off the mark with four through extra cover. Tsotsobe ends with thee for 43.
175-3 - Short spells for the bowlers and back on come Morne Morkel. An inside edge from McCullum goes down to third man and he picks up two. Four, this time thanks to a bottom edge. Four more as McCullum gets onto the back foot to pull through midwicket. It just fell short of the rope.
164-3 - Right, time for some action as McCullum has decided to take the bowling Powerplay. Tsotsobe is also back into the attack. Worked off the hip by the Kiwi skipper. WICKET! South Africa get another wicket when they were desperately looking for one. Williamson looks to go straight down the ground, but he skies it. Kallis runs back from mid-on to take a well judged catch over his head. Jesse Ryder joins his skipper in the middle. Quick single from McCullum.
162-2 - Steyn continues. Worked down to third man for a single by Williamson. McCullum takes a quick one down the ground before Williamson misses the ball after going for a pull shot.
160-2 - McCullum charges down the track, but it's shorter from Kallis and he misses the ball. Wow! Another short one and this time McCullum makes proper contact with a hook for six over deep backward square leg. McCullum charges again but it goes through to the keeper. Kallis thinks there is bat involved, but the umpire says not out. De Villiers tells his bowler it came off the pad.
153-2 - Steyn is back into the attack. He has been off colour today. McCullum gets pad to one down the leg-side and the Kiwis pick up four leg byes. That brings up the 150.
147-2 - Williamson gets onto his toes to push it wide of backward point for a couple. Kallis has done very well to stop the boundaries.
143-2 - McCullum works it to fine leg and he is looking for two, but the fielding is good and it is just a single.
141-2 - Williamson picks up three with a pull shot and a single through the covers. McCullum also goes through the covers for one. Dropped! Kallis draws an edge from Williamson, but Duminy - who is standing at a widish third slip - can only get fingertips to it.
135-2 - Morne Morkel is back into the attack. McCullum picks up a single to third man to bring new man Kane Williamson on strike. Williamson times it down the ground and comes back for a third.
131-2 - Here he is then. First bowl for Jacques Kallis. Worked behind point for a couple. Short and pulled for a boundary. WICKET! Kallis gets the breakthrough for his captain, but Guptill will kick himself after that dismissal. He looks to open the face of the bat to guide it down to third man, but gets a thick edge to the keeper.
124-1 - Tidy stuff from Tsotsobe, but the two singles bring up the 100-run partnership between Guptill and McCullum. Jacques Kallis is warming up so we could see him on in a bit.
122-1 - Peterson will continue despite that poor over. Not a good start as he tosses it up and Guptill hammers it through extra cover. McCullum sweeps for a couple and that takes him to 50 from 53 balls.
113-1 - South Africa need a wicket and De Villiers brings Tsotsobe back into the attack. Good stuff from the Kiwis as they work it away for a couple of singles. The final single through square leg takes Guptill to 50 from 63 balls.
110-1 - These two batsmen are both in their 40s and they have a very good platform here. Buffet ball and Guptill hammers it through extra cover for four. That brings up the Kiwis' 100. Short and McCullum pulls through midwicket for the first six of the match. Big, big over for New Zealand and the pressure is now on the South African attack.
98-1 - De Villiers is changing things all the time. Steyn comes back. Guptill gets on his toes and hits Steyn through cover for a boundary. Couple of hits and misses from McCullum. Missed chance! Drop and go from Guptill. The man at cover has a shy at the stumps, but misses. He would've been gone.
92-1 - Change of ends for the spinner. It sits up from Peterson and McCullum gives himself a bit of room and slaps it through the covers for four. Another leading edge from McCullum falls short of the bowler.
86-1 - Morne Morkel replaces Peterson. Single down to third man for Guptill. Comfortable two as McCullum pulls the final ball.
83-1 - AB de Villiers brings Steyn back into the attack. Slapped hard into the ground by McCullum, but the fielding from Du Plessis in the covers is brilliant and he gets no runs for his effort. Poor stuff from Steyn as he bowls down the leg-side and McCullum helps it on its way with fine leg inside the rope. Followed up by a short one outside off and McCullum gives it the treatment it deserves. Time for drinks.
75-1 - Things are likely to get interesting as South Africa have decided to take their bowling Powerplay. Will the batsmen take on the spinner. Guptill runs it down the ground. Peterson is giving the batsmen plenty to think about.
73-1 - A couple of misfields from JP Duminy give the Kiwi batsmen a couple of singles. Timing from Guptill as he opens the face of the bat and pushes it down the ground for a boundary. It sits up and Guptill goes for a pull. He doesn't time it and shouts 'oh no', but it falls short of the fielder on the boundary.
