Zimbabwe win by 161 runs Kenya were never in ths match - losing wickets regularly and scoring at a very slow rate. Good performance from the Zimababwean spinners who extracted quite a bit from this wicket and hit all the right areas.
Over 36 Cremer 1-0-0-0-0-W 147-10 Struck down the ground for a single bu Odhiambo. Ngoche faces the music now and he survives an LBW appeal that really should have been much more confident. Given nto out but no one seemed convinced. Replays suggest the ball was hitting leg stump. Out! Zimbabwe win by 161 runs! Ngoche picks a full ball up nicely - swinging it towards midwicket but Chris Mpofu's waiting for it there and he makes no mistake.
Over 35 Utseya 4-4-1-0-0-0 146-9 - Gosh but that's well hit! Reverse sweep from Odhiambo and he finds the gap behind point. And he follows that up with a lofted drive over the covers for four more! Making good use of the powerplay. Ngoche's first ball of the over is driven powerfully back to Prosper Utseya who stops comfortably.
Over 34 1-0-6-0-0-0 137-9 - Here's the batting powerplay. Odhiambo clearly has a plan here. He shapes to cut a flat one and he's struck on the pad before he can get his bat on it. Not out says the umpire who must have had doubt about over what the ball struck first. Ngoche - the Kenyan number 11 - traipses down the track and lofts the ball beautifully over long on for six.
Over 33 Utseya 1-0-1-1-0-2 130-9 - Propser's back. Odhiambo clubs him down the ground for a single first up. Ngoche keeps him out with a resolute front-foot defense. He then works the ball past Price at slip for two runs to third man.
Over 32 Cremer 0-W-0-0-0-1wd-0 125-9 - Gone! Lovely fielding from captain Elton Chigumbura. Swoops down on the ball from cover and flings the ball into the stumps at the striker's end. Taibu is confident and replays confirm Otieno was short of the crease.
Over 31 Mpofu 4-1-1-1-0 124-8 - Pace now as Christopher Mpofu takes over from Lamb. Lovely inswinging yorker fist up and the bastman has no clue how to deal with it. Odhiambo goes for the drive but the ball takes the inside edge of his bat and runs away fine for four runs. Nice over from Mpofu, despite it costing his team 7 runs.
Over 30 Cremer 0-0-0-0-0-1 117-8 - Nicely cut to cover but Odhiambo finds the man there. No run. Huge appeal for LBW again after Odhiambo attempts the reverse sweep. Umpire Dharmesena says no. There's a review coming up and it's clearly pitched outside leg stump. Good umpiring. Wow that's a terrific delivery. On a length that demands a defensive shot, but the ball bites the pitch ans spins past the outside edge. Lovely ball from the wrist spinner.
Over 29 Lamb 0-1-0-0-0-0 116-8 - Panic stations for Kenya now. They're thowing the bat at everything. Not making contact often enough though.
Over 28 Cremer 0-4-0-0-1-0 115-8 - Nice shot! Reverse sweep comes out and Odhiambo gets the ball away for four.
Over 27 Lamb 1-0-1-0-2-1 110-8 - Gosh that's lucky. Odhiambo's not going to go to bed wondering if he could have won this game for his country. He slog sweeps at a full one and only manages to get a top edge on it. The ball lands just in front of the man running in from the square leg boundary. Dropped! Odhiambo goes for another massive shot and skies it miles into the air. Ervine gets underneath it but lets it drop to the ground after juggling for a while.
Over 26 Cremer 6-W-0-1-1-2 105-8 - Peter Ongondo is the new man. Can he win it for Kenya? Can he play the greatest ODI innings in the history of the format? He starts promisingly enough; thrashing a full ball over extra cover for six. Nice! But he's gone next ball! Flatter and straighter delivery and he's struck plumb in front of his stumps. The game hurtling towards a Zimbabwean victory now.
Over 25 Lamb 0-0-1-0-4-W 95-7 - Top edged is found as the batsman tries the sweep and the ball lands agonisingly out of reach of Brandan Taylor who can't quite haul it in before crossing the rope. Out! But he's gone now! Going for the slog-sweep and he finds the middle of the bat. Sadly he also finds Chakabva on the midwicket boundary who takes a neat catch.
