Flintoff: winning fitness battle
Andew Flintoff will resume his first-class career on Sunday when Lancashire travel to Sussex for their LV County Championship Division One fixture.
The all-rounder's hopes of an England recall following winter ankle surgery were ruined after he suffered a side strain seven weeks ago.
But he has since made a gradual comeback in the second XI and Twenty20 Cup, including a haul of 4-12 in two overs of Friday evening's no result at Durham.
New Zealand batsman Lou Vincent, brought in as a short-term replacement for Brad Hodge, remains in Lancashire's starting XI with the Australian batsman still away on international duty.
Sussex welcome back leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed returns after he missed their Twenty20 campaign with a knee injury.
England all-rounder Luke Wright is also available despite his involvement in the fifth NatWest Series one-day international against New Zealand at Lord's on Saturday.
But former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Smith will have to wait for his first-class debut after signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the county this week.
