Mascarenhas: Back from the IPL

Dimitri Mascarenhas returns from his stint in the Indian Premier League to captain Hampshire against Surrey.

The all-rounder played just once in the Twenty20 competition for the Rajasthan Royals, taking 2-29 in the three-wicket win over the Delhi Daredevils on Sunday.

Now he is back to lead his county and his return has come at a crucial time with Hampshire missing overseas star Shane Bond.

Wicketkeeper Nic Pothas is also ruled out with a calf injury, meaning Tim Burrows takes over behind the stumps.

Another major absentee for the home side is veteran batsman John Crawley, who is sidelined with a side problem.

Chris Benham comes in to take his place in a batting order that is also boosted by the return of Michael Carberry from England Lions duty.

After making his debut in the drawn game with Somerset at Taunton, schoolboy Hamza Riazuddin has returned to Bradfield College.

Schofield sidelined

Surrey will have to do without spinner Chris Schofield, who has broken his left thumb.

His place in the 13-man squad goes to Murtaza Hussain, meaning the visitors will travel with two spinners to the Rose Bowl.

Jimmy Ormond and Jade Dernbach appear to be battling it out for the final seam bowling spot in the starting XI.

The match could be a special one for batsman Mark Ramprakash. A ton against Hampshire would see the right-hander become just the 25th player to score a century of centuries in the first-class game.
