NEW ZEALAND WIN BY ONE WICKET AND LEAD THE SERIES 2-1 A last-ball thriller goes the way of New Zealand. The Black Caps will be celebrating that one long into the night - post-match handshakes were at a premium between the two sides, there is clearly no love lost over England's decision to run out the stricken Elliott earlier in the run chase. Join us again on 1045h (BST) on Saturday for the decider at Lord's with England requiring a victory for a share of the series.

Over 50 - Wright 1-0-0-0-0-2 246-9 - Wright steps up for the final over. A short ball is pulled for a single by Mills to bring Gillespie onto strike with two needed. Gillespie flirts and misses at a length-ball outside off-stump. The third delivery is straighter but again on a length and Gillespie blocks on the front foot. The fourth delivery is an action replay of the second, a play and miss outside off-stump. Two needed from two now - bat on ball is the order of the day for the Kiwis now....Two required off the last ball after Gillespie drives straight back to Wright who fields in his follow through...Gillespie drives to Swann in the covers and his shy at the non-striker's stumps misses - unbelievably nobody manages to back it up (Bell left it in the belief that it was going to hit the stumps) and the Kiwis scamper back for the second to complete the win. New Zealand win by one wicket!

Over 49 - Collingwood 0-0-6-1-1-1 243-9 - Mills plays-and-misses twice, but not on the third occasion as he sends a short delivery into the stand at midwicket - it carried 106 metres and they can't find the ball - someone has pocketed a nice souvenir from their day out at the Oval. Collingwood is now armed with another 'new' old ball. Mills pushes a single down the ground to bring Gillespie onto strike with two balls remaining. Gillespie follows his partner's lead and pushes a single in the same area to leave four required from seven balls. Mills chips a single to midwicket to retain the strike for the the final over with three required.

Over 48 - Swann 0-0-0-0-0-0 234-9 - Swann is back on to bowl the final over of his 10. Dropped! Gillespie inside edges a defensive shot but Ambrose cannot cling on behind the stumps, it bounced a bit more than expected. A maiden leaves Mills on strike with New Zealand needing 12 from 12 balls.

Over 47 - Collingwood 0-1-0-0-1-0 234-9 - Wicket! Another run out, this time there is nothing controversial about it - Bell swooped in from cover and hit direct at the non-striker's end to send Southee on his way. Mills has only last man Gillespie for company with New Zealand still requiring 12 from 18 balls.

Over 46 - Sidebottom 2-1lb-1-1-0-0 232-8 - Sidebottom bowls out his 10-over allocation as New Zealand's ninth-wicket pair of Mills and Southee inch them closer to what would be a famous win. They require 14 runs from 24 balls.

Over 45 - Broad 0-1-4-1-0-1 227-8 - Lost in the excitement of the previous over is the fact that we still have a game on. Broad completes his 10-over allocation by conceding seven runs from the over, including to a pulled four by Mills, to leave New Zealand requiring 19 from the final 30 balls. The question that is raised by the Elliott dismissal is whether it is fair to run someone out when they are lying injured following a mid-pitch collision that was not their fault? I would say no, but Collingwood (who discussed it with umpire Benson before confirming his side's appeal) disagreed.

Over 44 - Sidebottom 1-1-1-0-0-0 220-8 - Collingwood realises there is no point saving Sidebottom's final two overs for the death - now or never for England. Wicket! Elliott is gone in controversial fashion - England appeal for a run out after a mid-pitch collision involving Sidebottom and Elliott. With both men prone on the ground, Bell scoops up the loose ball and throws to Pietersen who whips off the bails at the non-striker's end. After some discussion with the umpires, Collingwood confirms the appeal and Elliott is given out. Elliott is clearly out according to the letter of the law but that is bad sportsmanship from England and it looks uglier every time you see the replay. The camera pans to the New Zealand balcony and they are not happy - if you want to react to that incident, send in your views via the FEEDBACK icon.

Over 43 - Broad 1-1-1-0-0-0 217-7 - Broad, who has two overs left, is back on but can't make the breakthrough despite banging in a series of rapid short balls with Bell positioned under the helmet at short-leg. New Zealand require 29 runs off 42 balls.

