ENGLAND WIN BY SIX WICKETS and reduce their deficit in the series to 2-1 ahead of the fourth match in Napier on Wednesday. That one is a day game so, if you're following from the UK, play starts at 2200h (GMT) on Tuesday evening. Join us then for more commentary to see if England can build on today's result.
Over 44 - Oram 1-0-0-0-1-1 229-4 - Collingwood taps a single out to square-leg to seal a six-wicket victory and finish with 70 not out.
Over 43 - Hitchcock 6nb-2-4-4-1-0 226-4 - Collingwood races towards the finish line in style. A waist high full toss - which this time is called a no-ball - is dispatched into the square-leg stand and fours follow over mid-off and via a reverse sweep. England require three runs from 24 balls.
Over 42 - Mills 1-2-4-4-1-2 208-4 - Collingwood brings up a 42-ball half-century with successive boundaries either side of the wicket. 14 runs flow from the over, it should be a walk in the park for England from here, they require a further 21 from 30 balls.
Over 41 - Martin 1-1-0-1-1-6 194-4 - Collingwood takes full advantage of a waist high full toss, dispatching it all the way for six. Just what England needed to leave them requiring 35 runs from 36 balls. Collingwood not happy that it was not also called a no ball, was a borderline call.
Over 40 - Mills 0-1-0-1-1-2 184-4 - Collingwood chips into the leg-side for a single, while Shah collects two with a slashed drive down to third man. In total five runs are taken from the over which means the required rate creeps up again. England are still heavy favourites for me, but it could definitely go down to the final over.
Over 39 - Martin 2-0-1-1-1-1 179-4 - Martin is back into the attack. Shah carves a couple out to point and, in total, six runs are taken from the over to leave England requiring 50 runs off 48 balls.
Over 38 - Mills 0-0-2-0-0-4 173-4 - Both these England batsmen love to use a bit of bottom hand. Collingwood finishes the over with a boundary to midwicket.
Over 37 - Vettori 0-0-1-1-1-0 167-4 - Just three singles allow Vettori to complete a 10-over analysis of 2-23, doesn't look like being enough though.
Over 36 - Mills 0-1-0-1-2-0 164-4 - Shah gets the bottom hand involved to pick up a couple out to midwicket, just one more substantial partnership will get England home from here.
Over 35 - Vettori 1-0-0-0-1-0 160-4 - England are still well in control of this chase, the required rate remains under six an over and, with its short square boundaries, there is plenty of potential for quick scoring on this ground. Looks like Mills is returning for another spell...
Over 34 - Oram 2-0-6-0-1-0 158-4 - Are England going to choke this one? Collingwood doesn't look too worried as he pins back his ears and launches a maximum back over Oram's head. England require 71 from 78 balls.
Over 33 - Vettori 1-0-1-0-1-W 149-4 - Wicket! Pietersen gone lbw - he got a big stride in but it was straight as they come. Umpire Rauf does the rest. Owais Shah is the new batsman and enters the fray with the pressure rising.
Over 32 - Oram 0-0-4-0-1-0 146-3 - Collingwood gets four off the outside edge, he was trying to go down the ground but the ball flew off the edge down to third man. Umpire Baxter turns down a caught behind appeal against Pietersen - don't think there was any wood involved, it just clipped his pad on the way through.
Over 31 - Vettori W-1-1-0-1-0 141-3 - Wicket! Bell departs lbw. Umpire Rauf raises the finger but replays show an inside edge. Bell not impressed with that one, understandably so. Have we got a game on?
Over 30 - Oram 1-1-2-1-4-0 138-2 - The Styris experiment is aborted after just one over. Oram's return is not a success with nine runs - including a pulled four from Pietersen - coming from it.
Over 29 - Vettori 1-0-2-1-1-1 129-2 - With England now requiring 100 from 18 overs New Zealand are getting to the point of no return, they need some wickets to get back in the contest.
Over 28 - Styris 4-1-1-0-0-0 123-2 - New Zealand need wickets and so Vettori turns to the medium pace of Styris. He doesn't back a good start as a half tracker is dispatched by Bell to the midwicket boundary.
Over 27 - Vettori 1-0-0-0-0-0 117-2 - Vettori is a total class act in this form of the game, Pietersen knows it and is content to see him off and look to score his runs elsewhere.