Over 24 Cremer 1-0-1-1-0-0 90-6 - Here's Graeme Cremer now. He gives the ball lots of air and both batsmen sweep him away for singles before Odhiambo nudges the ball away into the covers for a single. Huge appeal for a catch by Taibu! Although the bowler doesn't join him. Review is requested but it's going to be difficult to give out. Patel slashes hard at a wide one and Taibu is convinced there's a bottom edge. Not out.
Over 23 Utseya 4-0-0-3-1-1 87-6 - Odhiambo tees of in style this time. Looped up to him and he obliges with a nice little lofted straight drive for four. Nicely cut away for three runs from Odhiambo. Altough he's aided by some pretty terrible fielding at point.
Over 22 Lamb 0-0-0-0-1-0 78-6 - Odhiambo looks like he's windong on up but he decides to play a tame prod to the man at midwicket. Lamb giving it a lot of air - no doubt tempting the Kenyan allrounder to have a go. One run from the over.
Over 21 Utseya 0-0-1-1-2-0 77-6 - Here's Prosper again. He concedes a couple of runs down the ground. Before Patel plays a nice little paddle sweep to fine leg for two.
Over 20 Lamb 0-0-0-1-W-0 72-6 - No effort from Kenya to chase this score. Review! Umpire Dharmasena gives it not out but it looks extremely close to being out. Thomas Odoyo plays back to a ball that turns back into him and beats his bat. Struck in front and the only question is whether he got a snick on it. The third umpire says that's out! Nehemiah Odhiambo is the new man at the crease.
Over 19 Utseya 1-1-0-0-0-0 71-5 - Driven back firmly to the right of Prosper Uteya and he fields neatly off his own bowling. Two runs from the over.
Over 18 Lamb 0-4-1-0-0-0 69-5 - Beautifully driven! Full and a little bit of width and Patel drives through extra cover beyond the diving Taylor. Four runs.
Over 17 Utseya 0-0-4-0-1-1 64-5 - Here's Prosper Utseya again. He really wants to make the breakthrough. You can see it on his face. Sadly he gives the batsman a wide delivery which is dispatched to the cover boundary. Nice shot from Thomas Odoyo.
Over 16 Lamb 0-1-1-1-0-0 58-5 - Greg Lamb takes over from Price. Gets the first one to bite and bounce back into the right hander. Nice delivery. He can't make another breakthrough though but at least he manages keeps the run rate down to the required 7.3.
Over 15 Utseya 0-1-0-1-0-1 55-5 Last over of the bowling powerplay. Utseya dishes up a rank full toss but Odoyo has no idea what to do with it so he lamely pushes it past the bowler for a single. Odoyo then comes down the track and drives neatly down the ground again for a single.
Over 14 Price 0-0-0-0-0-W 52-5 - Price continues around the wicket and he's getting the ball to straighten nicely. Kenyan's doing their best to keep him out. And more than that! Four off the last delivery. On leg stump and he's nicely swept to the boundary.
Over 13 Utseya 0-0-0-0-4-0 48-5 Nicely punched down the ground! Wow - it looked like Odoyo just barely got that past the bowler but the ball races away from the fielder running in from long on. This outfield's a monster. Good value for well timed shots.
Over 12 Price 0-0-0-W-0-0 44-5 - Review! This is attrocious batting from Kenya. Given out LBW but there's doubt about whether the ball took bat or pad first. Clearly hitting the stumps and the third umpire agrees with Dharmasena. That is out. The ball probably took pad first and Obanda is history.
Over 11 Utseya 4-0-W-0-0-0 44-4 - Here comes Prosper Utseya. He gets the first over of the bowling powerplay. Nice shot for four runs fist up. Mishra sweeps hard and the man at backward square leg can't get down quick enough. Four runs. Out!But he's gone this time! Trying the same shot but he mistimes and the ball takes the edge of the bat - looping up to the man who misfielded moments earlier. Kenya in trouble now. A lot of trouble.
Over 10 Price 0-4lb-0-4-0-0 40-3 - Obanda gets his pad in the way and four runs is the result. Trying to sweep but only making contact with his leg. Nicely played this time! Cut through the covers for four runs after Price drops one short.
Over 9 Mpofu 0-4-1-0-0-0 Christopher Mpofu continues. He dishes up a short one and he's flat-batted down the ground for four. Ugly, ugly shot. But the scorers don't seem to mind. The over ends with an optimistic LBW appeal that Asoka de Silva turns down.