Over 42 - Swann 1-3-4-0-1-1 214-7 - Time for Collingwood to get Broad and Sidebottom back into the attack after Swann concedes 10 runs from his ninth over, including a deliberate steer down to the third-man boundary by Elliott, who is looking composed. New Zealand require 32 off 48 balls, England need three wickets.

Over 41 - Collingwood 3-1-4-0-0-1 204-7 - Not clever bowling from Collingwood as New Zealand take nine from the over. Elliott picks up three to midwicket and follows up later in the over with a paddle-pulled four after Collingwood drops short. New Zealand require 42 off 54 balls.

Over 40 - Swann 1-0-1-0-2-1 195-7 - Mills and Elliott milk the available ones and twos with the field still spread, that will do it for the Kiwis, who need 51 runs off the last 10 overs.

Over 39 - Collingwood 4-0-0-W-+-0-0 190-7 - Wicket! Vettori chips Collingwood's slower ball to Bopara at straight midwicket. The Essex all-rounder tumbles to his right to complete a nice catch. That brings Kyle Mills, who can definitely bat a bit, out to join Elliott. New Zealand need 56 off the final 11 overs, the required rate (5.09) is still not a problem.

Over 38 - Swann 0-1-4-1-0-1 185-6 - After his heroic fielding during the previous over, Collingwood gives Swann another try with ball in hand. He's unlucky not to get rid of Elliott, whose thin inside edge beats everything and races away to the boundary - no justice for the off-spinner.

Over 37 - Collingwood 0-1-1-0-1-0 178-6 - Wicket! Styris' charmed innings comes to an end after he is run out coming back for a second. Swann threw to the non-striker's end where the lumbering Styris (he looks very unfit) could not get home before Collingwood whipped off the stumps. The pressure is now on Elliott with 68 needed from the final 13 overs. In New Zealand's favour, the required rate of 5.23 is not really a problem.

Over 36 - Broad 1-0-1-0-0-0 175-5 - There is a half chance of a run out as Elliott sends Styris back. Broad kicks the ball at the stumps after following through, he misses and replays indicate the diving Styris was just about safe anyway. New Zealand need 71 runs off 14 overs at a required rate of 5.07.

Over 35 - Anderson 2-+-0-1-2-0-W- 173-5 - The ICC recently introduced a mandatory ball change after 34 overs in one-day internationals, so England have a 'new' old ball to work with. Wicket! One delivery after an awkward fend from in front of his throat, Oram takes on the pull but only manages to deposit it into the hands of sub fielder Alastair Cook on the square-leg boundary. Cue much fist-pumping from Jimmy, Colly and the boys - they are back in it.

Over 34 - Broad 1-0-1-0-1lb-0 167-4 - The big guns are on at both ends with Broad, who has four overs left, back into the attack, Collingwood knows it's now or never for his team. Good pace from Broad but he can't make the breakthrough with a succession of short-pitched deliveries. New Zealand require 79 runs from 16 overs at a required rate of 4.93.

Over 33 - Sidebottom 4-1-1-1-0-4 164-4 - England badly need a wicket therefore Collingwood decides to recall Sidebottom, who only has three of his 10 overs left. It's not a glorious return from the left-armer as Styris helps a leg-stump offering on its way to start the over and bring up the 50 fifth-wicket stand. Oram finishes off the over with a classic off-drive.

Over 32 - Bopara 0-1-2-1-1-4 153-4 - Collingwood rolls the dice again with the introduction of Bopara's medium pace. It doesn't really work out as nine runs are taken from the over, including Oram's fourth boundary, run off an open face down to third-man.

Over 31 - Collingwood 4-0-1-0-1-2 144-4 - Oram collects another boundary, this time with a square-drive. Collingwood is all over the place and is lucky to concede only eight from the over. New Zealand are back in control with 102 runs needed from 19 overs at a required rate of 5.36.

Over 30 - Swann 4-1-1-4-2-1 136-4 - Oram twice sweeps from outside off-stump to the square-leg boundary, it's a risky shot but both times it came off the middle. Thirteen runs flow from the over as the Black Caps seize back the momentum.

Over 29 - Collingwood 0-0-1-1-1-1 123-4 - Collingwood brings himself on for the first time today and makes a solid start - four singles are conceded with the field spread far and wide. New Zealand require another 123 runs at a required rate of 5.85.