Over 26 - Hitchcock 0-0-1-4-4-4 116-2 - As the rain starts to fall again in Auckland, Pietersen breaks the shackles with three consecutive boundaries. The first is pulled as Hitchcock drops it too short, the second driven through the covers and the final delivery of the over is sent straight back down the ground. The umpires decide to stay out for the moment with England 15 ahead on the Duckworth-Lewis calculation.
Over 25 - Vettori 0-0-1-1-0-0 103-2 - The runs have dried up and the required rate is edging up towards a run a ball. Nothing to concern England, who bat all the way down (except for last man Anderson) and should have no problems with this chase.
Over 24 - Hitchcock 0-1-0-2-0-0 101-2 - The game has gone into a lull as Hitchcock and Vettori bowl accurately to a well spread field. Pietersen and Bell are content to push the available ones and twos without taking any risk. It's not thrilling to watch.
Over 23 - Vettori 0-0-1-1-0-0 98-2 - Pietersen uses his feet to get to the pitch and rotate the strike. Still just two runs are taken from the over as both Bell and Pietersen show Vettori's bowling the respect it deserves.
Over 22 - Hitchcock 0-1-1-+-0-1-0 96-2 - New Zealand are racing through their overs in quick time. More nondescript medium pace from Hitchcock, including a wide that slipped out of his hand.
Over 21 - Vettori 0-0-0-1-0-0 92-2 - Good stuff from Vettori, changing his pace with no discernable change in the speed he brings his arm over at.
Over 20 - Hitchcock 4-1-0-0-1-1 91-2 - Bell drives through the covers in effortless fashion for his ninth boundary and then drops a quick single to complete his ninth one-day international half-century from 52 balls - that's half the job done.
Over 19 - Vettori 0-0-0-0-0-0 84-2 - Spin for the first time today as the New Zealander skipper brings himself on. Promising start as Pietersen is tied down in his crease during a maiden.
Over 18 - Hitchcock 1-0-4-0-2-2 84-2 - With McCullum standing up at the stumps and no fine leg in place it's not a great idea to bowl at leg-stump. But that's what he does and Pietersen helps it one the way to the boundary. England require 145 runs from 29 overs.
Over 17 - Martin 1-0-4-0-1-1 77-2 - Bell opens the blade and crashes the ball square of the wicket for his seventh boundary, moving past 2,000 runs in ODIs in the process.
Over 16 - Hitchcock 0-0-2-0-2-0 70-2 - Medium pacer Hitchcock, who has taken 12 wickets in his previous 13 ODIs, comes into the attack. Bell collects a pair of twos as the speed gun peaks at 80mph.
Over 15 - Martin 0-1-0-1-0-0 66-2 - Good over from Martin - full, straight and not giving up any easy runs.
Over 14 - Oram 1-4-0-0-4-0 64-2 - Bell picks up four by just clearing mid-off with an aerial drive. Later in the over comes a freebie from Oram as his attempted slower ball goes awry and comes out as a wide long hop - Bell belts it to the fence.
Over 13 - Martin 0-0-0-0-0-1 55-2 - Another run out chance. This time Styris ('one of the chunkier fielders' according to David Lloyd) misses the stumps after swooping in and picking up one handed from midwicket. Had he hit, Bell - who does like a run out - would have been long gone.
Over 12 - Oram 0-1lb-0-1-0-0 54-2 - Shout for lbw against Bell is turned down by umpire Gary Baxter, who spotted a thin inside edge.
Over 11 - Mills 0-0-4-0-4-1 52-2 - Adventurous batting from Bell, twice skipping down the pitch and lofting over mid-on for four. He retains the strike with a quick single. Vettori is upset about something and is engaged in a stern discussion with the umpires at the end of the overs, not sure what that was all about.
Over 10 - Oram 0-4-0-0-0-1 43-2 - Bell takes advantage of some width by easing the ball through the covers for a boundary. Oram responds by trying a couple of slower balls to no avail.
Over 9 - Mills 0-0-4-0-0-0 38-2 - Pietersen drives an overpitched delivery straight down the ground for his opening boundary, no need to run for those.
