Bollinger has enjoyed more than the odd champagne moment during a remarkable rise from journeyman professional to leader of Australia's bowling attack.
The burly left-arm seamer made his first-class debut for New South Wales as long ago as the 2002/03 season but was a peripheral figure even at state level for several years.
His development was initially slow. A forgettable spell was spent as Worcestershire's overseas player in 2007 before a big breakthrough came during the following Australian summer, when he finished as the leading first-class wicket taker with 45 scalps despite missing the last three games with a broken foot.
Those performances earned a late call-up to the tour of West Indies and, although he did not play in the internationals, he was by now firmly on the selectors' radar.
A Test debut followed on his home ground of the SCG on New Year's Day of 2009, where Bollinger promised to give "150,000 percent" before taking two wickets in the second innings as South Africa were beaten by 103 runs.
The 29-year-old has since been a first-choice member of the Test attack and has also forced his way into the one-day and T20 reckoning, helped by an impressive IPL stint for the Chennai Super Kings.
Bollinger's angle and ability to swing the new ball both ways have proved the undoing of a succession of established international batsmen.
He has plundered 49 wickets in 11 Tests, popping up with five-wicket hauls against West Indies in Perth and New Zealand in Wellington.
Never one to be accused of being a natural athlete, Bollinger's increased workload has led to injury problems and he missed the second Test and one-day series on the recent tour of India due to a stomach muscle strain.