Over 8 Price 0-1-W-0-0-0 27-3 - Review and that looks out. Yes it is! Out.And that's end of Steve Tikolo's international cricket career. Struck plumb in front after trying to work the ball around to midwicket and not making contact. Nice moment as the Zimbabwean fielders clap him off. Tanmay Mishra's the new man. Let's see some fireworks! Not to be as Mishra practices his immaculate front foot defense. Solid!
Over 7 Mpofu - 1wd-1-0-1-0-0-0 26-2 Very short from Mpofu and Tikolo cuts him uppishly behind square for a single. Little else worth reporting other than Mpofu beating the outside edge with the last ball of the over.
Over 6 Price 4-0-0-0-0-0 23-2 - A hint of width and just a tad too short and Obanda drives handsomely off the back foot through the covers for four.
Over 5 Mpofu 0-4-0-0-4-0 19-2 - Terrific shot from Tikolo! Full and straight and the Kenyan cricket legend makes no mistake clipping it through midwicket for four runs. And an exact replica of the shot is played three balls later. Nice over for Kenya.
Over 4 Price 1-0-W-0-0-1 11-2 - Price continues with his probing deliveries outside the right handers' off stump. Out! Gone! Excellent fielding from the fielder at backward point and Collins Obuya's run out. Risky single but you have to credit Vusi Sibanda with that wicket - swooping down on the ball and hitting the stumps with the underarm diving throw. Steve Tikolo comes in to bat.
Over 3 Mpofu 0-4lb-0-1-1wd-0-0 9-1 - Too straight from the Zimbabwean seamer and the ball clips the batsman's pads and goes through for four leg byes. He throws down a bouncer later in the over that flies over Obuya's head. Taibu does well to jump up and prevent a boundary. Wide is called.
Over 2 Price 0-1-0-0-0-0 4-1 - Price, as has become the norm, shares the new ball alongside a seamer. His spin, as usual, is right on the money from the get-go, with a bit of extra bounce really testing the Kenyans.
Over 1 Mpofu 2-0-1-0-W-0 3-1 - Wicket! Back in the side and with immediate impact, the seamer has to wait a bit longer for the scalp of Obuya as non-striker Obanda insists his team-mate perhaps ask for a review in the wake of the lbw decision. Perhaps Obanda's thinking was that a gamble was worth it as the call was made by the oft-incorrect de Silva, but in the end sanity prevails as both Kenyans decide that it was plumb enough in front to not refer it. Rightly so. Early blow for Kenya. Big boost for Zimbabwe. Collins in now.
Kenya's Chase All and sundry out in the middle again and good to go. Obanda and Obuya to open the batting. Strap in for the ride, folks.
End of the Zimbabwe innings Excellent play from the Zimbabwe middle and late order takes them to a score that will take something extremely special to reach. At one point 260 was looking unlikely but Chigumbura, Ervine, Utseya and Lamb managed to find the middle fo the bat as well as the gaps in the field. I believe that's what the kids are calling a 'well paced' innings nowadays.
Over 50 Otieno 6-4-4-4-1b-1 308-6 Wow! Maximum. Short ball and Prosper gets a strange hook/sweep shot out and the ball sails over the backward square boundary rope! Utseya follows up a lovely clip to midwicket that goes for four with a smash that sends a full toss back over the bowler's head for four. Great over so far for Zimbabwe. A nightmare for Otieno continues as he dishes up a full ball outside off that Utseya was looking to sweep. But the bastman adjusts perfectly and flips the ball deliberately over the vacant slip cordon for four. Incredible shot. Terrififc last over for Zimbabwe!
Over 49 Odhiambo 1-1-0-2-6-2 288-6 Lamb gets one out of the screws - pulling the ball powerfully to the man on the midwicket boundary. Nice shot for only one run. Slow bouncer is nicely picked up by Greg Lamb, pulled very fine behind square but the man on the boundary makes a fine diving stop. Shot! Just outside off stump and Lamb again gets one out of the middle - creaming the ball over long off for six runs. Excellent passage of play form Zimbabwe here.
