Sri Lanka have lost Nuwan Kulasekara for the remainder of their five-match ODI series against India after the seam bowler suffered a groin injury during Saturday's first match in Hambantota.

Kulasekara completed only half of his 10-over complement following an awkward fall in the 11th over of the day. Running in from mid-off and diving in an attempt to catch a mistimed stroke from Virender Sehwag, Kulasekara's effort proved in vain and also removed him from the attack for the remainder of the innings.

He later batted at 11 in the order, managing a single run before Sri Lanka succumbed to an insufficient 293-9 in reply to India's 314-6.

"Nuwan is out of the series. He has got a groin injury. We cannot get a scan here in Hambantota. Once we get back to Colombo, we will get a scan done and see the extent of the injury and how long he will have to be out," said captain Mahela Jayawardene.

A replacement for the right-armer is yet to be named. Jayawardene insisted the team will consider their options, which include Kanishka Alvitigala and Nuwan Pradeep - both were on the recent A tour of Zimbabwe.

"We will talk to the selectors. The A team guys probably would have arrived in Sri Lanka after the Zimbabwe tri-series. There was a selector on that tour, so we will get some advice from him as to who was in good form and try and come up with a replacement" he added.

The second ODI gets underway at the same venue on Tuesday.