Over 28 - Swann 1-0-0-1-0-5+-0 119-4 - Swann is charged with five wides as a leg-side delivery heads down to fine-leg. Replays indicate Oram got a thin edge on the way but the umpire didn't spot it (and neither did I until viewing the replay).

Over 27 - Anderson 1-0-0-0-1-4 112-4 - An uppercut from Styris falls just short of Swann as he moves forward from the third-man boundary. Jacob Oram prods around for a few balls before getting his first run with a drive into the off-side. Styris completes his half-century (60b 7x4) with a sweetly-timed cover drive for his seventh boundary, although he's been dropped three times on the way.

Over 26 - Swann 0-1-0-1-1-W 106-4 - Wicket! Flynn gifts his wicket by top-edging a slog-sweep that loops up to Bell in the covers. The delivery pitched in the footmarks and possibly held up a bit, but it was another silly shot in a match that has been full of them.

Over 25 - Anderson 1-1-0-1-0-4- 103-3 - Collingwood's search for another breakthrough leads him to recall Anderson for another spell, he only has three of his 10-over allocation remaining. Flynn, who had his teeth rearranged by an Anderson bouncer during the Test series, finds the midwicket boundary with an emphatic pull after Anderson dug one in an effort to bring some unhappy memories to the forefront of Flynn's mind.

Over 24 - Swann 0-0-0-1-3-1 96-3 - Flynn seems to heavily favour the leg-side, working another three off the stumps out to midwicket where Broad makes a diving stop to save a run.

Over 23 - Broad 1-0-0-0-1-1 91-3 - Since How's dismissal, Styris has had to tone down his 'swing at anything' style. The required-rate is rising steadily, nothing to worry about yet as it's still under six an over (5.74), but the danger signs are there for New Zealand.

Over 22 - Swann 0-0-1-0-0-0 88-3 - Swann is not getting much turn, there is no grip on the surface and he doesn't really put enough revolutions on the ball to generate much spin, but he is flighting it nicely, getting it up above the eye-line. Just a single for Styris into the leg-side.

Matt Radymski says: "Well, well Mr Commentator, guess New Zealand are not crusing now as England were further ahead at this stage of their innings, so I guess my prediction could be right :)" For the gamblers out there, Skybet currently price an England victory at 5/6, while New Zealand are also 5/6.

Over 21 - Broad 0-0-+-1-2-0-0 87-3 - the left-handed Flynn has joined Styris in the middle and is quick to get off-the-mark with a couple clipped out to midwicket. England were 98-3 at the corresponding stage of their innings.

Over 20 - Swann 0-1-0-0-1-W 83-3 Off-spinner Swann is brought on for the final powerplay over, after this one the fielding restrictions are relaxed for the remainder of the innings. Wicket! Swann does the trick as How plays too early and sends a leading edge looping up for the bowler to complete the simplest of return catches.

Over 19 - Broad 1-0-0-0-1-1 81-2 - Broad breaks the 90mph barrier on more than one occasion during the over, although it has to be said that it doesn't look all that quick. New Zealand are cruising with a further 165 runs required from 31 overs.

Over 18 - Wright 4-0-0-0-1-0 78-2 - Not a good start from Wright as a leg-stump delivery is eased to the fine-leg boundary by How. The over improves from that point with just a further single for the fleet-footed How, dropped into the off-side.

Over 17 - Broad 1-0-0-4-1-1 73-2 - Dropped! Styris completes the hat-trick of dropped chances by pushing a drive back to Broad, who - needless to say - doesn't manage to cling on. Easier than Collingwood's but harder than Shah's. Wry grins all round before Styris celebrates his latest reprieve with his sixth boundary, slapped through the covers.

Over 16 - Anderson 0-0-0-1-0-0 66-2 - Collingwood saves some runs at backward with a diving stop. Good over from Anderson, full and straight with just a single from it, pushed into the covers by How.

Over 15 - Broad 1-0-1-0-0-1 65-2 - Dropped! Collingwood diving to his left at backward point can only parry an edged drive from Styris - it was a tough one but he has taken them in the past.

Over 14 - Anderson +-0-0-0-1-0-0 62-2 - Anderson back into the attack, presumably so that Broad can take over from Sidebottom at the other end.

