Colly calls for response

Collingwood: staying upbeat

As soon as he makes that big innings, the old flamboyant KP will be back - because he's certainly not far away.

Paul Collingwood is confident England will get straight back to winning ways in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

South Africa claimed a 112-run victory in the third one-day international at Newlands on Friday to level the five-match series at 1-1.

Both sides have little opportunity to dwell on events in Cape Town and Collingwood is glad for an immediate opportunity to bounce back.

"It was 6.30 this morning (Saturday) - and it felt as though we'd just come off the cricket pitch," the Durham all-rounder said of the team's departure from their Cape Town hotel.

"But that's the way it is, and we're straight back into a game tomorrow.

"It is a quick turnaround. But in many ways that's a good thing - obviously because of the result last night."

Expectation

Collingwood is the in-form member of England's batting line-up having followed his match-winning 105 not out at Centurion in the second game with a defiant 86 in a losing cause at Newlands.

He also had words of encouragement for Kevin Pietersen, who he believes is close to finding his best form following his return from Achilles surgery.

"I wouldn't start putting him under any kind of pressure," said Collingwood.

"If you think of the lay-off he's had I don't think you'd expect him to come in and score hundreds straight away.

"It's fair to say that there are some of the shots he's playing, with the old Kevin Pietersen there.

"It's not going to be too long before he's making a massive contribution, just like he used to.

"He's not going to hit his straps 100 percent straight away. But he's certainly showing signs that he's got a big innings round the corner.

"As soon as he makes that big innings, the old flamboyant KP will be back - because he's certainly not far away."

Injuries

Collingwood is one of a clutch of England's squad struggling with minor injuries.

But he reports his back trouble is not hindering him too much - and the various ailments of James Anderson (knee), Graeme Swann (side) and Stuart Broad (shoulder) are unlikely to prevent them featuring at St George's Park.

"It's settling down," he said of his own discomfort. I think I've just got to control it as much as possible.

"Touch wood, everything feels fine at the moment - and I hope we can get another win."

South Africa's one concern is fast bowler Dale Steyn, who suffered a hamstring strain and did not complete his full allocation at Newlands.

Charl Langeveldt is the likely replacement if Steyn is ruled out.
