Matt Nicholson returns to bolster Surrey's bowling attack for the visit to the Riverside.

The Australian fast bowler missed the season-opening draw against Lancashire due to a virus but has now recovered.

Nicholson will replace either James Ormond or Chris Jordan in an otherwise unchanged XI.

Meanwhile, Liam Plunkett is struggling with a sore side - although the paceman has nevertheless been included in Durham's 13-man squad.

Fellow England fast bowler Steve Harmison is also included, with Neil Killeen and Mark Davies possible alternatives should Plunkett ultimately miss out.

Harmison's brother, Ben, is also included, along with Paul Wiseman - the former New Zealand off-spinner being preferred to Gareth Breese.

Having already top-scored with 77 in their Friends Provident Trophy win over Yorkshire, South African Neil McKenzie is also set to make his Championship debut.