One or two e-maillers are not happy with Mr Swazza's comment (see Over 9), including Dave Walker, who writes: "As an Irishman, I'm telling Adam Swazza to look at the relative size of Scotland and Ireland compared to England in terms of players to draw upon. He also needs to look at the fact that England have taken Ireland's and Scotland's best players for the one-day game over the past few years!" Not sure Dougie Brown and Ed Joyce set the world alight in an England one-day shirt but I take the point - England are underachievers in one-day cricket, of that there is little doubt.

Over 13 - Sidebottom 1-4-0-3-0-1 60-2 - Styris is swinging at everything since being given a life. Either side of a play-and-miss he finds the third-man boundary and picks up three through the covers. How steals a single to mid-off to retain the strike. New Zealand require a further 186 runs at a rate of 5.03 per over.

Over 12 - Broad 0-4-+-0-0-0-0 51-2 - Broad comes into the attack but there is no stopping Styris at the moment as another cover drive races away.

Kieran says: "In reply to Adam Swazza - Ok then, I'm following the Irish!" Not a bad shout seen as they got as far as England at the last World Cup.

Over 11 - Sidebottom 4-4-0-1-4-0 46-2 - Styris is enjoying himself with consecutive boundaries to start the over, both powerful drives through the off-side. Shah will be starting to get that sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. How joins in the fun with a four off his own, this time working a rare bad delivery from Sidebottom down to the fine-leg fence.

Over 10 - Anderson 0-0-0-1-1-0 33-2 - Athletic fielding from Bell on the cover boundary saves three runs. England are going to take their second powerplay straightaway therefore the fielding restrictions remain in place for the next five overs.

Over 9 - Sidebottom 4-0-0-1-1-0 31-2 - Styris twists the knife with a flowing drive to the cover boundary, have England missed the boat?

Adam Swazza says: "All negs towards any English team gets right on my nerves. We will win this game and the next one-dayer. Too quick to jump on the bandwagon, nearly hoping we lose. Disgrace. If you don't think England cricket is good enough just go and follow the Irish or the Scots."

Over 8 - Anderson 0-0-1-0-0-0 25-2 - Dropped! Scott Styris, after a predictable greeting of two bouncers, slices his third delivery straight to Shah at second slip, who shells it. The chance was at head height and about as easy as they get in the slip cordon.

Over 7 - Sidebottom 0-1-2-0-1lb-W 24-2 - Wicket! Crazy shot from Taylor - a slog across the line at a full delivery goes straight up into the clouds. When it eventually hurtles back towards earth, Broad at mid-on safely is position to pouch the catch. Similar on the scale of ugliness to the shot Pietersen played this morning.

Over 6 - Anderson 0-0-0-0-2-4- 20-1 - How collects his second boundary. Again it comes from a square-cut after Anderson offers too much width outside off-stump, it was asking for it.

Jonnie is the first glass half-full man to e-mail in for a while, saying: "I think our bowlers can do it. The Kiwis will have a sense of over confidence which will play to our advantage. We just need to be consistent and keep on attacking. If we do that, the wickets will fall."

Over 5 - Sidebottom +-0-0-0-0-0-0 14-1 - England's flame-haired paceman is pumped up - the speed gun registers 88mph. Just a wide from the over as Taylor struggles to lay willow on leather. There is no seam or swing even with the new ball but there is a helpful cross-breeze that has picked up in the last half-hour.

Over 4 - Anderson 0-0-1-0-1-0 13-1 - Anyone think England's bowlers can pull this one out of the fire? Use the FEEDBACK icon to get in touch, have only had negative e-mails from England fans in the last hour or so. Pietersen's day keeps getting worse - he requires some treatment after a nasty looking collision with Taylor, both men were looking at the ball as they came together near the bowling crease while the Kiwis completed a quick single. The physio checks out KP and deems him fit to continue.

Over 3 - Sidebottom 0-W-0-4-0-0 11-1 - Wicket! McCullum is gone, caught at first slip by Swann after driving at a very wide delivery without moving his feet. He did well to reach it but Sidebottom will take what he can get. Taylor is the new batsman and signals his arrival with a square drive that races away to the boundary - it was in the air for quite while though. Encouraging signs for England.

Over 2 - Anderson 1-0-0-1-4-0 7-0 - Wright misfields at midwicket to gift How another single. How dispatches New Zealand's opening boundary by latching onto some width with a square cut that Bopara cannot cut off, despite putting in the dive.