Over 8 - Oram 0-W-1-1-0-1 34-2 - Wicket! The pressure had been mounting and Cook responds by dragging a pull to Martin at mid-on. Pietersen breaks the scoreless 15-ball sequence by pushing his first delivery into the covers for a single.
Over 7 - Mills 0-0-0-0-0-0 31-1 - Ryder is currently off the field due to a sore ankle. The fleet footed Jeetan Patel is substituting. England have not scored a run from the last 13 deliveries.
Over 6 - Oram 0-0-0-0-0-0 31-1 - Oram is tossed the ball immediately for an exploratory over and starts with a maiden. It's just approaching twilight, a difficult little period for batting until the floodlights take full effect.
Over 5 - Mills 1-2-0-0-1-0 31-1 - What impact will the half-hour delay have on England? In Hamilton on Tuesday a similar delay completely destroyed their innings. It also may have freshened up the pitch for the seamers.
GETTING READY TO RETURN (0555h GMT) The rain has stopped and the covers are being removed, play will restart at 0605h (GMT) when England will chase a revised target of 229 in 47 overs.
RAIN DELAY (0537h GMT) Bad news, the rain has arrived in Auckland and the umpires waste little time in taking the players off the field. Hopefully it will be just a short break as there is a healthy wind whistling across the ground that should blow the rain on its way quickly.
Over 4 - Martin 4-0-1-4-0-0 27-1 - It is totally frenetic stuff out in the middle at the moment. Bell pulls his first delivery to the midwicket boundary in style and Cook is also into the action with a sweetly timed stroke for four to midwicket.
Over 3 - Mills 0-1-6-0-0-0 18-0 - Mustard clears the third-man boundary via a miscued hook. Wicket! Mustard becomes the seventh English batsman to be run out in the series. Vettori swoops from mid-off and hits the stumps at the non-striker's end direct after Mustard called for a single that was never on.
Over 2 - Martin 4-0-4-1-1-0 11-0 - Mustard is not messing about - Martin's loosener gets lashed through the covers for four and the dose is repeated two balls later, this time to the backward point boundary. Cook gets off the mark in more sedate fashion with a single off his hip.
Over 1 - Mills 0-0-0-+-0-0-0 1-0 - A horrible mix-up first ball of the innings almost result in Mustard being run out. Mustard came a long way down - not sure why as there was never a run on - before being forced to turn and scamper to regain his ground as cover fielder How hit the non-striker's stumps direct. He just made it. Cook edges just short of second slip to bring an end to a good first over from Mills. Can England do it, send in your predictions via the FEEDBACK.
INNINGS BREAK Jacob Oram's 88 allowed New Zealand to recover from 64-5 to post a total of 234-9. That should not be enough on what is a hard, fast pitch at a ground with short square boundaries. Join us at 0515h (GMT) to see if England's batsmen can shake off their recent poor form to chase a modest target and keep the series alive.
Over 50 - Anderson 1-1-1lb-0-1-6 234-9 - Hitchcock finishes the innings in style by stepping away and carving the final delivery over cover.
Over 49 - Sidebottom 1-1-1-1-0nb-W-1lb 224-9 - Wicket! A brilliant over-the-shoulder diving catch from Bell sends Oram on his way for 88. Oram miscued a pull shot and Bell took the catch after turning, making good ground and then judging his dive as the ball dropped over his shoulder. That brings last man Chris Martin to the crease, who Martin Crowe says 'makes Danny the duck Morrison look like Bradman'.
Over 48 - Broad 1-0-1-6-6-1 218-8 - The final over of Broad's allocation is an expensive one. Twice he digs the ball in half way down and twice Oram sends it into the crowd. Not very clever from Broad, whose first nine overs went for 17 runs and last one went for 15. He finishes with figures of 3-32.
Over 47 - Sidebottom 1-1-0-1-0-0 203-8 - Sidebottom returns and immediately dries up the runs with just three singles from the over. Collingwood is going to be fined after this match as England's over rate has been abysmal - they should have bowled all 50 by now and yet still have three left. Perhaps they should have invested in Swann after all.
