Indian Premier League
Punjab Cricket Assocn. Stadium, Mohali
An unbeaten half-century from Gautam Gambhir helped steer Kolkata Knight Riders to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab in Mohali.
Gambhir's composed 66 not out ensured the Knight Riders easily surpassed their target having restricted Kings XI to just 124-7 from their 20 overs.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the home side were given a perfect platform by Australian veteran Adam Gilchrist, who blazed 28 before leaving the field in the sixth over for treatment on an injury.
Shaun Marsh kept the scoreboard ticking over, albeit at no great rate, but compatriot Brett Lee (2-26) ended his stay when inducing an edge through to wicketkeeper Manvinder Bisla.
Off-spinner Sunil Narine (2-24) also picked up two wickets and only some late impetus from the returning Gilchrist (40 not out) lifted Kings XI up to a competitive total.
But Gambhir showed the way to play in reply, caressing seven boundaries and launching Harmeet Singh for a six to finish up unbeaten.
South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis (30 not out) then finished the match in style with a four and six in just the 16th over, putting an end to a one-sided Indian Premier League contest.