Over 1 - Sidebottom 0-0-0-0-0-1 1-0 - Sidebottom takes the first over with England in need of early wickets, in particular the scalp of McCullum would do nicely. Just a single from the final delivery for McCullum's opening partner How.

INNINGS BREAK England's effort of 245 all out looks well below-par on a belting wicket at the Oval. Despite half-centuries from Ravi Bopara and Owais Shah, it was a poor effort from England, who contrived to lose a wicket every time they looked to be seizing the momentum. It was disciplined, unspectacular stuff from New Zealand, who now face a modest run chase to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Join us at 1500h (BST) to see if England's bowlers can pull this one out of the bag.

Over 50 - Gillespie 1-1-1-0 245ao - Wicket! Sidebottom's luck runs out from the fourth delivery of the final over with a simple run out. He pushed the ball straight to the fielder in the covers and took off for a single that was never on - Gillespie completed the run out with plenty of time to spare.

Over 49 - Southee 0-0-0-4-0-+-0-4 242-9 - Anderson plays-and-misses twice before dancing down and slicing a drive to third-man for a welcome boundary. A wild bouncer - it pitched just in front of Southee's toes - is called wide and Anderson finishes the over by edging between the 'keeper and a floating slip for another four.

Over 48 - Gillespie 0-1-1-1-+-1-0 233-9 - Some interesting adventures with the running between the wickets but the last-wicket pair survive - England could yet bat out their overs.

Over 47 - Southee 0-1-0-0-1-W 228-9 - Wicket! Broad replicates Swann's dismissal - slicing a Caribbean-style drive to How. That leaves Sidebottom with just James Anderson for company during the final three overs of the innings.

Over 46 - Oram 1-1-1-1-0-2 226-8 - Wicket! Direct hit from Gillespie near the extra cover boundary sends Shah back to the pavilion. He only has himself to blame, calling for a second run after dawdling the first one. Gillespie has a rocket arm and the TV umpire confirmed he had caught a diving Shah just short. Sidebottom joins Broad with England now relying on their bowlers to get up to anything approaching a respectable total.

Over 45 - Mills W-0-0-0-0-1 220-7 - Wicket! Swann slices a drive to Jamie How in the gully - a tame dismissal. Stuart Broad swishes at two of his first three deliveries but fails to make any contact. He does manage to retain the strike with a single down to third-man.

Over 44 - Oram 1-0-0-1-2-2 219-6 - The e-mails calling for Ambrose's head have already started to arrive - at least he might make up some runs with the gloves later on, unlike some of the candidates to replace him. Good running from Swann turns one into two to finish the over.

Over 43 - Mills 1-1-1-4-1-1 213-6 - Swann almost holes out to a diving Gillespie on the third-man fence, it just dropped short. Shah sends a full toss to the extra-cover boundary.

Over 42 - Oram 0-0-0-W-2-0 204-6 - Wicket! Ambrose pulls a short ball straight down Daniel Flynn's throat on the square-leg boundary. It was a poor delivery - a half-tracker - and deserved to disappear for six, but Ambrose didn't hit it hard enough. Graeme Swann walks out to join Shah.

Over 41 - Vettori 1-2-1-0-0-1 203-5 - Shah completes his fifth ODI half-century (63b, 3x4 2x6) with a cut single. His solitary three-figure score in this format came on this ground against India in September 2007.

Over 40 - Gillespie 4-4-+-0-4-0-0 198-5 - Back-to-back boundaries to start the over - Shah drives back over Gillespie's head and follows up to find the midwicket fence. Four more for Shah later in the over, again sending a drive back from where it came. Thirteen runs from the over make it England's best of the innings.

Over 39 - Vettori 2-0-1-0-1-1 185-5 - The door is open for New Zealand so Vettori bring himself back on, he has four overs left. Shah gets a couple to midwicket from the first delivery but it's singles only thereafter.

Over 38 - Gillespie 1-W-0-3-0-1 180-5 - Wicket! Gillespie's return does the trick as Bopara drives too early and sends a simple catch to Oram at mid-off. There was nothing special about the delivery, it wasn't a slower ball, Bopara just got himself out. Tim Ambrose strolls out and clips his second delivery through midwicket for three - that is already his highest score in this format.

