Brendon McCullum smashed 74 to put the Kiwis en route to a convincing victory

New Zealand turned the tables on England in the second Twenty20 International as Brendon McCullum inspired them to a crushing 55-run victory in Hamilton.

After batting first and hitting a record score to win the first match, Stuart Broad won the toss but chose to field first this time around, but he could only watch as McCullum's late burst fired New Zealand to a challenging 192-6.

The home skipper produced a sparkling knock of 74, including three sixes in the penultimate over off England counterpart Broad, which went for 22 in total; the seamer conceded 53 runs from his four overs.

England never got going in response with Jos Buttler's entertaining 54 from 30 balls coming with the game already way out of reach for England. They were bowled out for 137 as James Franklin took four wickets for the hosts.

With almost ten an over needed from the very start England needed to get off to a quick start, but they got exactly the opposite when two quick wickets had them in trouble after just two overs.

Mitchell McClenaghan did the damage by removing Alex Hales and Luke Wright in consecutive deliveries, a touch of movement under the lights meaning the top order found it tough going.

Jonny Bairstow gloved a short ball from Ian Butler and looped up a simple catch for McClenaghan and England slumped to 24-3 in the fifth over - bringing Eoin Morgan to the crease with a huge job on his hands to rescue his side.

Inspired spell

Morgan was dropped on 11, but soon after Michael Lumb had departed for a scratchy 17, Morgan followed him for just 13 when he became Butler's second wicket of an inspired spell that saw him return figures of 2-9 from four overs.

England's Buttler impressed too, hit a sparkling half-century as he and James Tredwell added 22 in the closing overs.

However, by then New Zealand already knew they were on course to make it 1-1, meaning a winner-takes-all showdown in the third and final T20 in Wellington on Friday, live on Sky Sports.Earlier, McCullum's 74 came from just 38 balls and included six fours and five sixes. His late surge saw the Black Caps just get away from England after consistent wickets had kept the home side in check.

New Zealand's opening duo made a solid start by putting on 75 for the first wicket until Hamish Rutherford was caught behind off Wright for a good knock of 40 from just 27 deliveries.

Fellow opener Martin Guptill also played well in his 31-ball 47 before he became the first of three wickets for Jade Dernbach, and with his wicket the New Zealand innings started to struggle.

McCullum saw several team-mates come and go but with still plenty of wickets in hand he launched an onslaught late on, with 38 runs added in the final two overs.