Over 48 Otieno 1-0-4-0-1-W 276-6 - Greg Lamb is the new batsman. He plays one of the shots of the day first up! Full and a little wide and he threads the ball between four fielders to the boundary. Excellent off drive. Otieno follows it up with a bouncer which goes through to the keeper. Out! Full ball angled accross the left hander picks up the wicket. Ervine tries to make room to strike the ball through the covers but he gets an inside edge - playing the ball back onto his wickets. Excellent innings comes to an end.
Over 47 Ongondo 0-6-01lb-1-W 270-5 - Last over of the powerplay now. Ongondo takes it and dishes up one in Chigumbura's slot. Short of a length outside off and the Zim captain crashes the ball over extra cover for four. Nicely struck on the up. Chigumbura then misses out on a full ball on his pads - attempting to sweep but making no contact. Excellent fielding at mid off! Struck straight by Ervine and Mishra gets the dive out to stop a certain boundary. Out! And the same fielder takes a very neat catch on the long on boundary. Flat-batted over the bowler's head but the man's just been put there for Chigumbura. Nicely taken just short of the boundary.
Over 46 Otieno 1lb-4-0-4-1-1 262-4 - Here's Elijah Otieno. Wow, he comes sround the wicket to the left hander - puts one on Ervine's off stump and the Zimbabwean batsman picks him up over midwicket for another boundary. Classy shot. And he follows it up with another high risk paddle to fine leg. Full and quick but Ervine picks up the line beautifully - tapping it around the corner for four.
Over 45 Odhiambo 0-2-0-1-4-4 251-4 - Odhiambo back now. He gets away with a short ball as Chigumbura continues to struggle with his timing. Pulled to the boundary rider at midwicket. He follows that up with a lovely yorker which Chigumbura keeps out. Ervine brings up his fifty with a very cheeky little paddle to fine leg for four. Odhiambo dishes up a full, wide, slow delivery next and Ervine gives the fielders at cover no chance. Beautifully driven through them for four runs. Excellent over again for Zimbabwe.
Over 44 Tikolo 1-0-4-1-0-6 240-4 - Too straight from Tikolo and driven down the ground, past a diving mif off for four runs. Nice shot from Chigumbura. Next ball he sweeps powerfully to square leg for a single. That is HUGE! Ervine fetches a fullish one outside the off stump and slogs it over deep midwicket for one of the bigger sixes of the cup. Ugly over for Kenya, and there's still three to come.
Over 43 Ongondo 0-1-4-1-0-1wd-1 Batting powerplay taken now. Will Ervine and Chigumbura capitalise or capitulate? Let's have a look. Nicely put away by Elton! Not that short really, but beautifully pulled over midwicket for four. Good over for Zimbabwe.
Over 42 Tikolo 1wd-0-1-2-0-0 220-4 - Another missed stumping! Wide down the leg side and Chigumbura makes no contact after pouncing down the track. Again Patel makes a mess of it and that's a big let off for the batsman. Five runs from that over.
Over 41 Odhiambo 1wd-1-6-1-0-1-1 215-4 - Odhiambo comes back and starts with a wide down leg. Ervine surrenders the strike on the next delivery by slashing a short ball down to the backward point boundary. Wow - Chigumbura has absolutely smashed that for six. In his slot and he swings the bat through the line. Makes good contact and that's a maximum over long off! Great over for Zimbabwe.
Over 40 Tikolo 2wd-0-1-1-1-0-4 204-4 - And Tikolo bowls one of the worst deliveries of the day. In fact it was probably one of the worlst of the tournament. Miles wide of the leg stump. Keeper manages to get to it and only a single is taken. Single down the ground brings up the Zimbabwe 200. Boundary for Chigumbura! Didn't think I'd get to type that sentence today. Swept over short fine leg for four. Not overly convincing but a good result nonetheless.
Over 39 J Ngoche 4-4-0-0-1-1 195-4 - Wow this outfield is quick. Steered down behind square on the off side by Ervine. Short third man can't get to it and that's a boundary. And another one. Reverse sweep comes out this time and the short third man had no chance getting to that either.
Over 38 Ongondo 4-2-0-1-0-0 185-4 - Much too short and Ervine pulls the ball away for four. Not a convincing shot though and you get the feeling the ball could have gone anywhere. Chigumbura's not looking great out there. He plays a bored looking hook shot at a short delivery but makes no contact. The ball hits him in the breadbasket.