66-1 - We will have some left-arm spin now as Robin Peterson comes into the attack. The two Kiwi batsmen pick up three singles, but it is a well controlled over from the spinner.
63-4 - Albie Morkel is into the attack and he is greeted by a boundary as Guptill clips it through midwicket.
61-2 - Third man cuts off a punch past backward point from Guptill. Cut away for four. McCullum gets away with another one. It's short and he turns his back to it, but the ball ends up hitting his bat and flies over the slips for a boundary.
51-1 - Tsotsobe initially starts well, but he goes slightly short and McCullum punishes him through cover with a boundary. That brings up the hosts' half-century. Dropped! Full and McCullum chips it down the ground. It's straight to the bowler and into the hands, but out she goes again.
47-1 - Morkel keeps McCullum on the back foot early in the over which leads to an inevitable swing and miss. And again! That's the first maiden of the day.
47-1 - McCullum decides to show some aggression and he throws the kitchen sink at one. He gets a top edge that flies down to third man. The fielder is not sure if he should go for it and in the end if falls a couple of metres short and runs away for a boundary. Tsotsobe hits back one at a perfect length that goes past the edge. Ouch! McCullum slaps it through extra cover.
34-1 - Early bowling change sees Morne Morkel on for Steyn. He could get some bounce with his height. Worked through midwicket. McCullum gets one past backward point. Short and wide and cut over point for a boundary.
32-1 - WICKET! I was just about to say that there's not much happening for the bowlers here and then Tsotsobe does the business for South Africa. Nicol looks to clip it to the on-side, but misses the ball and is trapped right in front. The umpire wants to have a look at the no-ball, but Tsotsobe was behind the line. Brendon McCullum, playing in his 200th ODI, is the new man and he is greeted with one that bounces. He has to jump to play at it. McCullum is off the mark with a dodgy single to third man. It was wide and his bat was just hanging out there. Now Guptill gets away with it as an inside edge just misses the stumps and rolls away for three. Guptill has the final laugh of the over as he clips it over midwicket for a boundary.
24-0 - Nicol stamps his authority as he uses his feet hammer it down the ground for four. He nearly took Guptill out at the non-striker's end. Tucked off the hip.
19-0 - Tsotsobe seems to have learned his lesson from the previous over as he keeps things close to the stumps. The only change that Guptill gets out of him is two through square leg.
17-0 - Silly stuff from Nicol as he marches down the track for a wild swing and miss. Steyn goes past the outside edge with one that holds its line. Ouch! Slightly shorter and Nicol takes it on the shoulder.
16-0 - Width and slashed past backward point for four. You can't afford to do that at this level. Short and pulled away. Again, you can't afford to do that. That one just sat up for the in-form Nicol.
8-0 - Dale Steyn is the man to get the other new ball. Two slips in for him as well and the man at second slip nearly comes into play straight away. Wide and Nicol goes after it. He gets a thick edge that flies wide of Jacques Kallis's outstretched hand. Another iffy shot from Nicol as he gets squared up. It goes through gully for a single. Steyn is too wide and the umpire has some early exercise to do. The final ball is clipped to the leg-side for one.
1-0 - Lonwabo Tsotsobe has one of the new balls in his hand and Rob Nicol is the man on strike. Two slips in place. Tucked off the hip to deep backward square leg for a single. Tidy stuff from the left-hander as there was nothing wide.
New Zealand's two openers have made their way out to the middle where the South African team await them.
Happy that Graeme Smith is not playing? Will New Zealand win? Keep me entertained through the morning by dropping an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Graeme Smith is out (somewhere in South Africa a lot of people are celebrating) injured and is replaced by Justin Ontong. New Zealand make two changes with Andy McKay and Tarun Nethula replacing Doug Bracewell and Nathan McCullum respectively.
It's a brilliant day in Napier. It looks like a 300 wicket, according to Barry Richards. The short boundary will play a big role today.
Brendon McCullum spins the coin and AB de Villiers calls 'heads'. De Villiers wins the toss and will bowl first. 'It's a beautiful wicket and it's tough to defend on'. McCullum is happy to bat first as he would've batted anyway.
...New Zealand took a bit of a hiding in that first ODI, didn't they? At one stage they had South Africa under pressure but then AB de Villiers took charge and took his side to a comfortable victory by six wickets. Will the Kiwis rock up today? All will be revealed in the next seven hours or so. Good thing MS Dhoni is not skipper for one of these two teams as it would've probably taken more than 10 hours to settle.
Yes, the clock is just about to strike 2.30am in South Africa and I am still asleep. Hope you had a good night's rest, because I sure didn't. Hopefully the two teams will put up a great display and make it worthwhile being up at this ungodly hour.
Welcome to our live over-by-over coverage of the second ODI between New Zealand and South Africa at McLaren Park in Napier.
