Australia v South Africa Test Series 2012
End of Innings It is the end of day 5 of the 2nd test and what a test match it has been. South Africa manage to draw the test with great performances from both sides after sustaining some injuries. Australia was in control of the match until day 4, when Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers started batting and then slowly the game shifted. South Africa manage to draw this test and it will feel like a win for them. Faf du Plessis was declared the player of the match for his batting performances in both innings, becoming the first South African to score a 50 and a 100 in his maiden test.
Over 148 Siddle 0-0-0-4-4-0 Siddle gives it everything, running in to bowl his last over and the last over of this test. Morne blocks the first ball. A spicy short ball from Siddle and Morne ducks and survives. Morne survives the third ball too, just blocking it, Faf encouraging Morne, three to go. Full toss and Morne takes a single, but the Aussies let it go for a four, so he is back on strike. Another boundary for Morkel through the covers as the Aussies let it go to keep him on strike. Last ball of the match and Morne survives and the test is drawn.
Over 147 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon is rushing through his over, Faf calmly blocks. It seems like the whole Aussie team is around Faf's bat, Ricky getting in a few words in. Faf survives.
Over 146 Siddle 0-0-0-0-0-0 Siddle gets a crack at the tail ender, Morkel must be feeling the butterflies. He gets a big stride in and faces it with a straight bat. It is getting slightly darker also, but the cricket wont be affected by the dark clouds, everything is happening in Adelaide. Siddle runs back to his mark as he wants to ball another one after this. Morne survives.
Over 145 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon pushing through a quick over so they can get another one in. Faf on strike and blocking every ball. We have had some great individual performances in this test and what a game overall. Another maiden from Lyon.
Over 144 Siddle 0-0-0-0-0-W Siddle gets a break of one over and is back to charge in and get some reverse swing back into Kleinveldt. WICKET! Siddle strikes again, Kleinveldt is clean bowled through is defenses. What a game this is turning out to be.
Over 143 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 The crowd cheering Lyon on, with many fielders around the bat. A bit of turn from Lyon and Faf handles it well. And a maiden from Lyon.
Over 142 Clarke 0-0-0-1-2-0 Clarke brings himself on with 5 overs to go, Faf is on strike. Faf takes a single on the off side, struggling to run possibly because of cramps. Kleinveldt gets a couple of runs, driving on the up through the covers.
Over 141 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon the off spinner gets a shot at Kleinveldt. Another over goes by, 5 more remaining at least.
Over 140 Siddle 0-1-0-2-0-0 The fired up Siddle runs in, spending his last reserve of energy to give his team the upper hand. Kleinveldt looks to block it. Sneaks in a single to bring Faf on strike. They run two as Faf swats this one past short square leg. Another over gone.
Over 139 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Faf who got another stretch from the physio after the wicket, faces Lyon now. He must be cramping after so much batting. Faf keeps it out, another over gone, another maiden.
Over 137 Siddle 0-0-0-0-W-0 Siddle to continue, he has bowled well today and yesterday. The Aussies had to share the workload of one bowler as Pattinson was not going to bowl in this innings and they have done well, Siddle and Hilfenhaus bowling extra overs and Lyon pitching in too. WICKET! Siddle gets a wicket from a full toss, Steyn goes after doing his part. Quiney taking a simple catch. Kleinveldt comes in.
Over 137 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon continues his search for another wicket. Another maiden from him, Faf gets a stretch between overs and Bowden asking to hurry up.
Over 136 Siddle 0-0-0-0-0-0 Siddle to Steyn now, one fast bowler to another, no professional courtesy, expect some short stuff. Steyn pushed at it and it landed near Cowan who could not hold on to it, a very difficult chance. Steyn pushes again and it falls short of Ponting. Steyn keeps it out, another over gone.
Over 135 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon bowls now, and finishes another maiden. Faf solid in defense.
Over 134 Hilfenhaus 0-0-0-0-0-0 Hilfenhaus and other bowlers are trying to get through their overs quickly, trying to bowl as many as they can. A maiden from Hilfo.