Over 37 J Ngoche 1-0-0-0-0-1 178-4 - Ervine goes for a sweep but makes not contact. The resultant appeal is turned down. No chance of it being out. Missed stumping! Ervine's beaten in the flight and the ball bounces between his legs straight into the gloves of Patel, the substitute keeper. Unfortunately for the Kenyans, the ball doesn't stick and Ervine survives.
Over 36 Ongondo 1-0-0-0-0-1 176-4 - Peter Ongondo back into the attack now. Worked away for a single first up by Ervine. Wow, he gets one to bounce and jag back at Chigumbura - hitting the Zimbabwe captain in the belly. Next delivery does the same and Chibumbura looks all at sea.
Over 35 J Ngoche 0-1-5wd-1-0-0-1 174-4 - James Ngoche eases the pressure on the new batsmen with an awful, wide delivery down leg side. Everyone misses it and the ball runs away. And it looks as if the keeper may have injured himself in trying to get to that. Some kind of abdominal strain. The physio comes to administer some treatment. Lengthy delay comes to an end with David Obuya making his way off the field. Rakep Patel takes the gloves from him.
Over 34 Tikolo 1-0-0-0-0-0 166-4 - Steve Tikolo is back after the dismissal of the two batsmen who punished him in his last over. Was that a drop? Tough chance for the man at cover as Chigumbura tries to turn the ball to midwicket and gets a leading edge. Obuya dives forward but that doesn't looked like it quite carried. Should have gotten there though, slow to get the dive out.
Over 33 J Ngoche 1-0-0-W-0-0 165-4 - Review! Taibu goes down to play the reverse sweep again and he misses the ball completely. Huge appeal and the umpire agrees with the bowler! Reviews are pretty conclusive and he's out! Both settled batsman gone now. Elton Chigumbura's the new man. Excellent over for Kenya.
Over 32 Otieno 0-0-4-0-0-0 164-3 - Fifty for Taibu! Excellent cut shot behind square for four brings up his half century as well as his 3000th career ODI run. Landmark combo! A decent over from Otieno otherwise.
Over 31 J Ngoche 2-0-0-4-0-4 160-3 - Four runs! Nice shot from the new man. On his pads and he makes no mistake getting a bat on it - runs away to the fine leg boundary. Edged but short of the man at slip and this one also runs away for four. Lucky as he pushes forward at one that turns away from him. Excellent over for Zimababwe.
Over 30 Otieno W-0-0-0-4-0 150 -3 - Out!Run out! Awful running from Taibu. He pushes the ball straight to the man at point and starts running. But he pulls out of it and returns to his crease. The fielder jogs to the non striker's end and takes the bails of as the bastmen convene at the other end. Sibanda's gone and that's a crucial blow. Craig Ervine's the new man. REVIEW! Given out by the umpire but the ball looks like it's going down. The decision's overturned! Taibu breathes a huge sigh of relief. Too full from Otieno and Taibu murders the ball through the covers for four. Lovely shot.
Over 29 Odhiambo 0-0-1wd-1-0-4-4 146-2 - Sibanda's short of his ground but the man at point misses a difficult throw. Out of jail. Unconvincing running from both batsman. Odhiambo bowls a terrible delivery to end what would have been a decent over. wide down the leg and Sibanda obliges with a tickle past short fine leg. Four runs. And another boundary! Lucky for the batsman this time. Wide on the off side and Sibanda slashes at it - he gets an edge on it and the ball flies fine, past the diving keeper, to the boundary.
Over 28 Tikolo 0-4-0-4-1-6 136-2 - Too short from the stand-in captain and he's struck through the covers for a welcome boundary by Taibu. And another one! Reverse sweep comes out again from Taibu. Nothing really wrong with the ball but excellent execution from the batsman. Hit in front of square on the off side. Sibanda back on strike and he brings up his half centure with a terrific strike for six over long on. Down the track and boom! 15 runs from that over.
Over 27 Odhiambo 0-0-1-0-0-0 121-2 - Here comes Odhiambo again. Kenya's best bowler of on the day so far. The effect on the run rate is immediate. Sibanda pulls at one that really wasn't short enough and he makes no contact. Excellent over for Kenya - only one run from it.
Over 26 Tikolo 0-1-0-2-1-1 120-2 - Powerflly swept to the square leg boundary by Taibu but the fielder does extremely well to keep them down to two runs. Five runs from the over. Another good one for Zimbabwe.