Over 37 - Elliott 1-1-1-1-1-0 175-4 - England need to press the launch button soon. Elliott's medium pace is ordinary - he should not be allowed to just trundle through an over with just singles being taken.

Over 36 - Oram 1-0-4-1-1-0 170-4 - Bopara drives on-the-up through the covers for his seventh boundary. After looking out of sorts early on he has turned things around nicely, although I still think England need a big finish to get near a par-score on this deck.

Over 35 - Elliott 1-+-0-1-0-4-0 163-4 - Everyone's favourite South African-born New Zealand all-rounder is into the attack for the first time today. It's not a great start from Grant Elliott as seven runs flow from it, including a clipped four from Bopara through the leg-side that takes him to a half-century (69b 6x4).

Over 34 - Oram 4-1-2-0-1-1 156-4 - Bopara gets a genuine edge down to third-man for his fifth boundary. England look a bit more urgent now, Shah is denied four by a diving stop on the midwicket boundary that saved a couple of runs.

Over 33 - Vettori 1-0-6-0-1-1 147-4 - Shah clears the extra-cover boundary with a lofted drive. Incredible shot, he just leaned back, followed through and then held the pose like a golfer while admiring the shot. Time for another drinks break, these boys need to keep their fluid levels up.

Nick Rhead says: "Why not give Mustard a chance at the expense of Ambrose? He never deserved to be dropped in the first place as he did nothing wrong, then with Mustard opening we can play Wright at seven instead of Ambrose. Both problems sorted because Ambrose can't seem to bat at one-day international level."

Over 32 - Oram 0-0-0-0-1-0 138-4 - Oram produces a fine over to start his second spell with good bounce generated from just outside off-stump. Bopara plays-and-misses at a couple before working a single to get off strike. England appear content to set a platform for a late charge at the moment.

Over 31 - Vettori 1-1-+-1-0-1-1 137-4 - With the field scattered far and wide, singles are the order of the day for England against Vettori, it makes for less-than thrilling viewing.

Over 30 - Mills 0-1-1-4-0-1 131-4 - That blow to the helmet appears to have woken up Bopara, who greets Mills' return with an elegant cover driven boundary. His timing seems to have magically reappeared during the last 10 minutes.

Over 29 - Vettori 124-4 - Shah is unable to rotate the strike and ends up playing out a maiden.

Nathan Gratrix says: "We don't seem to have a batsman who can hang around and knock the ball around for ones and twos. We need another Thorpe or going further back a Fairbrother - someone we can build the innings around." A point Shah has just illustrated.

Over 28 - Southee 1-1-1-0-0-4- 124-4 - Bopara's attempt to hook ends with the ball lodged in the gap between his helmet peak and grille, the second time he has worn a short ball today. After a lengthy delay for a change of grille, the final ball of the over is driven down the ground just to the leg-side of straight - good reply from Bopara.

Over 27 - Vettori 4-0-0-1-0-1 117-4 - Much more like it from Bopara, dancing down the pitch and chipping into the leg-side for just his second boundary (the first was an edge from his very first delivery).

Over 26 - Southee 1-0-6-0-0-0 111-4 - Shah plants his front foot and fetches the ball from outside off-stump all the way for six into the crowd at midwicket - a rank slog but he collects six for it.

Over 25 - Vettori 1-0-0-0-0-0 104-4 - England have got to try and unsettle Vettori, they cannot just allow him to drop it on the same line-and-length as he has in his opening two overs.

Over 24 - Southee 0-0-0-0-0-0 103-4 - Southee has impressed during his spell today, the pitch demands total accuracy and he has been up to the task. Has got quicker with each over.

Chris Griffiths says: "I am watching this game online at my work desk and am wondering why Robert Key is not back in the England squad yet. He has performed terrific over the past few years and his performances in short games like Twenty20 and one dayers surely should warrant an opening batsman slot. It is what we are missing I think."

Over 23 - Vettori 0-0-1-0-0-1 103-4 - Vettori decides it's time for a change of pace and introduces himself into the attack. The Black Caps skipper makes a solid start, dropping straight onto a length and conceding just a couple of singles.

