Skipper Dwayne Bravo expressed his delight after the West Indies beat Australia in a rain-reduced Twenty20 in Barbados on Friday.

The seven-wicket win came thanks to an explosive innings from Xavier Marshall, who scored 36 off 15 balls, including three sixes, while Bravo himself chipped in with 28.

These knocks helped the West Indies reach their target in just 9.1 overs after Australia had earlier scored 97-3 from 11 overs.

Speaking afterwards, West Indies captain Bravo hailed the tremendous effort put in by his side.

Give credit

He said: "It's nice to come out on top. I must give credit to everyone - the guys played tremendous from the start.

"We knew we'd be on and off the field and it was nice to know we gained our focus quickly, came out, bowled first and restricted them to a total that we knew our batsmen could get.

"Marshall and William Perkins got off to a very good start and the support from on and off the field was tremendous."

Bravo is now looking to the start of the one-day series on Tuesday, which will see the return of regular captain Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Exciting

He added: "It's going to be exciting. Do not forget that we are playing against the number one team in the world, but from the next game we're going to be at full strength."

Australia captain Ricky Ponting was not too disheartened by the rain-affected defeat and hopes for a better result in the first ODI.

"The guys at the top of the order looked good," he said. "(Luke) Ronchi and (Shaun) Marsh got us off to a good start, so no complaints there. They're two very talented young guys.

"Hopefully we get the one-day series off to a better start."
