West Indies v New Zealand ODI Series 2012
5th ODI
Ground:
Warner Park
Last updated: 16th July 2012
End of MAtch That's a four games to one series victory for the home side, and it's been thoroughly deserved! With six overs to go, New Zealand looked to have this game wrapped up, but some inspired bowling from Narine and some poor decisions from the batsmen left the tourists with too much to do. It's been a good series from the home side and Sammy can be proud of his men for never giving up. Thanks for joining us. We'll see you for the tests
Over 50 Bravo 1-1-0-0-0-W 221/10 OUT! With twenty three to win, this game should surely be wrapped up. Bravo bowls the last over, and does well to give the batsmen nothing! The home side wraps up the series with a very good win as Pollard takes a high ball to dismiss Boult!
Over 49 Best 1-1-0-1-1-2 219/9 Best bowls a good over end his spell. The home side have fought back well!
Over 48 Narine 0-W-0-1-0-W 213/9 OUT! Narine has done him in as Ellis plays all over the delivery, it sneaks through to take top of off stump. Southee heaves one away. And Mills is then done in as well! Surely that must be it! That's Narine first fifer in ODI cricket!
Over 47 Best 0-1-1-1wd-0-1 212/7 This game has come alive now! It's there for the taking now! Best does well to keep it tight, but then bowls another wide. He recovers well though as Ellis looks to do to much!
Over 46 Narine 1-0-1-W-0-0 208/7A silly review leaves Ellis standing at his crease. Not even close! But Gayle comes up with a moment of brilliance! He dives away to his right to take a brilliant catch as Williamson tried to pull one through mid-wicket!
Over 45 Russell 0-0-4-1-4-1"->206/6 Russell is back from a long break. Can he be the game changer for the home side? Ellis doesn't think so! He's bashed him straight back over his head. Williamson then plays a great shot over mid off for four!
Over 25 Samuels 2-0-0-1-3-0 100/3 Samuels hasn't been as tight as Narine was, and has been easier to pick off. Perhaps New Zealand should look to target him now! Over 23 Sammy 1-0-0-1-0-0 94/3 The captain has been excellent with the ball today. He's bowled tight lines and really troubled the batsmen! Most of the runs scored off him have actually come of the edge of the bat. Over 22 Samuels 1-4-0-0-0-2 92/3 Samuels starts badly! Taylor slides the second ball fine for four. He recovers a bit to salvage the over. Over 21 Sammy 0-0-0-0-1-4 85/3 The game has slowed down so much that Tony Cozier is now talking about gospel music and a Dj called Wet Duck. Williamson meanwhile head butts a ball. You're just doing it wrong Kane! Sammy draws another edge that flies to the boundary! Unlucky! Over 20 Narine 0-1-0-0-1-0 80/3 More good areas from Narine as the pressure continues to build! Over 19 Sammy 1-0-0-0-0-0 78/3 The home side has done well to pin the tourists back for a while now, and the pressure is beginning to tell. The going has been very tough for the batsmen! Over 18 Narine 0-0-0-W-0-0 77/3 OUT! More tight bowling from Narine produces a wicket! Guptill is gone lbw! Good grief! A fizzing turner nearly finds Williamsons edge first up! Maiden Wicket! Over 17 Sammy 1lb-0-0-0-0-1 77/2 This has slowed down completely now, and the innings has become a little stagnant from the batting side's point of view! Over 16 Narine 1-0-0-0-1-0 75/2 This bowling tandem is proving to be difficult to score off. Both bowlers are bowling very good areas! Over 15 Sammy 0-1-1-1-0-1 73/2 Sammy has bowled well today, and the pressure nearly results in a run out! Taylor takes a very sharp single to mid-off. Over 14 Narine 0-0-1-1-1-1 69/2 Narine is bowling well now, he's troubling the batsmen now! He should have challenged an lbw shout that was turned down, as it would have been out! Over 13 Sammy 0-0-0-1-0-0 65/2 That seems to have woken up the home side as Sammy bowls with some good aggression. Over 12 Narine 0-0-4-0-W-0 64/2 