Over 133 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon bowls and Faf plays out another over.
Over 132 Warner 0-0-0-0-0-1 We enter the final hour of the match and Faf gets a rub down from the physio. Warner will bowl the first of 15 overs. A single from the last ball, Faf on strike.
Over 131 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon bowls another maiden, Steyn blocks it well.
Over 130 Hilfenhaus 0-0-0-0-0-0 Hilfenhaus bowling well again, the Aussies seem to be fired up after that wicket. A maiden from him
Over 129 Lyon W-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon produces a wicket, Kallis caught for 46! WICKET! Is there another twist in the tale. There are may be 19 to 20 overs left in the day from now on. Dale Steyn walks in calmly. The celebration from Faf was not too extravagant after getting the 100, he know the job is not done yet.
Over 128 Hilfenhaus 1-2-0-4-2-0 Hilfenhaus runs in and Kallis takes a single to get Faf on strike. It was in the air, but that did not matter, Faf gets the 2 runs he needs to get his 100. So he becomes the first South African to get a 50 and a 100 in his maiden test and what a match saving innings it has been!
Over 127 Lyon 0-1-0-0-0-0 The spinning workhorse, Lyon, comes into the attack. A big shout against Kallis for lbw as he does not offer a shot, but umpire gives it not out. Just one run from Lyon
Over 126 Hilfenhaus 0-0-0-0-0-0 Another wicketless maiden, this time from Hilfenhaus.
Over 125 Siddle 0-0-0-0-0-0 Siddle runs in to bowl some more, a really whole-hearted performance from him for his team. Another wicketless over for Siddle.
Over 124 Hilfenhaus 0-1-0-0-0-0 Hilfenhaus bowls and Kallis takes a single to bring Faf on strike. Half a chance as Faf misses this and it hits his pads, but it was going down leg.
Over 123 Siddle 2-0-0-0-0-0 Faf gets a couple of runs from the first ball to move on to 98. Just the two from the over means Faf will stay on 98. The crowd is vocal as Siddle tries his heart out to get a wicket.
Over 122 Hilfenhaus 0-0-0-0-0-0 Hilfenhaus into the attack now. And bowls another maiden.
Over 121 Siddle 0-0-0-0-0-0 Siddle runs in with the ball, Faf waiting on 96. Another maiden for Siddle, Faf stays on 96.
Over 120 Clarke 0-0-0-0-0-0 Clarke takes his time with setting the field. Kallis solid in defense. A maiden from Clarke.
Over 119 Siddle 2-0-0-0-0-0 Siddle to start with Clarke at the other end after tea. Faf blocks the rest of the over after taking a couple of runs from the first ball.
Over 118 Clarke 0-0-0-0-0-4 It continues to be about survival for South Africa after tea, as Clarke takes matters in his own hands. Well played by Kallis for a boundary off the last ball.
Tea Day Five It is tea on day five and South Africa have done well to keep the match alive. It has been old fashioned test match batting, but they have played superbly, AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis carrying on where they left of yesterday. Faf was joined by Kallis after AB was bowled by Siddle. Just the one wicket for the Aussies who will look for more after tea.
Over 117 Hilfenhaus 4-0-0-0-0-0 Faf as moved on to 90 and will be looking for his maiden test hundred on debut. He plays a glorious cover drive for four, moves on to 94. Wade can't hold on to that one, Faf hit it but Wade dropped him on 94. This is probably the only chance Faf has given the Aussies.
Over 116 Lyon 0-0-0-2-4-0 Lyon bowls a good over, Kallis drives him through the covers for four after picking up a couple of runs behind point.
Over 115 Hilfenhaus 2-1-0-0-0-0 Hilfenhaus continues, and Cowan makes a good stop at the boundary to keep it down to a couple of runs. SA are 202 for 5.
Over 114 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 A big shout for a catch, but the umpire was not interested, replays show the ball hitting the pad and the Aussie desperation in the appeal.
