India clinch World Cup
Patel combines with his captain in crucial unbroken stand of 130
Skipper Unmukt Chand led from the front with an unbeaten ton as India clinched the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup with a six-wicket win over Australia.
Opener Chand hit seven fours and six sixes in his 111 not out to see his side reach their target of 226 with 14 balls to spare at Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville.
The captain shared a crucial unbroken stand of 130 for the fifth wicket with Smit Patel, who finished up on 62 not out. The pair had come together with their team in real trouble, India slumping from 75-1 to 97-4 at one stage.
Australia skipper William Bosisto had also played a key role with the bat earlier in the day, hitting an unbeaten 87 to lay the foundations for their 225-8.
The host nation themselves had slumped to 38-4 before Bosisto and Travis Head (37) got the innings back on track with a partnership worth 65.
Ashton Turner weighed in with 43 from 50 balls in the closing stages before he fell to Shandeep Sharma, the seamer finishing as the the pick of the Indian bowlers with figures of 4-54 from his 10 overs.
