As good as it gets
Our man Down Under attempts to describe the greatest day of his life after England retained the Ashes
By Joe Drabble Last updated: 29th December 2010
Out of all my blogs to-date, this has undoubtedly been the hardest to write. I am speechless at the moment.
To my right I have England players in a line pretending to be sprinklers, to my left I can see a family with a St George flag in tears of joy, and straight in front I see Ricky Ponting looking up to the heavens.
Today has to be the greatest day of my life.
All the days and hours I spent watching England get utterly annihilated by Australia over the years have now been erased from my mind as I can now say: I was there when we retained the Ashes Down Under!
It's been no fluke either - we battered them in Adelaide and mauled them here in Melbourne. The Perth defeat was a mere aberration.
Only three wickets were required today following a nasty injury to Ryan Harris and the England fans arrived especially early to take their seats. I'm still waiting for the Aussies to arrive...
I took my pew behind a man holding an inflatable swan and in front of a gentleman with a Monty Panesar wig. It really was a non-stop party in the Southern Stand of this massive ground today.
Chris Tremlett got the ball rolling with the wicket of the man England fans love to hate - Mitchell Johnson. The send off he received was as spectacular as it gets!
Brad Haddin and Peter Siddle flung the bat, however as entertaining as it was, it was never going to stop England marching to victory.
The scenes that greeted the final wicket can't be described by words alone. I have plenty of pictures and videos on my Twitter account and only they can do it justice.
Make sure you check them out @DrabsDownUnder.
England have handed me another day off tomorrow, I think I'm going to need it!
See you in Sydney!