Over 113 Hilfenhaus 0-2-0-0-0-0 SA move on to 199 because of a good stop from Lyon on the boundary to keep it down to just two runs. Just the two from the over.
Over 112 Lyon 0-1-2-1-0-1 Lyon continues, Faf moves on to 90 with a single and a two. Five from the Lyon over, SA are 197 for 5.
Over 111 Hilfenhaus 0-0-1-0-4-0 A great cover drive from Faf, reaching the boundary with ease. A good shot from him.
Over 110 Lyon 0-1-0-0-0-0 Lyon hops in to bowl. On the Aussie side, Watson may play the next test, if he has recovered. Starc is knocking on the door. Quiney has not performed well and may have to be dropped for Watson. If Pattinson is still injured, Starc should have an easy choice.
Over 109 Hilfenhaus 0-0-0-0-0-0 Hilfenhaus is brought back into the attack to get some swing off the old ball like he did in the first innings. Faf is looking strong and solid in defense. There will be a few changes in the team before the next test. Tahir may be dropped, and Robin Peterson may be given a chance. In the meantime Hilfenhaus gets through a maiden.
Over 108 Quiney 0-0-0-0-0-0 Another maiden for Quiney. There should be a change in bowling soon.
Over 107 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon bowls another maiden. The Aussies or the game in general is on auto-pilot now, like it was yesterday evening.
Over 106 Quiney 0-0-0-0-0-0 Quiney gets in a maiden.
Over 105 Lyon 0-1-0-0-0-0 Lyon to bowl and gives away just a single in the over. The runs are not an issue, 35 overs remain in the day.
Over 104 Quiney 0-0-0-0-1-1 Quiney introduced into the attack, because Warner was going for runs. Only two from that over.
Over 103 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Another good maiden from Lyon. Kallis does not mind attacking Warner, but plays out Lyon carefully.
Over 102 Warner 1-0-4-0-1-4 Kallis really attacking Warner, hitting him against the spin over midwicket. A full toss and a four from Kallis, dismissed.
Over 101 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon sneaks in a maiden.
Over 100 Warner 0-0-0-4-4-0 Warner comes into the attack, pitching it outside leg and turning it into Kallis. Kallis taking the attack to Warner hitting him for two boundaries over midwicket. They were good shots, but they could have been chances of a catch.
Over 99 Hilfenhaus 0-0-0-0-4-4 Hilfenhaus runs in. Two quick boundaries for du Plessis from the last two balls of the over.
Over 98 Clarke 1-0-0-0-0-0 After a long chat with Ponting, Clarke starts bowling. Just a single from the Clarke over.
Over 97 Hilfenhaus 0-0-0-0-0-0 Hilfenhaus comes back into the attack replacing Siddle and bowls a maiden.

Over 90 Lyon 1-0-0-0-0-4 Kallis comes out to bat. Kallis plays it off his pads for four through leg side.
Over 89 Siddle 0-1-1-0-0-W Siddle continues. WICKET! Siddle gets the breakthrough. AB de Villiers is bowled as the ball goes through AB's defenses.
Over 88 Hilfenhaus 0-0-1-0-1-0 Just a couple of singles from Hilfenhaus' over, again, no movement or swing for him after lunch.
Over 87 Siddle 0-0-0-0-0-0 Siddle to share the new ball after lunch. Lots of interesting slow-scoring records, and AB is in the hunt for all of them. Boycott's 77 from 377 balls without a boundary. Or Jimmy Adam with his 212-ball innings without a four or a six.
Over 86 Hilfenhaus 0-0-0-4-0-0 Hilfenhaus after lunch, Faf plays it through slips and gully for four, He gets to his 50 a great knock from him.
Over 85 Siddle 0-0-0-0-0-0 Siddle runs in to bowl the last over before lunch. And that will be lunch as Siddle completes another maiden. The Aussies are wicketless in the morning session.