Over 46 - Broad 1-0-1-1-W-1 200-8 - Wicket! Mills departs after top edging an attempted pull to be caught on the square-leg boundary by Cook. It was a good grab from the Essex batsman as it went right up in the clouds and was swirling all over the place in the wind. Hitchcock, who has been known to open in limited-overs cricket for Auckland, strolls out to join Oram.
Over 45 - Mascarenhas 1-1-2nb-6-1-1-1 196-7 - Mascarenhas pays for overstepping, the subsequent free hit disappears for six over cover from Oram's blade - superb stroke. Mascarenhas has leaked 55 runs from his seven overs.
Over 44 - Collingwood 0-1-2-1-2-1 182-7 - Kyle Mills chips a sand-wedge back over Collingwood's head, but Ian Bell - running back from mid-off - can't quite reach it and he survives.
Over 43 - Mascarenhas 1-1-+-1-1-0-1 175-7 - Oram pushes a single to complete his eighth one-day international half-century from 65 balls. I worry about Mustard standing up at the stumps without a helmet or mouth guard - am sure he's going to get one in the gob at some point. The Durham wicketkeeper has had another tidy day with the gloves.
Over 42 - Collingwood 1-4-W-0-0-0 169-7 - Vettori slams another boundary to midwicket in 'uncomplicated' style. Wicket! But his fun is ended next ball when he picks out Owais Shah on the square-leg fence attempting to repeat the dose. That brings an end to a 74-run partnership with Oram, which is the highest seventh-wicket stand for New Zealand against England in one-day internationals.
Over 41 - Mascarenhas 1-6-1-1-1-1 164-6 - Mascarenhas is again targeted as 11 runs flow from the over. Vettori dispatches a rank slog into the crowd at midwicket - that shot wouldn't have been out of place on the village green.
Over 40 - Collingwood 0-1-1-1-0-1 153-6 - Collingwood mixes up his pace and throws in the odd off cutter to good effect - just four singles from the over.
Over 39 - Mascarenhas 0-1-1-0-1-1 149-6 - One area in which England still have much room to improve on is their ability to hit the stumps direct. Another chance goes begging, this time it's Wright from mid-off with the opportunity to run out Vettori, he has two and a half stumps to aim at and misses with an underarm effort.
Over 38 - Collingwood 0-0-1-2-1-1 145-6 - Collingwood wants to save Anderson's final over for later so brings himself back on. Oram pushes a single from the final delivery to bring up the 50 partnership from 51 balls.
Over 37 - Wright 1-4-0-1-1-1 140-6 - Oram looked totally out of form during the early stages of his innings - he should have been given out lbw when on five - but is now starting to motor. The Arsenal-supporting all-rounder (Oram, not sure about Wright) clears mid-off for his fifth boundary.
Over 36 - Anderson 4-1-1-0-0-0 132-6 - Anderson is immediately back up at 88mph according to the speed gun, unfortunately it's also a leg-stump half-volley allowing Oram to help himself. The over does at least improve from that point.
Over 35 - Wright 2-1-2-1-0-0 126-6 - Wright is milked for six runs without risk. Collingwood knows this partnership holds the key to New Zealand's hopes of a competitive total and decides to roll the dice by recalling Anderson to the attack. The Lancashire paceman has just two overs left.
Over 34 - Collingwood 4-1-1-1-1-1 120-6 - The attempted slower ball comes out as a waist-high full toss which is dispatched without fuss for four by Vettori. That is followed by five singles as New Zealand just start to build some momentum.
Over 33 - Wright 1-0-1-0-0-4 111-6 - The final delivery offers too much width, allowing Oram to free his arms and send the ball racing away to the point boundary.
Over 32 - Collingwood 4-0-0-0-0-0 105-6 - Vettori smashes the first delivery after drinks to the midwicket boundary in fine style but it's followed by five dots. Anyone get any thoughts on what a decent total would be from here for New Zealand? I think they need at least 250 to be in the game, England's batting woes can't continue for a third game can they?
Over 31 - Wright 0-0-0-0-1-1 101-6 - Wright is brought into the attack for just his third over in one-day internationals. It's a tidy start from the Sussex all-rounder, going wide on the crease and angling the ball in.