Over 22 - Southee 0-2-1lb-0-0-W 101-4 - Bopara has looked woefully out of form thus far, although he does at least manage to collect two off his hip and then a single off his helmet after aborting an attempt to take on a short ball. Southee is up to 87mph according to the always-reliable speed gun. Wicket! Collingwood is not so lucky in this over as an inside-edged defensive prod makes a mess of his stumps. Owais Shah is next with England approaching crisis point.

Simon Stevens says: "England seem to lack any 'flat track bullies', we never seem to make huge scores on good batting tracks." A fair point, where's Graeme Hick when you need him?

Over 21 - Oram 0-0-1-2-0-4 98-3 - Collingwood enjoys a stroke of fortune as his attempted square cut goes off his inside edge back past leg-stump and down to the fine-leg boundary.

Over 20 - Southee 0-1-4-0-4-0 91-3 - Collingwood immediately takes a liking to Southee's offerings. The England skipper finds the boundary twice with a straight drive and a heave over midwicket.

Over 19 - Oram 0-0-0-1-0-0 82-3 - Bopara is certainly taking his time with plenty of solid defensive strokes, but not much in the way hitting the ball off the square. There is just one over remaining with the fielding restrictions in place.

Over 18 - Southee 0-1-2lb-4-W-0 81-3 - Southee drops short and wide, allowing Bell to help himself to a boundary behind square on the off-side. Wicket! The teenage seamer gets his revenge with a short delivery that Bell attempts to upper cut down to third-man, but instead only manages to edge through to McCullum behind the stumps. Paul Collingwood arrives at the crease with a captain's innings required - he defends his first ball on the back foot.

Over 17 - Oram 0-1-0-0-1-0 74-2 - Oram's tall enough to get some good bounce out of this surface but it also works against him by virtually taking lbw out of the equation - consequently he can be milked for singles on either side of the wicket without any risk. Is that enough for England?

Over 16 - Southee 1-0-0-1-1-0 72-2 - Southee takes us to the first drinks break of the day with a fairly gentle over that is taken for just three singles.

Norbert Chukwumah says: "What's the problem with KP? It's like he either gets out cheaply or goes on to tons when he is set. He needs to show bit more consistency and get the 40s and 50s that are often enough for the one-day game."

Over 15 - Oram 0-4-0-1-0-0 69-2 - Double change from Vettori sees Oram on for his first bowl of the series. The big man is returning from the strained hamstring he suffered during the warm-up for the Twenty20 international earlier this month. Bell greets his arrival in fine style, driving straight down the ground in effortless fashion for another four.

Over 14 - Southee 0-0-0-2-0-1 64-2 - First bowling change of the day sees Southee brought into the attack. The 19-year-old cranks it up to 85mph in his first over, quicker than I've seen from him before, although it's all straight up and down. Could he be the man for England to target while the fielding restrictions remain in place?

Over 13 - Mills 4-0-0-0-4-1 61-2 - Bell finds the boundary twice in the over with sweetly timed strokes on either side of the wicket. The onus is on the Warwickshire batsman to turn his promising start into a large (100+) score, something at which he has generally not excelled in the past.

Over 12 - Gillespie 0-0-0-0-0-0 52-2 - New Zealand still to make a bowling change as Gillespie continues into his sixth over. Bopara leaves plenty alone during a maiden - the Essex batsman looks nervous and acutely aware that he needs a score soon to justify his position at number four.

Over 11 - Mills 0-0-1-2-0-1 52-2 - New Zealand enforce the second powerplay straightaway so the fielding restrictions remain in place for the next five overs. Bopara gets off the mark with a couple off his pads.

Daniel Bailey says: "Do people not understand how good of a bowler Luke Wright is? How can you recall Prior? This would weaken the bowling attack. I think Luke Wright is perfect for the opening job."

Over 10 - Gillespie 0-3-W-4-0-0 48-2 - Wicket! Awful judgement from Pietersen, who pulls his second delivery straight up in the air - Southee takes the resulting skier at mid-on. The delivery was just not short enough and also had to be fetched from outside off-stump - one to forget for KP. Ravi Bopara edges his first ball through the vacant third slip region for a boundary.

Kevin Mitchell says: "Forget recalling Matt Prior - he doesn't have the technique to succeed at international level. David Sales is the guy who deserves his chance to step up - the cleanest hitter of a ball in county cricket!" Agree that Sales can bat, but where do you hide him in the field (slip?), he's not exactly a gazelle.