Over 25 J Ngoche 4-2-0-0-2-0 115-2 - Awful delivery from the leg spinner. Short and down leg and Sibanda pulls him behind square powerfully for a boundary. Some good running makes it 8 from the over.
Over 24 Tikolo 1-0-1-1-0-0 107- 2 - Steve Tikolo brings himself into the attack. His off spinners are worked around the park for three comfortable singles.
Over 23 J Ngoche 0-0-1-1-1-4 104-2 - Ngoche coming around the wicket now. Good line first up and Sibanda defends on the front foot. Taibu ruins what would have been a good over for Kenya by pulling off an excellent reverse sweep for four to the point boundary.
Over 22 C Obuya 1-1-1-1-0-0 97-2 - Nice little partnership here for Zimbabwe. Getting the run rate up a little. Obuya continues and he's worked around the park for a bunch of easy singles.
Over 21 J Ngoche 0-4-0-2-0-4 93-2 - Review taken. Sibanda's struck in front, looked like the ball is going down leg and the umpire says not out. Confirmed by the review. Sibanda rubs salt into the bowler's wounds with a lovely late cut for four. Wow that was some pretty awful ielding on the boundary. Clipped to midwicket again and the fielder lets it slip between his finders for four. As pedestrian an effort as you're likely to see at this tournament.
Over 20 C Obuya 0-2-1-0-4-1 83-2 - Nicely cut into the covers for two runs. Not too scared to give the ball some flight, is the leg spinner. Driven down the ground for a single. Awful line from Obuya and Sibanda sweeps him very fine to the boundary for four. Too full again and Sibanda comes down the wicket to him - meets the ball on the full but his ugly heave to midwicket is mistimed and the man on the boundary keeps it down to a single.
Over 19 J Ngoche 0-1-2-1-0-1 75-2 - Spin at both ends now as James Ngoche comes back into the attack. Taibu takes a risky single after pushing the ball into the covers. The throw's good, but Taibu's comfortably home. Good over for Zimbabwe - dealing with the off spinner without any problems.
OVer 18 C Obuya 1-1-0-0-0-0 70-2 - Here comes Collins Obuya for his first over of the day. His first delivery's short and Sibanda pulls convincingly to the midwicklet boundary for a single. Taibu does the same with the following delivery but that's it as far as runs are concerned for the rest of the over.
Over 17 Odhiambo 1-0-1-2-1-1 68-2 - Odhiambo continues after a short drinks break. He induces a very tired looking pull shot from Taibu. The ball loops into the infield but lands between the fielders at midwicket and mid on.
Over 16 J Ngoche 1-0-1-4-1-0 62-2 - Spin into the fray and along with change of pace comes the reverse-sweep from Taibu, who fetches four through thirdman-cum-fine-leg with a shot that is almost his bread'n'butter these days. While other players whip it out now and then, the wicketkeeper-batsman finds it as quite a regularity in his array of strokes. Drinks break.
Over 15 Odhiambo 0-0-0-0-0-1wd-1 55-2 - So ends the bowling Powerplay, with Odhiambo undoing a potential maiden with a closing leg-side line for Taibu to merely pick off to fine-leg.
Over 14 Ongondo 0-1-4-1-1wd-0-0 53-2 - Tikolo has asked one too many overs of Ongondo in the opening throes, with the beefy seamer's tired approach affording Taibu four punched through cover. Then easy singles and a wide and it's high time he get a rest. Odoyo warming up. 50 up for Zimbabwe.
Over 13 Odhiambo 0-1-3-0-0-0 46-2 - Kenya waste a review, with Taibu rightly surviving the third umpire's judgement, who is entirely correct - and then some - in deciding there was no way the angle was striking leg-stump. Not only line, but height was an issue too.
Over 12 Ongondo 4-1lb-0-1-0-0 42-2 - Change of ends for Ongondo, who fetches an immediate four as Sibanda spanks one on the up through extra cover. Then a halfhearted shout for lbw, but there's too much of a forward stride from the right-hander for umpire de Silva to even consider that. Well outside the line of off-stump too.
Over 11 Odhiambo 0-0-0-0-0-0 36-2 - Zimbabwe, right on cue, opt for their bowling Powerplay and duly get their five-over tactical off to an economical start as Taibu takes in a string of sighters, which ultimately amount to a maiden.
