New skipper Rikki Clarke will lead Derbyshire for the first time in the LV County Championship in the season-opener against Gloucestershire.
Clarke is one of four players likely to make his Derbyshire debut on Wednesday, the others being John Sadler, Dominic Telo and Nayan Doshi.
Sadler joined from Leicestershire in the close season, South African Telo arrived as a Kolpak signing, while former Surrey left-armer Doshi was another to sign on at the County Ground.
Derbyshire will be without the services of left-arm seamer Kevin Dean who is laid low with a knee complaint, but there will be high hopes of Australian Test batsman Chris Rogers who returns to the county this season following a first spell in 2004.
Fiery paceman Steve Kirby has recovered from concussion to take his place in the Gloucestershire squad for the visit of Derbyshire.
The opening bowler will be assessed on Wednesday morning after he took a blow to the head from a Luke Wright delivery on Friday, while playing for MCC against Sussex in the domestic season curtain raiser at Lord's.
If Kirby is deemed unfit, 24-year-old medium-pacer William Rudge is likely to replace him in the home side's attack.