Over 9 - Mills 0-1lb-0-0-W-0 41-1 -Wicket! Ross Taylor plucks a brilliant one-handed catch out of the air at midwicket to get rid of Wright. The Sussex all-rounder middled a pull shot, but it went in the direction Taylor who stuck up his right hand and made the catch look easy. He is probably the only man on the field who would have caught that so Wright can count himself a bit unlucky. Kevin Pietersen enters the fray and blocks his first delivery.

Over 8 - Gillespie 0-0-0-0-0-4 40-0 - Wright shuffles across and glances the final delivery of the over down to the fine-leg boundary. He was starting to get a bit desperate after a succession of wild swings and mistimed strokes failed to yield anything.

Barry Bethel (!) e-mails in to say: "Bell is a classy player, but can't help but feel England could do with another big hitter at the top of the order. What about giving Napier a go after last night? In fact - why not pick him, Jason Gallian and James Foster to bat alongside Ravi Bopara." Not an Essex fan by any chance Barry?

Over 7 - Mills 2-0-1-0-0 36-0 - Wright is trying to belt every delivery out of the park with limited success - he does manage a couple with a lofted drive back past Mills and a single skewed to midwicket with plenty of bottom hand involved.

David Morgan (presumably not the ICC president?) is not a Wright fan, saying: "Wright is not suited to international cricket, I would give Prior a recall as a batsman and open the batting with him. He has been doing a great job this season!"

Over 6 - Gillespie 4-1-4-2-0-0 33-0 - Wright finds the boundary with a thick outside edge that flys down to third-man. Bell also joins in the fun with a four of his own, forced through the covers in elegant fashion. "An absolute cracking pitch, the outfield is lightning fast..it's going to be a very high scoring day," says Ian Smith in the commentary box. England should be thinking about 300+....

Over 5 - Mills 0-0-0-0-2-+-1 22-0 - It's definitely going to be a tough day for the seam bowlers, there is no seam or swing movement at all. Perhaps there will be something in it for the spinners. A typical Oval wicket - good bounce and batsmen get full value for their strokes.

Over 4 - Gillespie 2-0nb-6nb-0-0-0 18-0 - Gillespie oversteps to gift England another free hit, this time Bell dispatches it over point for six, and it's another front-foot no-ball! (Although the replays show it to be a harsh call). Bell tries the same shot, backing away and attempting a flay over the off-side, only this time he doesn't make any contact. Time for Gillespie to take a rest I reckon...

Over 3 - Mills 0-0-0-0-1-2 8-0 - Bell breaks a run of 11 dots by working a single down to square-leg. Wright upper-cuts down to third-man, where Tim Southee's mis-field turns one into two.

Over 2 - Gillespie 0-0-0-0-0-0 5-0 - Mark Gillespie starts with a maiden, all six deliveries just back of a length on or outside off-stump. Wright hits a couple of drives straight at fielders but can't rotate the strike. Not sure if Wright is perfectly suited to opening the batting in international cricket - looks great when the ball is pitched up, but not so clever against shorter-pitched bowling - and he's obviously going to get plenty of that at the top of the order. Perhaps better off coming in during the final 10 overs of the innings?

Over 1 - Mills 0nb-1-0-1-0-2-0 5-0 - Kyle Mills starts with a front-foot no-ball to immediately allow England an opportunity to lay down a marker from the subsequent free hit - Ian Bell manages a single. There is also a single for Luke Wright, tapped into the leg-side. Bell collects a couple down to fine-leg as Mills drops too short. We've had one over and I can already say with certainty that this is a belting wicket for batting, full of runs.

TEAM NEWS England make just one change from the side that lost the third ODI - Ryan Sidebottom is fit to return from a back injury and replaces Chris Tremlett. Ian Bell has been passed fit following his injury scare yesterday (he tweaked a knee playing touch rugby) and will open the batting alongside Luke Wright shortly. New Zealand are boosted by the return to fitness of Jacob Oram for his first appearance of the series. There is no place for Gareth Hopkins, consequently Brendon McCullum will keep wicket.

GOOD MORNING Welcome to over-by-over commentary from the fourth ODI between England and New Zealand at the Oval. Black Caps skipper Daniel Vettori won the toss and has opted to bowl first, play starts at 1045h (BST), join us then.
