Win Signed Merchandise from Cycling Star Chris Hoy

2008 National Year of Reading

2008 National Year of Reading

Have you ever wondered what motivates sports stars to train for hours each day? Ever considered what helps them focus on reaching their goals? Well, personalities from all corners of the sporting world - from British Olympic heroes to English cricketers, international rugby players and powerboat racing champions - have come together to support the "Personal Best" campaign from The National Year of Reading, sharing the words that inspired them most in their successful careers. And YOU could win two unique pieces of signed merchandise from one of the big names backing the programme.

The National Year of Reading is all about reading more of what you love, whether that's football programmes, the back pages of your newspaper or your favourite sports blogs. 'Personal Best' has been given exclusive access to the inspirational reads behind some of our nation's most successful sports stars - with interesting results as diverse as quotes from Muhammad Ali and the sci fi classic Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy to song lyrics from the Bluetones. Bradford Bulls rugby league star Wayne Godwin chose a quote from the legendary Muhammad Ali - "champions aren't made in the gyms, champions are made from something they have deep down inside them - a desire, a dream, a vision" - explaining that he first came across the quote when he was a junior player and it has inspired him ever since and carried him through his career.

One of the British sports stars supporting the National Year of Reading is multiple world champion and Olympic Games gold medal winner Chris Hoy, and you could win a great prize of a framed photograph of Chris and a copy of Graeme Obree's candid autobiography, 'Flying Scotsman', both signed by Chris. Little-known Graeme Obree became international cycling's most unlikely star in the 1990s and Chris says: "The book is an incredibly open, honest and inspiring account of how Graeme battled depression yet managed to become a world champion and world record holder."
