Somerset will rest Andrew Caddick for the trip to Durham in the LV County Championship.

The veteran seam bowler recently returned to action following a neck injury but the Cidermen are keen not to push him too hard.

All-rounder Peter Trego faces a fitness test on Friday morning to determine if he has recovered from a side strain.

Captain Justin Langer, Ian Blackwell, Ben Phillips, Steffan Jones, Alfonso Thomas and Marcus Trescothick return to a 12-man squad after being rested for last week's draw against South Africa.

"This is the sort of game we knew we would face in the first division and it's vital we rise to it if we are to bring the title to Taunton for the first time," Trescothick told the county's official website.

"Durham are genuine contenders themselves and it promises to be a match of high intensity because there is a lot at stake in a very tight table."

Onions fit

Graham Onions' return to fitness provides Durham with a selection headache.

The seam bowler has recovered from a bruised bone in his heel and is named in a squad that also includes Steve Harmison, Callum Thorp, Paul Wiseman and Liam Plunkett.

Durham will be without a recognised overseas player due to the departure of South African Albie Morkel, with his replacement Shivnarine Chanderpaul having not yet arrived in the country.

Paul Collingwood is away on England duty and his place in the batting order will be taken by either Kyle Coetzer or Mark Stoneman.