Over 30 - Collingwood 1-0-W-0-0-4 99-6 - Oram hits another six - but this time it won't count as umpire Rauf was not in position when Collingwood ran in and bowled - Rauf signals dead ball, all very strange. Wicket! Taylor is given out lbw after missing as he propped forward to an inswinger. It was straight but possibly a bit high, although hawkeye says out. Daniel Vettori gets off the mark by just lofting over Anderson at mid-off.
Over 29 - Mascarenhas 0-6-1-0-1-1 94-5 - Looks like they are targeting Mascarenhas to get the innings back on track. Oram collects six with an easy swing of the bat that just clears the long-on boundary.
Over 28 - Collingwood 1-0-0-1-0-1 85-5 - More becalmed defence from New Zealand is punctuated by two stolen singles to mid-on and mid-off, Collingwood doesn't look very impressed.
Over 27 - Mascarenhas 0-0-2-1-1-6 82-5 - Taylor gets down on one knee and slogs a straight delivery over square-leg for a huge six. That came from nowhere.
Over 26 - Broad 1-0-0-0-0-0 72-5 - Change of ends for Broad who now has the wind at his back. Another leg-side single for Taylor, while later in the over Oram gets up on his toes to deal with a short ball.
Over 25 - Mascarenhas 0-1-0-0-0-0 71-5 - Collingwood continues to mix up his bowlers, they are operating in one-over spell at the moment. Taylor scurries through for a single after dropping the ball into the leg-side.
Over 24 - Sidebottom 4-0-0-0-0-0 70-5 - Collingwood brings back Sidebottom in an effort to get rid of Oram sharpish. The plan should have worked but umpire Asaf Rauf turns down an lbw appeal for reasons known only to himself. Oram was trapped on the crease as the ball hit him in front of middle stump. It's his second reprieve of the over having inside edged the first ball past his stumps and away for four, again without any foot movement.
Over 23 - Broad 1-0-0-1-0-0 66-5 - Broad's natural back of a length deliveries have been highly effective on this hard pitch - he has gone for just 12 runs from seven overs, including two wickets.
Over 22 - Collingwood 0-1-0-0-0-W 64-5 - Collingwood's decision to bring himself into the attack proves inspired.Wicket! Fulton's miserable innings of four from 25 balls is ended by a delivery that nips back between bat and pad to knock back off-stump. The bad news for England is that brings Jacob Oram to the middle.
Over 21 - Broad 0-1-0-0-0-0 63-4 - Get the feeling that Taylor is getting a bit restless, he's itching to play a big shot.
Over 20 - Sidebottom 0-0-2-0-1-0 62-4 - Wright had the opportunity to run out Fulton with a direct hit from cover. He missed and replays suggest that 'two metre' Peter might just have been safe anyway after giving it the full length dive - would have been touch and go.
Over 19 - Broad 1-0-0-1-0-1 59-4 - New Zealand are in full rebuilding mode, happy to push the odd single against England's straight accurate bowling.
Over 18 - Sidebottom 0-0-0-0-2-0 56-4 - Collingwood decides to stay on the attack by recalling Sidebottom for a second spell. Fulton collects a couple with a square drive from the penultimate delivery.
Over 17 - Broad 0-0-0-0-0-1 54-4 - Fulton breaks a streak of 13 deliveries without a run by easing a single into the leg-side to get off the mark.
Over 16 - Anderson 0-0-0-0-0-0 53-4 - Anderson continues into his eighth over and keeps Taylor on the back foot during a maiden. Feel free to send in your FEEDBACK, but no slagging off England because they've been excellent thus far.
Over 15 - Broad 1-0-2-1-W-0 53-4 - Wicket! Superb catch from Mascarenhas at midwicket gets rid of Styris. Broad dug in a surprise bouncer and Styris took the bait with a pull that he couldn't quite roll his wrists on. Mascarenhas, fielding quite close, moved to his left and stretched upwards to pluck it out of the sky.
Over 14 - Anderson 4-0-0-0-0-0 49-3 - Taylor collects his opening boundary but it's not very convincing as a thick edge flys just to the left of gully. Anderson has bowled quick today and hurried all the New Zealand batsmen, although he has benefited from having the wind behind him.
Over 13 - Broad 0-0-0-0-0-0 45-3 - Two wickets in two overs is followed by a Broad maiden. The intensity of England's fielding so far has been impressive.
