Malinga starts with a wide down leg side, Sanga tries to appeal to discourage the umpire from calling it a wide but fails. Sri Lanka started well with Tharanga and Mahela, then Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the early breakthroughs for India. Sangakkara and Thirimanne built a slow but important 100-run partnership and at one point SL looked like they would finish with a score close to 300. India struck and kept striking to make sure Sri Lanka did not get into a strong position. Sri Lanka finished with 201 all out, Jadeja picking up 4 wicket for India.
Jadeja continues in the second last over of the innings. Sri Lanka are at least 30 runs short of where they could have been as India have pulled things back well. WICKET! Dhoni gets an easy stumping and the batsman does not bother to come back in his crease. Dhoni completes the stumping and SL are all out for 201, another good performance by India.
Sharma starts his 8th over. A good performance from India, SL collapsing after Thirimanne and Sangakkara put together a 100-run partnership. Almost a wicket, a difficult chance and Rohit misses it. Sri Lanka 200 after 48 overs.
A couple of wickets in a hurry, Herath stumped by Dhoni and then Malinga top edges one high in the air and Bhuvi takes a good running catch. Three overs to go and Jadeja finishes a 2 wicket maiden

WICKET! Sanga hits it straight to mid on, Ashwin pauses in his run up to interrupt Sanga's flow and Vinay Kumar takes a good catch to send Sanga back in the hut. Kusal Perera comes in ahead of Chandimal. WICKET! Ashwin bowls it wide and spins it away, Perera comes down the wicket and misses and Dhoni does the rest. Perera stumped, SL lose their 5th and the powerplay brings more wickets. Chandimal walks out to bat, captain and vice-captain at the crease. End of the 40th over, SL 177 for 5.
A shout for a stumping but Mathews is well inside his crease. A good ball from Jadeja, just spinning enough to beat the outside edge of Mathews' bat. A good over for India.
There is no one at third man and Sangakkara top edges the ball there and gets a boundary. Sanga made his intentions clear and now just walks across and gets a easy boundary at square leg, a solid and risk free shot. Sharma is receiving the Sanga treatment as this ball is confidently hit out of the park for a six. WICKET! Sharma gets a wicket, Thirimanne gets a top edge and Bhuvi at mid off takes a good catch. India finally break this partnership.
Ashwin continues, Sanga sweeps it between square leg and fine leg for a handsome boundary. Sanga looking to accelerate, hits it well, but there is a fielder at midwicket.
Sharma brought back into the attack. Thirimanne slashes it wide of third man and gets a boundary. Another boundary at third man, this was an edge but there were no slips. Sri Lanka should look to attack now, if they lose a wicket the new batsman will have some time to settle down. Thirimanne takes a single, bringing up the 100 run partnership, solid work by these two.
Ashwin continues and Sanga continues to work him on the leg side for a single. Ashwin makes it pitch and spin, great ball, only thing missing was Sanga's edge. After 35 SL are 141 for 2.
Jadeja worked away for a couple of singles, SL trying to play him carefully as he is effective in this part of the innings. Sanga plays it fine to short fine leg and gets a single to get his 50, well compiled half century. Thirimanne sweeps and sweeps well to the fine leg boundary, he is in a bit of pain as he recovers from the sweep. SL 138 for 2.
Sanga looks to smash this one down the ground, Ashwin cleverly pauses in his run up and bowls it wider of off stump. Sanga trying the unsettle Ashwin by moving his feet before the ball was bowled, interesting fight between spin and a quality batsman.

Sanga sweeps well and gets a boundary, then Ashwin bowls a wide and it goes for four too. It is turning out to be another good over for SL. 11 from the over, the over all run rate moving towards 4.
Raina is going through his overs quickly. Thirimanne sweeps and does well to get it to the square leg boundary. There may be a bowling change soon as Raina is being a bit expensive here. Chance of run out but Sanga says no and Thirimanne gets back in time. Sanga sweeps it fine and gets a four from the last ball. Another good shot, this pair handling spin well.
This partnership is now 41 runs, Ashwin creating some pressure with consistently turning the ball. Just one from the over, a good one from Ashwin. SL moving along at less than 3.5 per over.
Sanga gets the outside edge on that ball, and it falls short of Ashwin at first slip. Replays show it hit the pad rather than the bat. Sanga wanted to play it through the covers but only manages to get a top edge on it to get it to long off. After 26, SL 92 for 2.
Ashwin rushes through another over, Six runs from it. This pair settling down very well at the crease, India will be looking to get a wicket soon.
Raina tries to stop the ball, then tries to avoid a single by hugging the non-striker and pushing him sideways, Thirimanne is not impressed. After 24 overs, SL are 82 for 2. Good partnership building here.
Ashwin finally, comes into the attack. Turn straightaway for Ashwin, Thirimanne plays inside the line. Sanga sweeps and chips it on the leg side for a couple. After 23, SL are 79 for 2.
Raina drops it short and it is easily worked away for four through midwicket by Sanga, easy shot from a poor ball. Six from the over, SL building a partnership.
Kohli bowls a wide one and Sanga works him through the covers for a single. That one goes through everyone, a wide down the leg side and Sanga tries to hit it but misses, it goes to fine leg for four. A good over for SL, 9 from it.
Raina brought into the attack, medium pace favoured by Dhoni. He is keeping the spinners for the end of the innings. A bit of turn for Raina as Thirimanne tries to get him away for a few runs. A shout for lbw as Thirimanne tries to play across the line and misses. The height was a factor there, good decision from the umpire. Just a single from the over, SL 62 for 2 after 20.

A change of ends for Sharma. Dropped! Ashwin generally takes those but palms it to the ground, Thirimanne gets a life. Another good over for India just two from it.

Sharma continues. Ishant seems to be struggling with his bowling foot, umpires call drinks. Sharma comes back and finishes his over, a maiden it is.
Bhuvi strikes again, Mahela looking to hit this one through the covers, manages to get a top edge on it and Ashwin takes a good catch in the slips. Mahela goes for 22. Vinay starts the last over of the power play. He has maintained the pressure by keeping the runs down. A chance of a run out as the stumps are disturbed but Sanga was well inside and safe.

It was a good over until then, Mahela playing in his 400th ODI plays it straight down the ground for four. A good shot to make it six from the over.
Another edge flies down the fine leg for a boundary, the ball was angling down the leg side and Tharanga plays the leg glance for four. A better over by Kumar, but still inconsistent. Just four from the over, SL 21 for no loss after 5 overs.

Karthik slips in the outfield as Tharanga picks up a couple. Bhuvi to gets his line right, pitching it wicket to wicket, Tharanga get a single to third man, then Mahela comes down the wicket and edges it to third man for a single. Vinay Kumar who plays for Bangalore in the IPL, comes on to bowl. Vinay begins with a good line, angling the ball into Mahela. Mahela blocks out a maiden.