OUT! Narine bowls too short here as McCullum gets on top of oine that he smashes past square leg for four. But then, from nowhere, he brings out a peach that McCullum cant get over, and he's caught in the slips! Over 11 Sammy 0-1-4-0-0-0 60/1 Guptill plays a nice safe lofted drive over mid-on for four as he looks to accelerate. Sammy fights back well though. Over 10 Narine 1-0-0-0-1-0 54/1 Tight from Narine again Over 9 Sammy 0-0-0-0-1-0 53/1 Sammy is looking good today, more tight bowling produces another good over. The New Zealanders can't seem to get on top of him Over 8 Narine 0-0-4-1-1-0 52/1 That's the fifty for the visitors! They are rumbling along now! Over 7 Sammy 0-0-0-4-0-0 46/1 The Captain steps up to take matters into his own hands. His pace variation and tight line will be very difficult on this wicket. A point punctuated by an outside edge from Guptill that only just evades Gayle in the slips. Unlucky! Over 6 Russell 0-0-0-6-1lb-4 42/1 Guptill wears the second ball of the over on his back! He doesnt seem to be all that confident against Russell today! Until the fourth ball that is. He mooses one back over Russell's head for six! McCullum however, just keeps going! Over 5 Best 0-1wd-6-0-2-1-0 30/1 Best is not looking great now as Guptill looks to get stuck into him. A lovely shot over the cover boundary from Guptill! This is a good start for the visitors! Over 4 Russell 1-0-0-0-4-0 21/1 Russell meanwhile keeps up his good bowling with another tight over. McCullum shows respect as he blocks out the better deliveries. Unfortunately, the fifth ball was a little wide, and there was no respect at all from McCullum as he smashes it square for four! Over 3 Best 0-0-4-0-0-4 16/1 McCullum is looking good today as he put best away over square for four. Best fights back well to rescue the over. He's bowling with good gas today is Best, up around 145km/h. But some daft fielding from Bravo has just ruined the over! Over 2 Russell 0-0-0-0-0-0 8/1 Russell to bowl now, and his captain would love for him to do something as spectacular with the ball as he did with the bat! He starts off very well with a maiden! Over 1 Best 2-W-2-4-0-0 8/1 OUT! The Best possible start! Tino gets Nicol as he whips one to Bravoat square leg! Great start! A bit expensive, but he got the wicket! End of Innings And That's that! The home side will be pleased with that total after a very poor start. It may well be the case that Andre Russell is knighted after that batting display, under those circumstances. For the most part, the New Zealanders bowled exceptionally well, and they can be satisfied with that effort. Is this total enough? Join us in a few to find out! Over Southee 4-4-1-1-0-0 241/9 Russell just keeps on trucking! Two four off two balls! He's given this total respectability now! Over 49 Mills 1-0-1-0-1-1 231/9 Mills bowls another fine over to end his spell. Well bowled from New Zealand's second most prolific ODI bowler! Russell meanwhile brings up his fifty! Thats been a highly entertaining innings, and leaves only one question. Why is he batting number nine??? Over 48 Southee 4-1-0-1-1wd-0-0 227/9 Russell has been in scintillating form today! He's has smashed his way to forty seven showing not respect to any of the bowlers! Over 47 Mills W-0-1-0-1wd-0-0 220/9 OUT! Narine plays a silly shot straight down long-off's throat. Considering the form that Russell is in, that's not smart cricket! Over 46 Ellis 1-1-6-6-1wd-1-1 216/8 Russell keeps going! He manages to heave a low full toss over the mid-wicket boundary, and then did it again! Ellis is clearly rattled as he then goes too wide! It's only some brilliant fielding from McCullum that denies Russell his third boundary in the over! Over 45 Williamson 1-0-6-4-1-1 200/8 Now Russell takes matters into his own hands as he tries to accelerate! Lovely cricket from Russell as he punishes two loose deliveries! Over 44 Ellis W-0-1-4-1-1 187/8 