Sri Lanka v New Zealand Test Series 2012
Galle International Stadium
Rangana Herath finished with match figures of 11-108 as Sri Lanka earned a 10-wicket victory over New Zealand in the opening Test at Galle inside three days.
New Zealand collapsed from 35-1 in their second innings at the start of day three to 118 all out, left-arm spinner Herath claiming 6-43 to go with his 5-65 in the first innings.
That left Sri Lanka a target of 93 and openers Tharanga Paranavitana and Dimuth Karunaratne knocked them off in 18.3 overs to finish the match before tea.
Daniel Flynn's 20 was the top score in New Zealand's second innings, which lasted 44.1 overs in total.
Seam bowler Nuwan Kulasekara (2-28) removed Martin Guptill (13) and Kane Williamson (10) in the first seven overs of the day.
Sri Lanka's spinners then took centre stage; Herath's haul included the middle-order engine room of Ross Taylor (18), James Franklin (2) and Flynn, while Suraj Randiv polished off the tail for figures of 2-37.
It is the second time Herath has taken 10 wickets or more in a Test, the other occasion was when he bagged 12 on the same ground against England earlier in the year.
Karunaratne, making his debut and having made a three-ball duck in the first innings, powered Sri Lanka over the winning line before tea with nine fours in his run-a-ball 60, ending the game with two boundaries in quick succession off Doug Bracewell. His opening partner Paranivitana played a supporting hand to finish on 31 not out.
