Bell says England will keep attacking Australia in one-day series

It's been disappointing...but again we've shown some good things in these two games and hopefully when we're playing this aggressive style of cricket we'll find the gap next time.

Ian Bell says England will continue their attacking approach despite losing the first two one-day internationals against Australia.

England went down by 46 runs in Hobart on Friday, the second successive time in the seven-match series when they have lost from a seemingly winning position.

Bell admits that soft dismissals cost them the game in Hobart, as they were bowled out for just 184 when playing too many attacking strokes and losing wickets at crucial times.

A more considered approach may have seen England home, with Bell and Jonathan Trott, who both made 32, in particular getting themselves out when looking well set.

Such an attacking approach has driven England to six consecutive series victories in 50-over cricket though, and Bell says they will keep the same philosophy as they look to improve heading into the World Cup.

Aggressive

"We've had a lot of success in the past 12-18 months in one-day cricket by playing aggressive cricket," Bell said. "We don't want to stop doing that.

"When you go with the aggressive side of the game you are always going to make the odd mistake. Again credit to Australia, I thought they bowled well at times against us.

"There have been a couple of dismissals we would like to cut out, you don't really want too many caught at cover.

"It's been disappointing to that extent but again we've shown some good things in these two games and hopefully when we're playing this aggressive style of cricket we'll find the gap next time."

England's six-series success has led to them being one of the World Cup favourites, but Australia have sneaked into a 2-0 lead in the series so far.

Frustration

Bell admits England have been frustrated to have twice let the Aussies off the hook, especially in Hobart when they reduced the hosts to 142-8 only to allow them to scrape a winning score of 230.

"Definitely it's disappointing. We were getting ourselves back into a good position to win the game," Bell added.

"I think our bowlers did a great job up front. They have done every well in both games.

"It was disappointing with the bat again that we got partnerships started but we didn't get that big partnership that you need in a one-day international to see the game through.

"There were some good things to come out of it, but they're two games we could possible have won and we've lost both."

England and Australia lock horns again on Sunday when they play out the third one-day international in Sydney.