OUT! Bravo is done! He holes out to McCullum in the deep! Over 43 Mills 1-0-1-1-1-1 180/7 The New Zealanders are keeping things very tight here! Over 42 Southee 1-1-1-1-0-0 175/7 Fifty up for Bravo! A measured innings from the veteran. Well Played! Over 41 Ellis 1-1-4-0-0-0 171/7 Ellis has one of his first loose overs today. He strayed a little too straight with his third ball which was flicked fine four four. Over 40 Southee 0-0-1-1-1-1 164/7 Southee continues with his good form today. He's been my pick of the bowlers! Just the four from it. Over 39 Mills 0-W-0-0-0-0 160/7 OUT! Sammy flashes outside off, and Latham pouches an easy catch after the captain get's the nick. Oh dear! Mills has bowled, as has the rest of the tea, very well today! Wicket Maiden! Over 38 Ellis 1-1-W-1-1-1 160/6 OUT! Thomas falls after failing to put away a full toss! Another soft dismissal as that ball should have been smoked out the park! The captain is in to bat now, and he gets off the mark straight away. Over 37 Mills 1-1-0-1-4-1 155/5 Mills is back in and looking tidy again! Thomas though manages to get one away for a boundary. He didn't time it at all though. A better over for the West Indies Over 36 Ellis 0-2-1-4-1-0 147/5 Ellis keeps up his tidy spell, but Bravo seems to be in the mood for a smash now as he crashes a superb cover-drive for four. Over 35 Williamson 1-1-2-1-0-1 139/5 Williamson is bowling again? Odd considering that the they can use their front line bowlers to close out the innings. A reasonable over for the home side Over 34 Flynn 1-1-0-0-0-2 133/5 Flynn is in! A tidy over which ends the part-timers ten overs that needed to be made up Over 33 Nicol 0-6-0-0-4-0 129/5 SIX! Finally Bravo is showing signs of life as he deposits a long hop over the boundary for six! And wait! Another boundary? Goodness, this is a giddy over from Bravo! Over 32 Boult 0-0-0-1-0-1 119/5 Boult continues to bowl fantastic lines today! He's really given the batsmen very little to score with. Over 31 Williamson 2-0-0-1wd-1-1-0 117/5 The home side really need to get a move on now as the tourists keep them pinned back! Over 30 Boult 4lb-0-0-0-1-1 112/5 Apart from a delivery that was to straight, that ended up going for four leg-byes, Boult bowls another good over. Over 29 Nicol 0-0-1-0-0-0 106/5 More tight bowling from New Zealand has the home side really struggling! Over 28 Boult 0-0-0-0-1-0 105/5 Bravo is crawling along at a very slow over rate. Obviously he's trying to stick around, but is it possibly adding more pressure on to his team mates? Another good over from the Black Caps! Over 27 Williamson 0-2-0-4-W-0 104/5 OUT! The part timer get a stick! Pollard is gone! West Indioes are in trouble now as Pollard scoops on straight to Guptill again! Over 26 Southee W-0-0-0-0-1 98/4 OUT! Southee strikes again! Guptil takes a brilliant diving catch low to his left to dismiss Samuels! Southee has been magnificent today! Over 25 Nicol 0-1-0-1-1-0 97/3 A good over from Nicol Over 24 Southee 0-0-0-1-1-1lb 94/3 Another good over from Southee Over 23 Williamson 0-0-1-4-0-1 91/3 Williamson scuttles in to bowl now, and he does well until Samuels took control. He used his feet nicely to get one away straight for a boundary Over 22 Ellis 0-0-0-0-1-0 85/3 Goodness that's unlucky! Ellis makes a great leap to his right after delivery a ball to Bravo. The ball was spooned back to Ellis but he just wasn't able to bag it. Another good over from Eliss though. Over 21 Southee 0-4-0-0-0-0 84/3 Southee is back, but not welcomed by Smith, as he plays a lovely cover drive for four. Samuels has looked very relaxed at the crease today. Over 20 Ellis 1-0-0-1-2-0 80/3 The batsmen have been tied down comprehensively in this bowling powerplay. The tourists have been extremely disciplined in their efforts to keep the batsmen pinned down! Only a too straight delivery to spoil an otherwise good over Over 19 Mills 0-0-1-0-1-0 76/3 