Over 10 Otieno 0-0-4-W-0-0 36-2 - Wicket! Reward for Otieno as Taylor perishes the ball after a confident boundary whipped through midwicket. It's an entirely soft dismissal, with mid-on left to pocket an easy catch as the opening batsman bobbles one that holds up off the crease a bit. Sibanda in need now and his team need some due circumspection from him for the time being. So ends the mandatory opening Powerplay.
Over 9 Odhiambo 0-0-0-1-0-W 32-1 - Wicket! The first-change seamer strikes in his very first over in getting rid of Chakava, whose largely scratchy knock meets its end on the back of some tidy away swing. The right-armer pitched it on a testing length, got the ball to nip away a touch and the right-hander was drawn into the shot. Nothing more than a feathered edge and off he walks. Taibu in now.
Over 8 Otieno 4-1-0-1-1-0 31-0 - Tired of going through the motiions of Otieno's superb approach, Taylor decides to take the attack to the seamer with somewhat of an agricultural hack across the line, which is good enough to fetch four past mid-on. Certainly from the textbook, that stroke, but effective enough.
Over 7 Ongondo 0-0-0-4-0-0 24-0 - Chakabva fetches his best shot of the day thus far by getting fully onto his front foot and driving through the line for four. That's it on a runs front for the over, though, and both batters would do well to intersperse more singles with the boundaries they're garnering.
Over 6 Otieno 0-0-0-1-0-0 20-0 - Otieno's fluid first spell gets another feather in its cap as Chakabva and then Taylor scrounge around for the singles on offer. There aren't many of 'em available, just one for this over, in fact. Plenty of men in the cover ring to prevent the drop'n'scamper for one.
Over 5 Ongondo 0-1-0-0-0-4 19-0 - All set for a cheap over on the back of some probing line and length, Ongondo undoes it all with a delivery errantly angled into Taylor, who is certainly not one to let such fodder go unpunished. Hence, four runs whipped over midwicket.
Over 4 Otieno 0-0-0-0-1-1 14-0 - Superb over from Otieno, who settles into a good rhythm from over the wicket to the right-handers, with Taylor and Chakabva's collective risk-free cricket enough to bring 'em a single apiece. Solid, if slow start from the Zimbabweans.
Over 3 Ongondo 1-0-1-1wd-0-0-0 12-0 - Taylor darts across his stumps in a bid to whip the ball through the leg-side, only to endure a halfhearted shout for lbw. Luckily for the Zimbabwean, a thick inside edge saves him from what otherwise would have been a pretty plumb lbw decision. After that nervy moment, Taylor is happy to go into his shell on the defence for the remainder of the over.
Over 2 Otieno 0-4-0-0-0-0 9-0 - Otieno shares the new ball with his fellow right-arm seamer but he too offers Taylor a loosener far too wide of the off-stump, with Taylor again content to lash the ball through the covers with a full flow of the arms and blade. Otieno, quick to learn from his errant line, promptly adjusts to close the over on the quiet.
Over 1 Ongondo 0-0-4-0-0-1 5-0 - Two slips and a thirdman in place for the seamer, who offers a touch too much width and Taylor is happy to oblige and early four to the cover fence with a lovely square-drive. That two-paced nature Botham mentioned earlier then comes into play, with the right-hander's bid to work the ball through the off-side off the backfoot succeeding only in awkwardly skewing a single to mid-on.
Zimbabwe's Innings With handshakes, anthems and other such pleasantries out the way, all and sundry are out in the middle and good to go. Taylor and Chakabva to open the batting. Strap in for the ride, folks.

Conditions And Weather Resident (just visiting, actually) pitch pundits Ian Botham and Mike Atherton have surveyed the playing surface, with 'Beefy' expecting the pitch to be somewhat two-paced and 'Athers' looking forward to big boundaries square of the wicket and a lightning-fast outfield. The weather's sitting pretty, with not a drop of rain in sight and plenty of humidity to keep the discomfort levels up.
Toss This just in: Elton Chigumbura has won the toss and Zimbabwe will bat first. No surprises there. Wielding the willow first up has pretty much been the common trend throughout the World Cup group stages.
Greetings Hello and welcome to our over-by-over commentary of the World Cup Group A clash between Kenya and Zimbabwe at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Despite failing to qualify for the quarter-finals, both teams have plenty of pride - and a token closing win - to play for.