Over 12 - Anderson W-0-1-3-1-0 45-3 - Wicket! Ryder is gone, caught by Mascarenhas at backward square-leg after failing to get enough bat on a pull shot. Anderson banged it in short asking to be hit, but Ryder could only get the toe end of the bat on it and the catch went straight to Mascarenhas. Both Scott Styris and Ross Taylor manage to get off the mark during the remainder of the over, although Styris almost had his head removed first ball.
Over 11 - Broad 0-0-1-W-0-0 40-2 - Wicket! How drives away from his body and the resulting edge squirts off the face of the bat to a diving Collingwood at backward point, who dives forward to complete the catch just above the turf. That brings Ross Taylor to the crease, leaves his first one alone and watchfully blocks his second.
Over 10 - Anderson 1-0-0-0-1-2 39-1 - There was some rain in Auckland this morning but, according the groundsman at least, there will be no further rain today - we'll see. Collingwood opts to enforce the second power play straightaway so the fielding restrictions remain in place for the next five overs. Stuart Broad is warming up...
Over 9 - Sidebottom 4-0-1-0-0-0 35-1 - Jamie How, who has the most orthodox technique among New Zealand's top order, makes his first contribution of note with an off-drive for four. A strong (18mph apparently) crosswind is playing havoc with Sidebottom's run up (and his hair).
Over 8 - Anderson 0-1-0-0-1-0 30-1 - Pietersen, another England player who is due a good performance, makes good ground to his left at mid-on to save three runs. Ryder looks in absolute prime form, drilling a cover drive straight at the fielder.
Over 7 - Sidebottom 0-1-0-1-0-0 28-1 - Good over from Sidebottom, right on the spot. It's already been an improved effort from England so far with the ball and in the field, although it couldn't have got any worse.
Over 6 - Anderson 0-1-1lb-0-4-0 26-1 - Another boundary for Ryder, his third, this time eased off the back foot through point. Anderson responds by going past the outside edge prompting an exchange of few words with the big man.
Over 5 - Sidebottom 1-4-0-0-1-0 20-1 - Ryder pounces on a fraction of width and sends a square drive racing away to the boundary - he's definitely not just a burly slogger.
Over 4 - Anderson 0-0-0-6-0-0 14-1 - Jesse Ryder has shown during this series that he quite likes it when England bowl short at him. Anderson drops one in and Ryder picks it up off his hip and dumps it into the square-leg stand, saw plenty of that Hamilton on Tuesday.
Over 3 - Sidebottom 0-0-0-1-0-0 8-1 - The pitch has good pace and carry and Botham says it is the hardest deck he has seen for some time. There has also been a little bit of swing for both bowlers during the opening three overs.
Over 2 - Anderson 1-0-0-0-W-0 7-1 - McCullum fails for the first time in the series. He's unable to get his hands underneath a short delivery that tails back at him and the result is a gloved catch to Alastair Cook at second slip. The previous ball had also been a bouncer forcing McCullum to abort his charge down the pitch.
Over 1 - Sidebottom +-0-0-0-1-0-4 6-0 - Brendon McCullum chips the final delivery straight back down the ground for the opening boundary to ruin an otherwise good first over from Ryan Sidebottom. The square boundaries are very short at Eden Park - it is normally a rugby ground - meaning we should be in for a high-scoring match.

PITCH REPORT Ian Botham says 'there are a lot of runs in this' as he points down at a bone dry, straw coloured surface at Eden Park. Collingwood's decision to stick New Zealand in is likely to have been influenced by the pathetic batting displays during the opening two games of the series rather than any hope that the pitch is going to offer assistance to his bowling attack, which does not include a specialist spinner.
CHANGES England captain Paul Collingwood has won the toss and opted to field first. There are two changes to the line-up with Luke Wright and Dimitri Mascarenhas replacing Ravinder Bopara and Graeme Swann. New Zealand make one change with seam bowler Paul Hitchcock coming in for his first one-day international appearance for four years in place of Michael Mason, who has a side strain.
GOOD MORNING and welcome to skysports.com's over-by-over commentary from the third one-day international between New Zealand and England in Auckland. After heavy defeats in the opening two games, England must win to keep the series alive. Play starts at 0100h (GMT), join us then...