Mills keeps up the good work. Using different grips, he's managed to extract some variable bounce out of this wicket. It's been a fine display of tight lines from him! Over 18 Ellis 0-0-2-1-0-0 74/3 Another good over for the tourists as Ellis bowls more of his tight lines. These bowlers are not giving the batsmen any easy scoring shots! Over 17 Mills 0-1-0-0-0-0 71/3 Mills is back for the bowling powerplay, and he starts very well. He mixed his pace nicely in that over. Over 16 Flynn 1-0-0-4-0-1 70/3 And now we're really into the part-timers!Flynn proves this point by lobbing up a full toss off his first delivery! Samuels then plays a great drive straight down the field for four! Over 15 Nicol 4-1-0-6-0-0 64/3 Nicol drops his first delivery short, and Bravo doesnt need a second invitation to ping the first boundary of his innings. Samuels does not like being shown up, apparently, as he sent the his boundary out the park! Over 14 Ellis 0-1-0-0-1wd-0-1 53/3 Ellis has manged to get some steep bounce off this deck. He's a tall strong fella, and he likes to bang the ball in hard! Over 13 Nicol 1-0-0-1-0-0 50/3 And we're into the less recognized bowlers now. Nicol however starts very well witgh his brand of off-spin bowling Over 12 Ellis 0-0-0-0-0-1 48/3 Ellis starts off well, hitting his straps straight off! Over 11 Southee 0-1-0-2-0-0 47/3 Southee has been the picture of consistency so far today. He's been on the money from the start! Another good over from the tall seamer. Over 10 Boult 5-0-0-1-0-1 44/3 Oh dear! A terrible throw from Nicol ends up giving the home side 5 overthrows! Over 9 Southee 0-W-0-0-0-0 37/3 OUT! Southee strikes again! Smith called for a review of the lbw, but the third umpire sends him packing! This is a great start from Southe and the Black Caps! A wicket maiden! Over 8 Boult 0-1-0-0-4-0 37/2 Once again Boult strays to straight and gives Samuels a lovely gift ball that he whips off his legs four four. A nice way to get off the mark for him. Over 7 Southee 1-0-1-0-0-W 32/2 OUT! Southee is into the attack, and he starts well! Good areas, with some movement to go with it. He rounds up a good over with the wicket of Johnson Charles who limply spoons one t o Nicol at point! Over 6 Boult 2-0-0-4-0-0 30/1 Smith seems to be in a hurry as he plays some very extravagant shots first up! He'll never be accused of being boring will Smith! Over 5 Mills 1-0-0-W-0-1 24/1 OUT! Mills has recovered nicely after that Charles onslaught earlier, he draws Gayle into a silly shot as he plays it straight into the waiting hands of Nicol! Good comeback from Mills! Over 4 Boult 4 0-0-1wd-1-1wd-0-0 22/0 Boult starts well, but strays a bit to straight. He's trying to bowl very full, but cant seem to get his lines right. Over 3 Mills 0-6-0-4-0-1 20/0 Boom! Charles sends Mills on his way, to try and find the new ball that he's just dispatched out of the park! He follows this up with a fine straight drive for four! Over 2 Boult 1lb-0-0-0-4-1wd 9/0 a streaky boundary off the fourth ball of the over Over 1 Mills 0-0-1-1-1-0 3/0 And we're off! Mills starts with a good over, making the batsmen play at every ball. A near run-out as there was some confusion between Gayle and Charles off the fourth ball of the over Having a look through the team sheets, one has to wonder how the tourists are planning to get their allotted overs bowled. With only three full-time bowlers, on a particularly small ground, they could see the likes of Gayle and Pollard dispatching them to all corners! Toss The West Indies have won the toss and elected to have a bat! Team News The home side remains unchanged for this game. Team News Andrew Ellis, Kyle Mills and Daniel Flynn are back today, in place of Jacob Oram, Doug Bracewell and Nathan McCullum will sit this one out for the tourists Welcome Hello and welcome to this coverage of the the fifth and final ODI between New Zealand and the hosts, the West Indies.