Over 84 Lyon 1-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon comes back into the attack after just three overs from the quicks. du Plessis has slowly moved on to 49. A big shout for lbw, but the replays show it was hitting him outside the line of off, going on to miss the stumps,

Over 80 Clarke 2-0-0-0-0-3 The new ball is due soon after this over and Clarke will be looking to attack with that. Five from the over, and the Aussies have raced through their overs today. The new ball is available.
Over 79 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon continues, now changing the angle from over the wickets, ends up with a maiden again.

Over 70 Clarke 0-0-1-0-0-0 Just a single from the Clarke over.
Over 69 Hilfenhaus 1-0-0-0-0-0 After all the unnecessary excitement from Clarke's overs, Hilfenhaus' overs seems more like a test match. Just a single from it.
Over 68 Clarke 0-1-0-0-0-0 It is what some may call boring batting from this pair, but it is really interesting how they are doing it. Controlling the run rate, making sure they play each ball well with four fielders around the bat and not giving their wicket away because their team needs them to stay out there as long as they can. And another chance of a wicket as umpire Bowden gives Faf out lbw to Clarke. Faf reviews it, replays show that he not only hit it but the ball was never close to the pad, not even a little close. Desperate appealing from the players and another bad decision overturned, long live DRS.
Over 67 Hilfenhaus 1-0-0-0-0-0 Just a single from the over.
Over 66 Clarke 2-0-0-4-0-0 This brings up the 50 run partnership. A big appeal for lbw, du Plessis was not offering a shot, and it clearly pitched on leg stump. Umpire gives it out, du Plessis refers it. This could be close, a break a crucial partnership. du Plessis survives, it was pitching just outside leg, only just. A boundary for Faf as he palys it to the off side, well balanced shot.
Over 65 Hilfenhaus 0-0-0-0-0-0 A maiden from Hilfenhaus
Over 64 Clarke 0-0-0-0-0-0 The confident Clarke, brings himself on. Another maiden, this time from Clarke.

Over 62 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Lyon continues his hunt for a wicket from the other end. Another quick maiden from Lyon.
Over 61 Hilfenhaus 0-0-0-0-0-0 Hilfenhaus brought into the attack to pick up a wicket, the new ball is far away, Aussies will be looking for a wicket before that. Another maiden from the Aussies.
Over 60 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Another maiden from Lyon, something that seems to be commonplace between yesterday and today.
Over 59 Siddle 1-0-0-1-0-0 Just tucks around towards short square leg for a single. Just a couple of singles from the over.
Over 58 Lyon 0-4-0-0-0-0 This is good batting from this pair blocking and surviving, then scoring when the opportunity arises.
Over 57 Siddle 0-0-0-0-0-0 Siddle is taking his time to bowl and another maiden from him.
Over 56 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 The umpire calls it a dead ball as Faf does not offer a shot and it hits him as goes past Clarke at first slip. Another maiden.
Over 55 Siddle 0-0-0-0-0-0 Siddle to continue and the batsmen seem to be in the same mode they were in for the last 29 overs yesterday. There is a shower or two forecast for the day in Adelaide, so that may affect the game.
Over 54 Lyon 0-0-0-0-0-0 Another good over from Lyon, a maiden. Faf plays it out.
Over 53 Siddle 0-0-0-0-0-0 Siddle continues, this pair looking more settled and positive at the crease. A maiden from Siddle.
Over 52 Lyon 0-0-0-1-2-0 Lyon to start the day from the Cathedral end. de Villiers gets a single from angling it down past the leg slip. Faf gets a couple of runs from an edge. Three from the over.
Over 51 Siddle 0-1-3-0-4-0 Siddle to start the day, Faf gets the first runs on of the day and Lyon makes a good stop to keep it to a single at mid on. AB de Villiers guides one past slips go get three runs as Warner gives chase and stops the ball just before the boundary. Faf plays te leg glance to perfection for four down fine leg, certainly looking more positive today.

The Proteas must bat out the day, or score a massive total, to either draw or win. They have six wickets in hand to do either. Join us at midnight GMT or 2am SA time for the action.
