Sri Lanka v New Zealand Twenty20 2012
Pallekele International Cricket Stadium
New Zealand were rescued by the weather after posting just 74-7 in their one-off Twenty20 international with Sri Lanka in Pallekele.
In a match reduced to 14 over per-side due to rain, the Black Caps lost the toss and struggled to cope in helpful bowling conditions, forcing them to claw their way to a below-par total.
Sri Lanka seamers Thisara Perera and Nuwan Kulasekara and teenage spinner Akila Dananjaya shared six wickets and only a top-scoring cameo of 21 from Tim Southee added some respectability to the final score.
But Sri Lanka's hopes of chasing down the meagre total were ruined by the weather, which returned with the hosts poised on 6-0 after two overs of their reply.
Bowling all-rounder Southee was one of only three New Zealand batsmen to post double figures after Ross Taylor's men started their tour of Sri Lanka in abysmal fashion.
The Black Caps' top five of Rob Nicol (1), Tom Latham (4), Brendon McCullum (1), Taylor (4) and James Franklin (2) mustered only 12 runs between them as the tourists crashed to 28-6 batting first.
New ball bowler Kulasekara (2-13) did the damage up top for Sri Lanka before Perera (2-22) and Dananjaya (2-9) ran through the middle and lower order.
Southee hit four boundaries in an over off seamer Shaminda Eranga before Sri Lanka's run-chase was abruptly cut short.
